I'm stuck in bed with a cold, can't paint and started missing pastels, I immediately went over to your channel and rewatched some of your videos, the process of you painting is just so enjoyable to watch! You mentioned before you had some bad experience here on KZbin and I simply can't believe how :/ I would love to watch the processes of any of the new paintings you are posting on Instagram, they have the prettiest color combinations I have ever seen, not to mention the textures of the grasses and trees right on the perfect spots, sometimes I think you are an art genius! :D

Your techniques are outstanding, did you learn them by experimenting or have any education in arts? I also love your choice of colors and not blending them too much, the colors really shine through upper layers this way :)

HI Larisa! Thank you! I didn't go to art school and instead have a theatre arts background. I've always loved painting, drawing, and coloring on my own though! I appreciate you watching! I looked at your channel, too. You are very talented as well! :) Keep up the beautiful painting!

Hi Bethany. Lovely piece. Are those lupines? If you're going to have a picnic there, watch out for ants ;-). I read your blog on this piece on how you used rubbing alcohol. Was it 91% or 70%? I suppose it doesn't matter much except the 70% would take longer to dry. Thanks for sharing.
@BethanyFields7 жыл бұрын
haha! So true! :) I use the 91%...it dries almost instantly (especially here in my dry county in Texas!)
@tammycox39537 жыл бұрын
Bethany,,,,this is awesome! I think I see that you occasionally go back in and use alcohol and brush to "bring back" or deepen your tree trunks? Is that what I'm seeing? Keeps the light greens clean that go on top?
@BethanyFields7 жыл бұрын
Yes, I like to reiterate the shapes with alcohol sometimes...it does bring back tooth to reapply the alcohol as well. These videos are often very spur of the moment paintings and what you see is me thinking through problems or changing my mind about composition. Sometimes, people complain that I do this too much! But every artist that is in a daily practice knows that there are often major shifts of thinking during the process. The alcohol helps me regain tooth when I'm altering something. :) Thanks and 'Hi!" :)

Bethany Fields It’s weird for people to complain about your individual working style... like saying they’re tired of you wearing shoes everyday. Anyhow, yes, very few paintings of mine have not gone through major edits during the process. Sometimes I make a change to the light. Sometimes I’ve just remembered a technique/color I wanted to try. Sometimes I’ve had to leave the painting for a bit longer than I wanted to and my feelings about it have changed - not from “good” to “bad”, but perhaps more passionate about “this” part rather than “that” part. I am a bit 😳 ADD. I guess that might have something to do with it.... I loved every bit of your style, process, and the finished piece.

Hi Bethany, this painting is lovely. Thanks for posting it. Please excuse my curiosity but I have a couple of questions (sorry). When you used the surgical spirits, do you add pigment or brush it on neat? Did you use a particular brush type? What did you use for the dark tree trunks (I'm thinking acrylic ink??) Also, what kind of pencils do you use? Thanks so much. John :)
@BethanyFields7 жыл бұрын
Hi John! Thank you for watching! I use the spirits "neat" and with a clean brush. (no particular type). Alcohol can be hard on brushes so don't use your expensive oil ones! I did use acrylic ink and sometimes I like to use hard nupastels. I like the Carbothello brand of pastel pencils but also have used others. This is just the set I have at the moment. :) Thank you!!

What did you use with the ink to get that texture

I used a piece of cloth to apply the ink. :)
