The negative remarks about Betsy and her spontaneous joyful nature, the instinct to help (pointing out sea to be like ocean) reflect more on the commenter than the lady herself. Ive only seen her in these old game shows and she conducts herself beautifully, extending kindness and friendliness to those she encounters. This particular episode she was chatty, but I think that was her southern coming out exposed as she was to the extreme southernerness of the guest. She was also protective - all these people not understanding the lady and being a bit rude about - she came to her aid.

Betsy Palmer was such an adorable chatterhead, just spouting whatever came into her mind. When she got together with the lady from the South, Ludden completely lost control of the game. Watching the frustration build on his face was hilarious.

@@popcorn5130 - agree with you totally. Not really a fan of her based purely on how she simply refuses to play the game anywhere near properly. If I was a competing contestant with one chance in a lifetime to play and win the game, I would try to mobilize other contestants who lost as a result of her blatant and repetitive cheating and file a complaint with the network and the show's producer. Her behavior is not "cute" it is outrageous and egregious.
@popcorn5130

@@waldolydecker8118 I only considered it from a viewer's perspective, not a contestant's perspective. You're right, that could ruin the fun and competitiveness of the game for a contestant. I only knew a little of Betsy from "Friday the 13th" and watching some footage from subsequent interviews and conventions. She seemed so arrogant and pretentious,... and watching these older shows with her supports those opinions. (To be fair, I think she did a great job in her small role in "Friday the 13th" and assume she may have been a great actress otherwise, but that just may be where her arrogance came from.)

It's funny what Betsy Palmer said at approximately 15:20… Because looking back to my childhood which would be only maybe 3 or 4 years after this, the Lone Ranger was very big on television. Of course, the reason Palmer said that is because it used to be broadcast, before THAT time, on radio!

I love this show, and Ludden, but it's amazing how lax he is with time and the "rules". And to comment "good!" after someone gives a clue is just unfair. Again and again he warns players not to gesture when they give a clue, yet I've never seen anyone be penalized for it.

Is it normal that when I watch this particular episode, there are times I want to reach through the screen and smack the contestants for being so thick? Honestly, how can you NOT get "Ranger" out of the clues "Forest" and then "Lone?" Then again, they were in front of a live audience at the time with the bright lights on them, so that adds some pressure but still..Yikes!

Not a good episode. Another one of Allen Ludden's spasmodic, insulting attacks against people (usually women) with southern accents, yet he supposedly went to college in Texas. The showbiz guests may have been "photogenic" but not very bright. Password "Ranger" , Forest, ( good ), Lone (good) and then things went stooooopid. Finally someone said "Tonto". Other clues could have been: "Silver" [ his horse ] or "Kemosabe" or "Army".
