Wow! Just found you, and subscribed! This is exactly what I was looking for. I love your sky and clouds. Your clouds kept “moving”, which is a sign to me it’s right. Thank you!

Nice work Dave as always ..As a pastel artist myself ( mainly portraits ) I was curious and would like to ask have you ever come across panpastels ? if you have ..have you tried them ? and if so .. what is your opinion of them ? I use them for backgrounds and like this wonderful work of yours here for skies when i try landscapes .. They have excellent lightfastness and blend really well ..would like to hear your thoughts... thanks Ian .

Yes I have Ian, I have been considering buying just the basic colours I use and mix them for the underdrawing, but I feel it is another cost for my student to buy them. I want to keep thing straight forward. Saying that I will at some stage have a play with some just to see. Thanks for your feedback with using them, appreciated. 🙏

Great video Dave, thank you for sharing. I think for me, the process would be much quicker with pan pastels (with a pencil/stick finish) as they give more pigment and softness than any other pastel type

Hi Kyomii, thank you. Good suggestion, I must give pan pastels a go... I do love what can be achieved with just using pastel pencils, the subtleties applying layer after layer seems to bring things to live. I have in the past loaded the paper with pastel stick pigment but this lead to losing the subtleties I love. 😊🙏

@@DavePortersArt Hi Dave, Pan pastels are so finely ground that they don’t fill the tooth at the same pace as sticks. You do need to ensure enough is on for blending and sofft tools are recommended for application, specifically the large sponges and the 4 smaller tools. They are a dream to work with once you get the hang of them and cut down time in half imho. I use them for underpainting all the time.

@@Kyomiibrown Will give them a go... been meaning to for a while now. Thanks for the heads up. ☺🙏

@@DavePortersArt It Would be a pleasure to watch your progress with them, God willing. If you like them and you are located in the UK, I can perhaps arrange to send you some of mine until I can’t use them anymore as my time is limited due to 4th stage cancer. I would sooner they go to a good home where they will be used than to be left gathering dust or binned.
