it depends how you look at it, for me having fun means having the joy of the Lord Jesus Christ to praise his name out loud in a revival church lifting high our praises for him and being filled with the Holy Spirit. full of prayer and praise . there is nothing wrong with this sort of fun but it grieves Gods Heart and mine too to see his word kicked very evil and I strongly Condemn this behaviour! Fun also means to have fellowship with God and the church followers, also sharing a meal after church service praying for each other and uplifting each other in the name of Jesus! So, I went to a church service that started at 3 p.m. and the service started on time but the pastor got up and said "Well, I had a whole sermon prepared but he said that the Holy spirit told him to go in another direction". So he had one of the members read a particular passage from 1 Peter and then he expounded on that. The service didn't hold long because it was super bowl Sunday and I was disappointed. He just wanted to get out of church early. Nothing comes before God.

The Answer to why is in the bible. Paul mentioned a Great Falling away from the faith, what we see here is a by product of that. People have been conditioned by "Entertainment" to have such a short attention span that they cannot comprehend God's word normally. SO churches compensate for that by making service Entertainment. This "service" made me think of Exodus 32 where Moses was "long in coming down from the mountain." And instead of waiting to hear the Word of the Lord the people became impatient and created the golden calf as their God instead, and it further says in that chapter how they engaged in "party" behavior (revelry) that was not befitting of God's chosen people. Watching this and other "services" like it tells me we are there where those Israelites were, we are doing the golden calf and revelry thing instead of worshipping our God in Spirit and in truth😢. And just like in Exodus 32 there's always an "Aaron" ready to do and say to God's people what God has not authorised, for their own purposes.

My church did something similar to this before the sermon on “Super Bowl Sunday’, some kid came out dressed in football gear and for some minutes, the speaker and he talked about some football,content and tried to relate it to the Word. As that happened, I felt so scandalized and offended that such a thing happened. They preached the Word and many godly people I know recommended it to me. Try that Church and see if you like it. I watched a church service where they had their members come in their favorite team Jersey if they wanted to. There wasnt many dressed for the occasion. They still preached the word on 1 Corinthians 12 and 13. They didnt go to this extreme though. They did tailgate after service.

My family was there. This was so crazy. Their halftime “show” consisted songs from usher, lady Gaga, miley Cyrus. The whole crowd got into it. All I can do is just sit down and shake my head

I think people should leave football out of the church period. That whole time is for the Lord. For worship. Fellowship. Edification yet people bring it with them to church in one fashion or another. The Lord should be enough. Can he be enough for 1 or 2 hours on Sunday? Just Him????

If you notice as the decades… have going by,the church has tried so bad to make a connection with super bowl sunday, whether through jersey wearing or super bowl sermons and now this illustration???,This is and always has been this country’s/and or worlds biggest event, its overhyped,anylyzed for weeks, by people who hardly predict it right, because something always happens that they least expect,injuries,letdowns etc…why? We have become to familiar with The Lord and His sanctuary and forgetting that the Lord is holy and His sanctuary is designated for Holy actions. This is for a lack of a better word … BLASPHEMOUS. (And I swear I was thinking of the same scripture and later when Moses became to familiar with God when he said “we” concerning bringing water from the rock and caused him to be disobedient to strike the rock instead of speaking to it as God instructed which in turn kept him out of the promised land).

I never known the Muslims to treat their Koran in such a manner. I don't attend church to be entertained. Whatever happened to the Holy Spirit's inspiration and conviction? Why are they trying to make the Gospel palatable to the world. Jesus never used gimmicks although he used parables because the masses were not educated but were either farmers or shepherds so they'd understand His truths. But this... is uncalled for. They're not using gimmicks nor sensationalism in third world countries but the simplicity of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Only in America do we allow this mess......
