It's interesting to think that Pat Benatar was in NYC trying to get discovered around the same time Madonna was in NYC trying to get discovered and around the same time Cyndi Lauper was in NYC trying to get discovered. Three major female singing acts of the 80s all of whom are still liked and known today.

She was the first music artist to have to deal with paparazzi on such a huge scale thanks to MTV having her videos in heavy rotation at the time. Everyone had Benatar in their living rooms daily on TV and she became a household name and Rock icon almost immediately. I think she was beautifully poised and handled her monstrous fame with grace. Her career set a great example for the many female musicians that followed although few of them have an ounce of Benatar's class...or talent.

First music artist to have to deal with paparazzi on such a huge scale? Ever heard of the Beatles?

I don't remember seeing any other interviews from when she was pregnant... I used to watch Solid Gold, but apparently I missed this episode!

What I love about Pat Benatar is that underneath her beauty is talent, courage, and dignity. She put her talent above her sex symbol image.

She finally 'admits' that the Pat Benatar 'persona' (on stage) is a 'character' that she 'invented'. She doesn't even admit 'THAT' in her book.

I was disappointed with her book. She didn't get "real" with her struggles day to day before the big break; focused too heavy on the Chrysalis executives crap. I read an article in the 80's she was broke in NY w/Dennis not even able to feed her cat & singing for food. None of that in book. So guarded and self congratulatory.

"finally admits"? Funny. Back around 1980 she was saying that offstage she was someone who loved doing household chores and cooking etc.....
