world book encyclopedia Those were the days. My family had a set

My mom sold them for a few years, so I got a free set. Over the next years I read every volume, cover to cover. I still have the set, but haven't opened them in decades.

I wonder how many square miles of landfill space all those sets of 1963 encyclopedias take up.

Although even today most 14-year-olds probably wouldn't get it but for "Bonnet" I personally was thinking "Automobile… Hood… British" :-)

No offense, but isn't it a given the 20/20 hindsight that we experience in the calm of our living rooms is much different from how we'd perform within the PRESSURE of live competition & in front of a live audience (& while being filmed)? And, yes, "bonnet" is a tough one, but I will wager my two cents that a 14 year-old American boy wouldn't get any closer to it through British vernacular...even with 3 separate, clever clues....

On the whole, Hackett played a sharp game. Reminder to self: Don't judge a person by his movie roles-or facial hair.

I've been binging on these episodes for the past two days now and have seen the word sheikh three times in six games. PS that last lightning round was painful to watch 😮

God i hate the format where they change guests during the show. I mean... i kinda get why they chose to do it, changing guests frequently gives them a bit of insurance if both guests are trash or one guest is significantly more skilled than the other without having to insult anyone, (i mean no one wants to watch two dunces struggle to 1 or 0 point words for 30-minutes, or watch someone absolutely trounce the other and lack any drama) but maaaaaaaan... it sucks so hard when the two first guests are good and evenly matched and then they're just gone after 2-minutes.

Wish they had been able to play 2 rounds instead of 1 so that each contestant could play 1 game w/ each star.

The show was better when the contestants were allowed to change seats and play with both celebrities. The format in this episode seemed too rushed. 21:00 Did he think the word was ALMONDS?

I agree--and I liked it even better when the third game paired the celebrities with each other and the civilians with themselves.

For "String" I might've either concentrated on "Twine" and simply rapid-fire repeated saying "another"... until he got it and/or included the word "Kite."

Buddy was suffering a serious depression here. But still he bravely made quite decent jokes. He had a problem.

I always thought there was something up with Buddy, maybe something of a mental health problem, and he's a bit awkward, I wonder if he was perhaps undiagnosed Autistic as well.

In an episode where Nanette Fabray was his opponent, Allen asked him if he wanted to announce something. And he asked people to donate to Mental Health Charities. I never knew he was affected by it. Thanks for the information. 🦜 Blessings from California. 🦋

Did anyone else see Allen look for ages towards the entrance where the contestants come on, before he introduced the young military guy? I think he found him interesting.... I know he was married to Betty White but I've always thought he may have gay tendencies, nothing wrong in that, just notice sometimes the way he is with certain guys.
