I fucking cried like a bitch and I'm proud of it My whole life I've heard this mans voice on 720 WGN I went to my first game and actually met him when I was 4 or 5 and also got a shinny stick signed by chelly himself, the two legends were so nice to me and I still remember it to this day 23 years later

and the odds are, he will be replaced by a woman who won't have anywhere near the experience that other MALES have. Just look at other NHL teams. In early to mid-20's with little experience getting on air jobs and they STINK at it.

I am 56 years old from MInnesota. I remember listening to him back on WIND and followed him whatever station had the Hawks ever since. Although a North Stars fan, I would love hearing him call games. Heck! Our whole division had great announcers. Al Shaver, Dan Kelly, and Bruce Martin as well. Another voice gone. Hockey will not be the same without him.

As a 10 year old, listening to my first Blackhawks games on WIND-560AM (straining my old kitchen AM radio on the NW Side of Chicago), I got my first taste of what would become the Voice of my Sports Life in Chicago (and beyond) for the next 42 years... voices like Pat Foley, Jack Brickhouse, Vin Scully, Jim Durham and Wayne Larrivee would fuel my dream of working in the same medium... and while my success hasn't reached the levels of these men... their work continues to inspire and motivate myself and countless others to enter broadcasting... thank you to all those mentioned... and thank you for all the memories, Pat... all the best to you!

Goddamn it Foley, could you not just go one more year to an even 40? I am not a fan of most US hockey announcers but Eddie & Pat were great together.
@geoff3103 Жыл бұрын
You just answered your own question. Danny Wirtz fired Pat for making two un-pc (in Danny's opinion) comments on the air. I mean who else retires one season shy of 40 years when you're in good health?
@warrengauthier4699 Жыл бұрын
@Geoff : What were the un pc comments? If anyone should be fired, it should be the tool that does Bruins games. He always sounds drunk plus makes stupid comments about opposing players. The latest one was him basically fat shaming Patrick Maroon for a good solid minute when he should have been doing play by play.
@geoff3103 Жыл бұрын
@@warrengauthier4699 Foley said " “Ortega, who sounds like he ought to be a shortstop ... .” And the other was “Had I been traveling with the team this year, I might have put a bullet in my head,” he said during the Stars' 5-4 overtime win. "I wouldn't even have had access to the player lounge." Yep. He got fired.
@warrengauthier4699 Жыл бұрын
@Geoff : Wow those are rough comments but these days it takes little to get fired. Just look at the Don Cherry incident on Coach's Corner. He was at the CBC for 40 years and even US networks tried to poach him. So much for loyalty.

always loved Pat Foley but him pulling a Darren Pang on Chelios night and emphatically declaring Chris Chelios "the best American player ever" - basically taking a huge shot at Kane in his return game, rather than truly offering good faith praise of Chelios - was extremely disappointing and a rather significant betrayal of a player who did more for Foley's legacy as an announcer than literally every other player combined.
