This IS 100% "embarrassing". It really highlights how bad some of our public services have devolved into despite being the country that has the "most advanced" technology. Same exact situation here was supposed to travel today but now I'm in limbo: 4 hours/daily on hold & being told the only available in-person appointments are half way across the country in less than 5 days away if there are any appointments that open up at all).

My experience was the opposite. I did expedite mine. Timeline below: Applied date: April 8th. Application received date: April 14th. Approved: May 10th. Shipped: May 11th Received (in hand): May 15th Edit: I received my evidence back. Sometime in middle of June.

They do not pick up the phone, put you on never ending hold and then calls are disconnected after 50-60 minutes hold. Worst public service to date .

This is inexcusable. There should be a law that when the government fails to deliver a simple service for a modest fee, like producing a passport, the victim should get the compensation of not having to pay taxes for that year. That would get those slackers to stop screwing around.

Passports are good for 10 years. You CAN get a passport in same day in many major cities but you have to pay through the nose for the service.

Plain and simple. POOR MANAGEMENT Can you please interview the CEOs of these agencies who receives $13Million for Christmas bonuses and do nothing but firing people in the forth quarter. Right before Christmas too. This is unacceptable. All these airline cutting flights for the summer. Cancelation and collisions are bad enough. Sleeping on the floor in an airport is horrible.

I expedited my passport in March and it's been 10 weeks in June now, and it is still "In Process"?! A congressional inquiry was sent to the agency last week but still no luck. I am gonna miss my trip for sure. Unbelievable 😭

After calling 10+ times and waiting on the phone for over an hour I was told that there are absolutely no appointments available for the upcoming several weeks. They couldn't do anything helping me. So I did all that for nothing --- How proud to be American... 😩

Obviously emergencies or the need to take an unexpected trip abroad happens, but people really need to be more proactive about this if they think there’s ever a chance they will travel internationally. I renewed my passport while the pandemic was still going strong and it didn’t take more than 6 weeks, even without expediting. This is an important document just to own even if you’re not planning to leave the country.

Yeah but 10 year's can click away pretty easy. My problem was possible denial of entry in England, France, or Germany because traveling month of June and my passport expires in October. I got mine updated and it took exactly 60 day's from application to receiving it back without expediting. Application sent in March and back to me in May.

@@josephcathey1258 you're silly. Maybe on purpose but I surmise it's not. You can get a passport same day in many Passport Offices around the Country. All you have to do is have the correct documentation, stand in line, and pay the fees. That's never changed. To mail your application and copies of your documents and get your passport back in the mail before the pandemic was 4-6 weeks however if there were mistakes on application or the documents you submitted were incomplete your application wouldn't proceed until those errors were corrected. During the Pandemic many Citizens didn't apply for new passport because they weren't planning or making trips so delivery of new or updated passports went to 2-4 weeks processing times. When travel became available again those same people who made the Passport Office more efficient by delaying their application submissions made the Office's more inefficient by clogging up the line. Most reporting on long delays is caused by inaccurate applications and failures to supply correct documentation. But yes, because of the number of applications in the system at this time processing time is 8-10 weeks but eventually it'll go back to 4-6 weeks because that's how the system is staffed and designed to work.

When we applied for a passport renewal, they quoted us 8-11 weeks which gave us 4 weeks of cushion. But now we are almost on 13 weeks now. You can't properly prepare if the data they are giving us is crap like it obviously was. We would have mailed it in earlier or expedited it if we would have had real estimates.

@@therolando608 I submitted my application for renewal at my local passport on 3/27/2023 and got it delivered to my mailbox on 5/26/2023 without any expediting charges. My original Passport would have expired 10/23/23. None of my information had changed like name & address so I assume my renewal went through the quickest route of their verification process. Also I turned in my valid Passport with my application and documents so I surmise this withdrew any research of resent use and the decommission of that US owned document that would have added time to issuance of my new passport. I'm sorry you're going through uncertainty and delay and I certainly agree that following all requirements properly your delay is unwarranted. Good Luck.

I booked the appointment at the USPS the day I delivered my newborn son at the hospital, and took him in person appointment at a local USPS 3 wks later, and his application was received in January 2023. Now it's almost 6 months later, we are still waiting for his passport.

I'm going to England from US June 8th 2023. When I realized my passport would expire November 2023 I was concerned about not being admitted to England, France, or Germany I'm visiting because evidently some Countries won't admit entry within 6 months of Passport expiration. When I went to my local Post Office for my appointment on March 27th she said it'd be close and she'd put my application in the mail that day. She said if she sent it the Louisiana office it most likely wouldn't get to me in time but the Utah center was showing 8 weeks processing time and suggested it be back in 9 weeks or less so I didn't get Express Service. It got here today exactly 60 days. So 2 day's in transit each there and back was 8 weeks. I surmise some Passport Offices are more swamped than others. Unfortunately, I have the old passport information on my Visas so I'm going to try and get updated.

I work for the National Passport Information Center. Please customers APPLY FOR A PASSPORT at least 6 months to A YEAR OR MORE BEFORE your planned date of international travel. There’s only 26 Passport Agencies in the entire US (and they’re not in every state) Which means there’s a very limited amount of appointments available at each passport agency (probably like between 100-400 appointments available each day/per agency). It’s very irritating when customers call us upset because they have international travel in less than 14 days and call us to book an appointment and there’s no appointments available.🙄 It’s not our fault you didn’t plan ahead and waited until last minute to get a passport. We are aware that there are certain situations that come up like a Life or Death emergency where you didn’t plan to travel internationally but your immediate family member abroad has a life or death emergency that requires you to travel abroad or some other urgent travel but still. I’m just saying this to save you guys some headaches. You would save a lot of money if you just planned ahead. 😊

I think part of the problem is we have submitted our application MONTHS in advance being told it was 8-11 weeks. Then halfway through the process it gets extended to 10-13 weeks. Then you can't talk with anyone until 2 weeks before your travel date. At that point they take your credit card info and says for $80 they will guarantee delivery. They never charged me and then after being on hold for 3 hours says it's only if the agency accepts. So no passport and missed flight.

I guess you have to know that you better apply 6 months or more ahead of your trip. I is not fun worrying if your passport will make it in time for you go on your trip. If you miss your trip a lot of time you can’t get reimbursed or credits going forward.

Many major cities have same day service Passport offices. The most efficient are Dallas and Washington DC.

Glad I saw this clip. I gotta renew in 2025. Kinda surprised that people want to travel abroad. Price of a ticket is like double what it was. I paid 850, non stop, pre-pandemic. I'm paying 2K, nonstop, one month ago. Behavior TO your international destination is always pretty upbeat. You know? FROM the US, everyone has a chance to find and embrace a new destination. Reality is, that when you return home, most people are in a horrible place and most don't even know it. It's like night n day. If you want to save and go one stop, do it on your way there. You don't want to get stuck, with awful behavior coming off of people, like their deodorant. Watch out if you get to your airport at night. If you had the best trip of your life, you have to be doubly aware. I would imagine like 1/2 the people, who need passports to travel abroad or something, should stay domestic. Don't stink up a flight.
