You have made a decision in your life, stick with it and don't look back. You WILL NOT BE SORRY. Talk to a Christian pastor or friend. Many pastors have gone to school for counseling. Play this man's video again from time to time. Remove yourself from situations where you might be tempted to relapse. Even one drink is a backwards step. Don't go out with someone if you think they will be drinking. It will make it seem like it's alright for you to drink. Read your BIBLE, draw strength from that. Many counseling groups are free if you feel like you need strength. All the best and may God bless.

As a fellow preacher, I am very concerned at the manner in which this brother approaches his subject. All must be to the Scriptures, "To the Law and to the Testimony, if they speak not according to this Word, it is because there is no light in them." (Isaiah 8:20) His exegesis of Scripture is extremely poor; and the selectiveness of the Scriptures employed to put his case runs contrary to the main body of teaching on this subject in Scripture. At 0:47-0:58 our brother as a pastor extols his anti-alcohol stance. The common understanding is that this is a mark of Spiritual strength, however, Romans 14 teaches in the clearest terms (besides other things) the weak brother drinks only water, i.e. no alcohol. From 1:13-1:28 our brother highlights those who will not enter the Kingdom of Elohim, including drunkards. From there to 2:29 we are given an irrelevant list of societal consequences caused by drink...However, I believe an honest assessment of these figures would refer to drunkenness, and 'problem drinking'; it is not simply drinking which causes these maladies in society. Returning to 1 Corinthians 6:10, drunkards (Strong's 3183/4) means 'a sot' meaning, 'to drink to intoxication'. A 'sot' is 'a habitual drunkard'. (The Concise English Dictionary) At this point (through to 3:54) our brother then goes on to use the analogy of a disease. The real problem at this point is the obfuscation of alcoholism with alcohol (deliberate or not). Let me be clear: I do NOT hold that alcoholism is a disease - it is a lack of self-control in the same way as chambering, or ADHD et cetera. However, using John Kilpatrick's analogy, it is alcoholism which is the 'disease' and not the alcohol itself. I affirm this: Drunkenness is a sin, but drink is not. At 4:40-4:45 a slight misquoting of Scripture is applied to strengthen his anti-drink case. "Be not drunk with wine WHEREIN IS EXCESS..." This is not the same as denoting drink itself, or having a casual drink as being an error. Self-control is the key in this passage. If we lay aside self-control, we will be softened to engage in rebellion/debauchery. (Original Aramaic/Peshitta New Testament) Therefore, there is a very serious warning against loss of self-control; but no warning against drink itself. It is poor exegesis not to rightly divide the Word of Truth. Let me say this: I do agree with brother Kilpatrick that the Spirit of Elohiym should be our Comforter, and not the bottle! (4:45-4:49) Likewise, that the Almighty considers drunkenness a sin. (5:04) Brother John is also right at 6:00-6:08 to declare the Spiritual well-being of the flock is his concern. However, at 0:26-0:34, he makes it clear that no-one in his congregation, or following the livestream is entitled to tell him what his job is. Well, the job of a pastor is to preach the Truth as it is found in the WORD, not to take bits to suit his own conviction - our convictions must be subject to the WORD. Nonetheless, as stated earlier, I am a preacher, an elder, and preach the WORD every week. Thus, in the words of the Scriptures (1 Co 14:32), "And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets." It is the incumbent duty of all ministers of the WORD to admonish their fellow-labourers where error, or unscriptural teaching is being put forward. Therefore, I am concerned at the foregoing points as their is a lack of sound Scriptural exegesis and teaching on the issue. Brother Kilpatrick declares he has a conviction and, regrettably, it is that conviction which he wishes to prove by any means rather than seek to uphold the full teaching of Scripture on drink. However, I am gravely concerned at his turn of focus from 6:26-6:41 whereupon he turns the screw and comes close to shepherding with the threat of hell (a lost eternity) if you don't obey his (John Klpatrick's) word, "If you reject what I'm trying to tell you...if you reject it and do die and go to hell, or become an alcoholic...its going to be against everything, its going to go against everything I've tried to tell you." If you have borne with me thus far, may it please the Almighty (YAHUAH) to favour you and make His face shine upon you. I have not presented the case for the appropriate place of alcohol (wine particularly) in the believing body - that is for another post. I would have all understand my concern is NOT to denigrate brother Kilpatrick but rather to point out the inconsistencies which exist in the anti-drink rhetoric which is presented as the 'gold standard' of righteousness. Elohiym is against drunkenness and lack of self-control.

