Your words and instruction concerning relaxing in the process and not being too concerned at details during the initial process really hit home for me. I am so full of stress and anxiety when I’m trying to create a painting as I am always so overly concerned with the details during early stages that I may be less creative than I want or should be. Your advice on this is so valuable so that I can be patient. BTW, my mother, grandmother, and great grandmother all had red hair unlike me whose hair is very dark brown (well, mostly gray now) though my dna is 85 percent Irish and English. I will be watching more of your videos, as your advice is pure gold for someone like me, who has so much anxiety with painting even though I love it so much. Thank you for sharing your talent!

Hi Brenda, thrilled you are finding my method helpful. I have always been interested in how the mind works... how it can control us by thinking too much of memories and expectations, which is one of the causes of anxiety. I realized being in the moment is such a joy... a joy of just letting go of control and just be happen to be. To be here and now. Ginger hair is a challenge to draw, I found using green to desaturate the colour values really does the trick. All the very best with your artwork. You are welcome, thank you for watching. 🙏😊

You can do it! Don't beat yourself up. Art is not a talent. It is a skill. It takes practice. Same with welding. I beat that first bead you laid down was not great. Maybe burned through or not sufficient penetration. I'm a weld technician. I work on mig and spot robots all day long. I still love coming home and doing a bit of art. I'm not great. And we don't have to be. It's just something fun. 😁

Thank you so much for the kind words Angel. Hi there, thanks for the kind words. I too for many years spread my time very thinly. I love so many different activities. My suggestion would be to create a sacred time for yourself everyday even if it is just 20 minute or so. Turn off your phone, explain to your friends and family I won't be available at that certain time you give to art. Life will make it happen if it is meant to be. Relax and be focused in your heart... all the guidance you will ever need is found there. 🥰🙏

Hi Dave, do you use oil or soft pastels in your videos? I am an oil painter and looking to move to pastels but not sure which type to use for best blend etc. I am also looking to finish off my latest painting using pastels as struggling to get the tones and details with brushes, would this work on canvas? PS Amazing content, learning so much from each video as they are presented so simply and clearly, keep up the good work mate!
@DavePortersArt Жыл бұрын
Hi Scott, I use soft chalk pastels.... not played with oil pastels for years... I have just done a bit of a search for you and apparently you can get oil based pencils i.e.: Faber-Castell Polychromos colored pencils, Caran d’Ache Luminance pencils... not too sure whether they would work on your canvas... shouldn't see why not tbh. All the best thanks for watching... great that you are getting some info from them. 🙏

Great thanks Dave, got a half set from derwent to finish my painting then will likely move to chalk like you use, much appreciated 👍
