I can't decide if I like Hayes' or Ray Wylie's version better. They are both so great, and have a completely different feel.

In another timeline I can easily picture Levon helm singing this song and playing the drums.

Levon has actually done a similar song, with The Band. Haye’s “Drunken Poet’s Dream” immediately reminded me of a line from that chorus - “A drunkard’s dream if I ever did see one.” The song is Whipple’s Creek, which also has a similar theme - although I doubt that many women want to be a drunkard’s dream, lol. Great subject matter for fantastic songs, though!

A lot of talent here. I couldn't help but think that he was, maybe, deliberately (?) off key here. But that could be part of the art for all I know.

@totallytubular12 What country-folk artist isn't to some extent a "Bob Dylan ripoff"? Clever lyrics + acoustic guitar = unoriginal? I think not; he's working within the confines of a genre. Plus, (not a dig on Bob, mind you...) Hayes' voice is tenfold more charismatic than Bob's. But, like you said, "to each his own".

Not sure just why he doesn't get someone that can stay on key to do his songs and also don't do other people's songs that you can't sing. He is awful!!
