Excellent content! I worked for an Atty with an LLM through law school, but that’s been 5+ years ago. Meanwhile, this year I inherited some money, to which I have started a small online business, all while trading cryptocurrency. I’m speechless! This is EXACTLY what I needed to re-channel a taxable mindset. None of those sources of income are taxable unless you are 1 of 3 classes of person those being non-resident aliens making U.S. source income , foreign corporations making U.S. Source income or u.s. citizens working outside the United States making foreign-source income if you are interested in learning the truth about the income tax read the book income tax shattering the myths , no one needs to fill out W-9 unless they are classified as a US person in control of a foreigners U.S. Source income then they are required to fill out a W-9 and collect the tax before giving that foreigners money to The Foreigner

As someone who's just started doing taxes on my crypto holdings (going ten years back and including thousands of trades) I've found myself desperate for guidance and good advice for minimizing CGT. I've used aggressive loss harvesting, to seemingly great effect (according to various online tax calculators), and yet you are the first qualified KZbinr I've heard talk about it. Regardless I will likely be facing a significant tax burden as a result of not educating myself on these things sooner; my high-priced CPA firm seems all but clueless when it comes to cryptocurrency. I think your examples and explanations are absolutely great! I really just want to say THANK YOU for helping me to understand all the things I wish I'd known sooner! You've earned my subscription and don't be surprised if you see me asking you questions directly in the near future.

To my overstanding, as for crypto mining, if it's decentralized crypto, like Bitcoin, can't be taxed until you cash it out, because it's not in there jurisdiction to tax... They can only tax the portion that intertwines with a state currency...

If I have an S-Corp for my Real Estate business and a separate LLC for my rental car (Turo) business, should I be running the income from the Turo business through the S-Corp or make deposits directly into the rental car LLC? Does it matter? I want to save as much $$ from taxes as possible. In RE I take a w-2 of $72k a year (more than 50% after business expenses) and rental car makes about $25k a year.

If you refinance it into a conventional mortgage, no. You can go ahead and buy that other house and live in it. You will not be committing mortgage fraud.

When you take a W2 salary + a draw from your s-corp, how do you determine the ratio allocated to each? And are there any drawbacks of minimizing your salary to reduce the tax burden?

One drawback of salary minimization is that you cannot contribute as much to tax-advantaged retirement accounts with a lower W-2 salary. (My understanding is that it still makes sense in most cases despite this).

Clarification/Question. Say you have a W-2 (full time gig) with say $160K net after 401K and medical deductions. You also have a LLC for side gigs making say, $50K to align with your example. Isn't FICA limited (in 2023) at $160K, which means, you "only" pay 2.9% Medicare against the $50K? In this case, is it still advantageous to do a S-Corp given the overhead of payroll and other things? I estimate approx. $2K or less for these services. Looks like a toss. May still be worth it, specially if the side gigs grow, but wanted to check with you (if anyone still reads these comments on a 2 yo vid).
