Wonderful sax tone, with melodies underscored with interesting rhythms and especially harmony of all sorts, great, so evocative...a long way from the sausage-note machines of some contemporary stuff

This is my go to music whenever I want to hear brilliance. The soprano sax from To Hold On or to Let Go is something out of this world, I might have heard it 100 times and every time tears run to my eyes, just amazing music. Brad comping in Joshua's solo's is just out of this world, he answers him, complements him and gives him ideas to explore, such a blessing conversation. I feel blessed to be able to enjoy this. Thank you both!

Each of these gentlemen are masters of their respective instruments. As is typical, each gets a chance to do solo interludes to show their stuff, but what is amazing about this clip is how outstanding each is while playing together. On occasion, Brad keeps metronome-like time with his left thumb, while at other times he plays each hand apparently playing a different tune which just happens to mesh together extremely well by accident. Of course, there is nothing accidental about it. Redman plays the clearest sax tones that could possibly be played by an earthling.

Incredible music. I saw Mehldau and Redman live in Shanghai. Mehldau is a fantastic musician and full respect to him, however Redman absolutely blew me away with his technical mastery and confidence, his flow within the rhythm, the sheer emotion of his performance. I've personally never seen a better saxophonist perform. Even the word "seen" seems inappropriate; it's more like "experienced."
