I think he means Metallica as a whole, their first few albums were fantastic or even legendary, but for a while, most people have just kind of viewed them as good but not great, their newer material just doesn't stack up to this stuff.

Theres a youtube video with the sound engineer that mixed "And Justice" Where he explains that the band wanted it mixed this way.He said He even did another mix the way he thought it should be with more bass, & they flat out rejected it in favor of what we have today from the original release.Then he meets them many years later & Lars asks him why the mix sounds so terrible!

A Metallica song you need to check out is 'The God That Failed'. That song is about the frontman James Hetfield's mother who was a Christian scientist that had cancer but refused treatment and possible survival because she said that God was going to heal her, but she ended up dying because of it. Another is 'Dyers Eve' which is also about James' parents who were very religious and controlling of him. They shielded him from the 'dangerous world' and he was never taught many things or ever learned anything outside of his household's beliefs and morals. They hid him from from the real world, so when he was on his own he was shocked at how the world actually was. I love this channel guys, I'm an Atheist but I love hearing about Christianity and all of the lessons and morals that are taught through it and I hope you guys continue to grow.

I remember a family in my neighborhood, they had two boys, they were younger than my generation, the mother never let them out to play with the kids their age, and my thinking was that she was screwing them.... well15, 20 years later she turned to be rigth, those kids have good jobs, good cars and great lives and most of the kids their age got fucked up into drugs, one got 8 years for dealing drugs and another one make a scene in front of everybody in the street, he had a bad trip or something. So its not so easy as to trow mud at the parents, maybe James will have a different perspective in a few years

Corey Taylor said it best about Iron Maiden " It was like listening to a history class but they made it interesting!" Pretty much 9/10ths of Maidens catalogue can be referenced to either a film, a poem, a novel or a historical event. If you added up all the songs that DONT reference any of these topics, you MIGHT get 2 albums worth of a material out of 16 lol

Ok, a Metallica fan here, and now a Christian. This song was inspired by the Movie The ten commandments . The sory goes.. they were up late one night, drinking and smoking funny cigarette..LoL. and that inspired the song. That is why you have the words " so let is be writren, so let it be done " , because that is not in the bible. And also why it's called creeping death. In the movie the angel of death was portrayed by a green mist. The guys of Metallica are no big bible followers. So I definitely wouldn't get it twisted into thinking they are a good influence on biblical stories.

Many don't know it's inspired by that movie.. very old and long one. Good point out. I'd like to say that though they might not be a good influence .. they are also not a bad influence either. If one feels the need to express how something is not a good influence. I believe it's fair for that person to follow that with saying it is also not a bad influence.. this be way those that read don't automatically think it is a bad influence because you said very vaguely that it wasn't good but did not clarify. That can and will easily persuade the perceptions of others who don't think to a certain degree for themselves, to consider it as bad if not good. When it's neither. It just is. It's not trying to influence. None of the lyrics suggest that and all said was written and all said was done. Hence the song chorus and words "So let it be written - So let it be done." 🍷

David Rice . The band has never set out to influence anyone.. they just wanted to Rock hard , Party ,and live life. My statement was directed to the paster in this video who made the statement that he could see using this song to help explain this story to others. (something like that). My point was ,I wouldn't go that far with. I was a die hard Metallica in my teens. A devoted Christian, and I wouldn't today let my own teen sons get heavily involved in the music. Thats all I was trying to says.
@noone4271

Penny Miles Fair enough. And I agree.. it is too raw a topic of discussion among most religious followers with very little positivity. Not a good idea for a class unless their is a mass of value in the lessons learned and he ends with those lessons while having his class write how those lessons can be applied to their own lives. Other than that I don't see it.. though its true.. its too taboo of a topic the way the song is written and what areas it brings up specifically. Anyway, you just didn't clarify, so I wanted to write that for future readers who see no clarification in that original comment also, so they don't get the wrong idea of the band. Normally I wouldn't care.. but Metallica is a very deep, raw, and enlightening experience if one understands the lyrics that James's writes. I understand the growing and parting ways with though. Had a small phase the same recently actually.. but ended up being more picky and choosing of what I'd listen to and why instead of just discarding. ... Not to say you discarded Metallica...... You are here and we are talking :D hehe

Typical stigma is metal equals satan, and I wholeheartedly love that you are doing this. I've heard comments about "blood of the lamb" is cause for scare. I can't express enough how much it's important to know what is actually being discussed in this context of music. Thank you thank you thank you...so much. There are many people or bands that one can find the devil in, it does not mean that metal music is only a devils work. Thank you. again. God bless.

Great video and great talk. I was raised Christian by my parents and am now an atheist. My brother introduced me to Metallica so many years ago and at the time I didn't know english to really understand the lyrics, but I do remember that their music was generally frowned upon by religious folk. Something I really liked about this video is his last comment on how the song has no negatives and it's just telling a story. It seems to me quite reasonable and sensible thing to say, as opposed to the sermons of subliminal messages and the like I received when I was a child. Thank you.

Having heard that you might use this song as an introduction to a sermon series, I have a great song you might like for the same reason. It is by the band Extreme and is called Watching, Waiting. It is a Christian gem by a secular band. The song is from the point of view of the thief on the cross who Christ forgave. It deals with the thief’s reaction to what he sees and hears concerning Christ during the crucifixion. I use this song, a lot, to show people that, just because a band isn’t known as a Christian band doesn’t mean they can’t write great Christian lyrics.

I have to make 1 correction. It isn’t all from Exodus. I think the line,” so let it be written, so let it be done,”is used mockingly here towards Yul Brynner’s pharaoh character in the movie the Ten Commandments. I don’t recall seeing that line anywhere in Exodus. Where it does show up, though is several times when pharaoh turns down Moses in the movie. Moses warns pharoah, yet, he ignores the warning and even makes more brutal decrees against the Israelites because of Moses daring to confront him. He punctuates each of these decrees with the line, “so let it be written, since let it be done. “ This is done several times in the movie, but I don’t recall that line ever being in the Bible in that context. Still, I’m glad you enjoyed this snd see a use for it thrologically.

I know. Thats why I think they should hear it. They seem to be the type of christians that would agree with the song. As a christian myself I even agree with it. There are false teachers in the church that use the name of Christ for financial gain and mislead others using the name of Christ in order to extort money from them. True believers in christ recognize that this kind of thing happens in the church.

ed mora Most of Jesus' doubters and persecutors were the Hebrew religiois leaders , they hated him for teaching the people they no longer need the Sinigog or peiests to speal to God. I get irritated by Christians that use the passion of Christ as an excuse to hate the Jewish people. The sinigog condoned Jesus' crucifixion not the people, today's church would behave in the same way if Jesus came and took their power. sorry I'm typing on my phone
@eddie7098
@eddie7098 6 жыл бұрын
MrStacy1974 actually, the Jewish leaders main hatred for Jesus stemmed from the fact Jesus claimed to be God in human flesh... and it wasn't just the Jewish leaders who condoned the death of Christ, it was also the people of Israel as a whole. When they clamored for his crucifixion and said may his blood be upon us and upon our children.

Many Metallica songs explore biblical themes. A lot of biblical stories are violent and dark. It just fits that metal/rock bands would express those stories perfectly. God sending the angel of death to kill the first born son of every house. That’s dark…… and just one of many similar stories in the Bible.
