Passive Solar Windows

Later in the summer and we are getting back to working on the windows, this time we are installing the passive solar windows on the south side.
These windows have a special low e coating that lets in the wave lengths that carry heat into your home (and fade your furniture), but then trap the lower wavelengths that try to escape again.
The bit about the extra blocking above the windows was that we had built those bucks following an earlier copy of the plans before Pella changed their transom sizes... We had correct plans available, but I had accidentally used an old copy and made the bucks 3 inches too tall. Oh well... Live and learn.

The only stucco we didn't do ourselves was the stucco on the front of the garage. Guess which stucco is the only stucco that has cracked? The pro's put the garage stucco up in record time (all three layers in two days), so of course it cracked. We are so slow that we gave the stucco layers lots and lots of time to settle in before adding the next layer ;)

Yea, I thought I did, but watch the previous video on installing the other windows. Pella talked a good game about how one of their professionals was going to come out and inspect the delivery and would give us tips on installation. No one ever showed up. About a dozen of the windows came with various damage, including one where the crank mechanism was broken. Pella ignored all my calls and emails. I never heard another word from them after the day they go my money. Other than that, it was great ;)