Absolutely No, alcohol has no place in the life of a Christian,The Bible says our body is the temple of the Holy Ghost .Drinking is sin.
@marshabufkin73676 ай бұрын
How does a person defile the temple of God? You can't just make things up. The Bible is very clear on this. I Corinthians 3:17 says, "If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are." To understand the mechanics of that process you look back to Mark 7:15-23 where it says that it's not what goes into a person that defiles them, but what comes out of their mouth. What is in a persons heart will eventually come out their mouth. Using your line of thought, if it is those things from outside a person that are/or could be physically harmful which enters them that defiles them, then you need to start a list of all harmful, or possibly harmful food, drink, or activities. Then you must avoid everything on your list. One example might be welding. When an arc/stick welder strikes and arc, there are 30 to 40 different gasses and chemical particles released into the air. Many of those gasses and chemical particles can be quite harmful if breathed over long periods of time. How many other foods, drinks, and activities would be on your list? Sounds like the Old Testament Law doesn't it? You know, a list of do's and don'ts. We become righteous when we see, smell, taste, hear, touch, and do only the things on the approved list and avoid all the things on the 'Oh no, you blew it' list. Honestly, I think you don't understand that the heart and soul of religion is going through the motions of the approved physical activity list, while true spirituality if first and foremost about the depth of intimacy with our heavenly Father.

Clearly drinking with the intention of altering your mind aka being drunk is absolutely a sin. Having a glass of wine with some seafood or Italian food isn’t that. Having A beer with a steak dinner isn’t setting out to get altered. So although rare, I would argue that there are many ppl and even many cultures , where it is customary to include a great glass of vino with their meal and it’s as innocent as a slice of buttered bread. Don’t seek drunkenness and I think you’ll be alright.
@deborahkaye18827 ай бұрын
One needs to read Dave Wilkerson's book 'Sipping Saints'. He discusses that during the time of Jesus there were 2 different types of wine. One was a sweet wine - nonalcoholic. The other was with alcohol. Jewish weddings during Jesus' time lasted for several days. Being God in the flesh why would He go against the Word Pastor just discussed (there are more) and turn wine into the one with alcohol? He wouldn't and that's why it was said that the 'best was saved until the last'. One needs to understand the Jewish history which Jesus was one as well as the Word to understand the meaning. Studying the Jewish Roots opens up a lot of insight into the deception perpetrated on the 'church' and others. Romans 12:21 discusses not causing one to stumble. Calling oneself a 'Christian', drinking and/or getting drunk can cause another stumble from children to adults.

I'm 70 years old. I cut my teeth on an old time Assembly of God pentecostal pew. (Back when the Assembly of God had something; how far the mighty have fallen.) I received the Holy Ghost with the initial evidence of speaking in other tongues February 3, 1970. I appreciate this Brothers true pastoral spirit. But, in the mid-1980's while attending college using my Vietnam Era education benefits, I learned about the scientific method. I don't believe every thing science says. For example, I do believe in the big bang, but not the way scientist describe it. I believe it happened when God said, "Let there be..." Yea, that was the real big bang. But I'm a strong believer in the scientific method. That knowledge has actually helped me in my study of Gods word. This short video is a great example. Deuteronomy 14:22-29 explains about the second tithe the Jewish people had to pay; yea, tithes for the Jewish people was 20%, not 10% like I was raised to believe. The first tithe was in Numbers 18:20-32. The scientific method requires a honest lover of truth to not 'cherry pick' the evidence. The truth, the whole council of God, is what will set a person free. God told the Jewish people that in order to pay this 2nd tithe, they could actually use ten percent of their increase to buy and consume wine or strong drink. These two examples, tithes and adult beverages, are just two examples of the things I've discovered that I never heard when growing up in old time Pentecost. It grieves my heart when I think back across the years about all the preachers I've heard telling their saints they are going to hell if they don't give ten percent of their income to the church, and the only Biblical reference they used was one Old Testament reference in Malachi. It's the same with alcohol. Their are many Biblical examples of God giving His permission for the moderated consumption of wine and/or strong drink. Not as a life style, but in moderation.

@clelladams23266 ай бұрын
But God still holds me responsible to shed light on the subject. Preachers are derelict in their duty if they do not teach this. Always start with the most plain scripture concerning a subject or doctrine. Then interpret harder to discern by the PLAIN scripture. Proverbs 23:31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.

I’ve heard missionaries that have gone overseas , especially to Italy, and the Christians drink wine regularly with their evening meal. The Americans were having a hard time with it. Yet the Italian Christians were upset with the American women for wearing pants. Of course, the Bible uses the term drunkard and not everyone who drinks is a drunkard. In 1 Timothy 3:8 it talks about deacons not indulging in “much” wine. In 1 Timothy 5:23 it talks about using a little wine for the stomach. I personally don’t drink because I feel it’s a bad witness, but I don’t have a problem with a person having a glass of wine 🍷 occasionally. When I say occasionally I mean 2-3 times a year. The problem is that a lot of Americans, including Christians, don’t have any restraint or self control when it comes to alcohol.

