@@roysteele135 The version above actually differs quite a lot from the 1974 theatrical release... which was the producer's cut, versus director Sam Peckinpah's artistic choices. So, we've now three existing edtions, and, as far as I recall, both the last two ones have been made by Peckinpah's former collaborators, who tried to keep as close as possible to the late director's specific views regarding that very work of his. (Definitely one of his most significant achievements by all means, in my eyes...).

OMG, thank you for posting this one of all-time favorite films Kris Kristofferson and Bob Dylan were in ! Haven't seen it since it first hit the theaters again until today! Still have the great album! God, they were all so great in this film! It's been a week since our beloved Kris Kristofferson passed on September 28th 2024! He was 88! Rest in Peace and Love Kris and any of the other great actors who were in Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid who have passed away! Vaya con Dios boys! 🕊💞✨️🙏🏼

Yes, we didn't, and I'm still broken up from his passing. I'm grateful to this KZbin channel for uploading this film to me. It's classic Western! May Kris Kristofferson rest in peace and love forever, knowing he lived his life on his OWN terms. He was a hero to me for breaking free and doing what he dreamed of not what was planned. I mean who can't respect a man who will land a helicopter he was paid to be flying onto Johnny Cash's front lawn to deliver the tape of his music in person after being a janitor at the studio and Clearly the tape he'd given June to pass on to Johnny didn't make it to him! Plus, walking away from a military career and being ex communicating by his family for years. I played his cards and came up with a winning hand! Bless his heart and soul for all he gave of himself for us. Like my oldest daughter, Bobbie says, "They don't make them like Kris Kristofferson anymore!" Damn it, she's 1000% right! Yes, I spelled her name differently, but it was because of his song Bobby Mcgee that she was named Bobbie on September 29, 1975! Anyway, it's still heartbreaking to have Kristofferson pass away. Heaven's Gate is another western film he was in. I felt it was fabulous, but the critics hated it! I found it on Tube a few months ago. So, I watched it several times this past week. But the soundtrack to Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid is fabulous. I played my first copy to death and cherish the album I have now! Vaya con Dios Kris Kristofferson! 🕊💞🤠🏇🏼🎶🔪🪭🎩⚖️🫗🙏🏼

A film about the ending of the old West and with it old friendship, the cast is extraordinary, I mean where on Earth would you find a cast such as thi6 now? actors now are crap!, Dylan's music sets the mood, Mr P's direction legendary and the rest is history, this is one of the greatest Westerns ever made and it is a tribute to the old West. Kind of a Shakespearian western movie written by Rudy Wurlitzer and masterly directed by Sam Peckinpah. Saw it for the first time, at age 16 or 17, on its theatrical release in the early 70s (the producer's cut, actually). Also rewatched one or two different DVD versions, restored and re-edited by the late Sam's former collaborators. The original material was so powerful, though, I appreciated every one of them. Perfect cast, haunting soundtrack. Definitely a true cinematic masterpiece.

Kristofferson is exactly the right age. The film is nominally the story of Billy the Kid. But it's really a story about two aging friends reacting to a changing society. It's about how life changes us and how hard that can be for relationships. The point is that both Pat and Billy are middle aged and can't live like they were young anymore.

The script is taken closely from a book I used to own called Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid written by Pat Garrett in the 1880's or 90's. A friend stole the book from the local jail when he was inside. Somebody stole it from me after the movie came out. I saw this the week it was released and the album was my first Bob Dylan record. Considering how my life turned out, I think the movie was a bad influence on me. I wasn't very good at obeying rules, but I'm still free.

No blo-hard background music in this movie. Bob dylan did not have much of a role and not many lines, but his music made this movie special.

The scene at Pat's house was supposed to have been lost. This is the first time I have seen it. And did anyone notice that the coffin maker at the end is Sam P himself? In another edit, he has a much longer speech.

Who cares if it is not historically accurate. It is a great movie, not a history lesson.

Peckinpah's last great film was about friendship, as most of his best were. I still maintain that this and the Young Guns films are the closest to the truth that I've seen, including the Epix series.

Don’t mention real people then and it’s all fine. That’s like saying here’s a book on the Egyptians. It mentions nothing about Egyptians, in fact, it’s closer to Harry Potter than the Egyptians but who cares it’s a great book.

Bien. Soundtrack by Bob Dylan adds to the New Mexican setting. En verdad, fue filmada en Mexico. James Coburn, la leyenda. Every character actor known to Westerns is in this.

The soundtrack is genius. Using late 20th century music shouldn't work, but it does!

@@GregNumber Well, anachronistic elements have been used in the arts for a long time. But it takes artistry to use them. This is a Romantic movie. Dylan's strummy, counterculture idiom fit the Romantic spirit.

@@ARIZJOE you're above my pay grade on words but yes and especially when Slim Pickens was shot and Knocking on Heavens Door plays. They almost mess up showing the man Pat Garrett killed off the roof with a few seconds of song but got it right quickly. Just a great movie and all in Comments like me and you are in on a classic that many never watched. Blessings to All who read this.

Dang, I have never seen this movie in my whole life, but it was obviously an instant classic at the time that it came out. Bob Dylan reading the labels on canned goods in the background while James Coburn shows the rest of them who's boss, haha.
