I've been using corning ware (with cover) in the microwave to steam whole potatoes, simmer rice, pasta, vegs. in microwave. Wanted something lighter weight. This container has two marvelous features. 1. Clever design of a double hull with space between the inner and outer hull which results in being able to touch the container even when the contents are boiling hot. Amazing! I can remove the container from the microwave without protective gloves. 2. Clever silicone lid has a upper deep lip and prevents overflow of water/steam onto microwave. If water or steam bubbles up to the top the water/steam comes thru the holes and inside the lip and can then drip back into the pot. I did add salt to the water (no oil) when I first put the dry pasta and boiling water into the container. The water and steam do not drip outside the container. NO messy overflows in the microwave. Wow! Spinach I cooked on high 2 min. Mushrooms on high 2 min. Whole large rinsed/washed potatoes 4 min high. Your microwave may be different than mine. Recommend.