Drinking is not necessarily a sin. But like he said. Everyone who drinks is a potential alcoholic. Plus from statistics, you see that alcohol is bad

That is what the 'pastor' said - but what do the Scriptures teach? Nowhere does the Almighty (YAHUAH) suggest that anyone who drinks is a potential alcoholic. Always to the Scriptures rightly divided, not the opinions or convictions of men.

Yes. We can drink in moderation yet not get drunk..but yiu dont have to. Its a personal choice. Red wine is healthy. See Dt14:26. Drinking is not drunkeness. Correctly cut the word of truth. White sugar is far worse than all alcohol. Believers eat lots of sugar. Gluttony is also a sin among believers.
@dalehood18466 ай бұрын
@keithdusion,. Grape juice has been proven by doctors and laboratories to give the same benefits as wine. Does the body need any alcohol, no absolutely not. As for other commitments about sugar and overeating being bad, I fully agree. GOD created everything, man has used things and turned them around for his own pleasure. In conclusion, the wine they drank back in BIBLE times was watered down and was used for purifying questionable, unsanitary water. The question is, what would Jesus have us do in our own lives? In January 1996 I made the decision for sobriety and it has been a good one. All the best and may God bless.

The problem is everyone wants to preach their conviction.instead of the word of God .the pharases accused Jesus of being a glutton and a wine bibber in Luke 7-33-35.he.told them that wisdom was justified of her children. All thru the old testament wine is a blessing. We see paul speaking of not being givin to much wine to bishops and people all in the churches. He says not to be in excess of wine.1cor 11-21tru 29 paul speaks of some setting and eating and drinking untill they were drunk he never asked what wine was doing in the church.jesus first miracle was turning water to wine the diciples wanted wine mary said they were out.jesus made some.the governor at the wedding said it was the best.proverbs 31.7 let a man drink and forget his poverty and misery. Jesus at the last supper said he wouldn't drink henceforth of the fruit of the vine until he drank it a new with them in his father's kingdom.duet 14- 26 we read of a feast to god were he tells isreal to buy whatever their heart desires wine liquor. I could go on .now on the other hand.we are warned their will be no drunkard's in heaven. Wine is a mocker strong drink is rageing and those decived thereby are not wise.woe to those who rise up eary and tarry all day at wine until they become inflamed thereby. There's so many scriptures about this topic but hed didn't cover many. This isn't a ticket to be a drunkard. paul talks of everything in moderation. And not putting an occasion to fall in front of a.brother he tells us that he who drinks not to despise him who doesn't.and he who doesn't the same.but if you feel its a sin to drink you better not it is sin to you. Anyway all that being said.i don't care if you drink or not but if I see you stumbling around drunk i will warn you what the Bible says. people will say alcohol has never touched my lips but most all cough medicine years back were 10 to 15 percent alcohol. Well you know we had a bad cough so we took a couple of shots.I want to hear the whole word of God not just one side.are people not reading their bibles? is he? read your Bibles folks. You got a lot of ear ticklers out there .

Lying is a sin and we still speak, fornication is a sin and married couples still have sex, gluttony is a sin a we still eat, drinking and being drunk is not the same, if you are not strong enough to resist sin then stay in your house and wait till the second coming, God doesn't want robots, He wants people to obey him out of love, if you feed your flesh more than you feed your spirit then who do you think will win when temptation comes?

And was raised in a family that didn’t drink. Both my parents did before we were born and my dad’s family were heavy drinkers. I was a drinker/partier until I was 36. Praise the Lord I had no hardship stopping. My selfish life ended and I gave myself to the Lord fully. I knew Him since I was a child. But I was selfish and hurt. Now I am free! I do NOT miss that old life but was death. Look at the very name of alcohol….SPIRITS! I know many Christians who drink, but none that I am aware of are fully dead to themselves and living their life fully for God. They are much more in this world. Finally. I asked Jesus about all the wine they drank in His time on the earth. He said it was different. For a couple reasons. The alcohol content lower essentially, and the spirits prevalent in the earth different. We are in a time where there are many ancient spirits unleashed and we must be extra diligent to guard our hearts/ minds/ eyes/ ears.

I appreciate the Word but scripture cautions against drunkenous. It also speaks against gluttony. Does that mean we need to stop eating. I don't think so. So in the case of both of these substances we consume its excess that is the problem. Same case when money is spoken of in the scripture. Money isn't the issue; its the love of money that is the sin.
