I'm a fairly experienced oil painter, but I found myself lost in the woods on the skin coloring and shading when painting my grandchildren who are 18 months and 4 years old with extremely light skin. Watching this video completely turned me around and got me where I needed to be. The subtleties of these young very light children's skin had me going in circle some until I watched this. Thanks very very much

@DavePortersArt15 күн бұрын
Thanks Sam, thrilled you are learning from the videos. I don't fix my work as it dull the chroma and subtleties... that is one of the benefits of having Pastelmat has the surface to work on... the pigment clings to it. 😊🙏

Which pastel pencil is best for realistic human portrait? Are kohinoor gioconda pastel pencil, creatacolor pastel pencil, derwent are best? I asking these 3 because i feel these 3 products are less expensive compared to other products, your answer is going to make me purchase one from these 3, Thankyou in advance
@DavePortersArt17 күн бұрын
I have not tried those brands so cant really give any advice. I would consider buying the CarbOthello pencil and a single white Faber Castell pastel pencil, you could get away with just using these. Be care with the lightfastness of the colours, of what ever brand you buy, as you don't want your work to fade. 🙏😊

I LOVE your tutorials. You're truly a master. I was wondering if you have any tips on slowing down and also adding details to art. I love to draw, but I am very impatient and go way too fast, leaving out details and pressing too hard on the medium etc. I also forgot to add that my drawing is way too rigid/tight. I don't know how to draw more loosely.
@DavePortersArt17 күн бұрын
Hi David, Thanks for loving my tutorials... means a lot. You have to train patience, I would suggest taking breaks as soon as you feel impatient. Let go of control, to be relaxed is to let go of the mind, dont fight it just turn away from thoughts. The mind loves attention, so just turn away and just focus on the heart. Search for videos by Mooji, ( www.youtube.com/@Moojiji ) his teaching is all about letting go... it will help. Drawing in a tight manner could be the need for perfection, maybe wanting it too much to be spot on. You will find that the details just happen after a while. I just observe and keep out of the way. All the very best. Dave 😊🙏
@davidsmock823517 күн бұрын
@@DavePortersArt Thank you! This is excellent advice and information. I had never thought about drawing in a tight manner being about wanting it to be too spot on. But that perfectly makes sense with my personality. I'm my worst critic and a perfectionist. lol I see every little flaw in my art.
