As a rangers fan, it doesn’t matter how many runs you’re up or the count. Don’t throw a pitch that can get rocked if you can’t handle a homer. Also why was the score a factor? Didn’t we put up 30 on the Os? We were swinging at the end of that game.
@ramirorybczuk91004 жыл бұрын

@Michael Heathman If tatis took the 3-0 pitch, he probably would've gotten some offspeed to setup a double play ball and he's down 3-2 now. If the pitcher didn't want Tatis hitting 3-0, he shouldn't have tried nibbling with sliders the first two pitches, and then miss outside with a fastball. There were several issues that weren't discussed. One was that Tatis missed the third base coach sign for him to take. The pitch was a strike, low and outside, but Tatis has good power to the opposite field so he took a swing and added four more RBIs to his stats. The other issue is that Manny Machado had the next pitch thrown behind him, so in a sense Tatis put a teammate in the crosshairs. With a pitching staff that stinks and only 60 games this season I'm sure the Padres players will be swinging for the fences to score more runs, but also giving the fans what they want. By the way, in the second game of that series against Texas Will Myers hit a another grand slam in the first inning.

The only time I've really seen this in football was when Chris Boniol tied the record for field goals in a game. The Packers weren't really happy about the Cowboys kicking a short field goal when Dallas was up 12 points with a minute to play. There is it’s called mercy rule but it’s used more in the early innings like if the score is 15-0 entering the 4th inning the games have a called due to mercy rule but every inning it goes up by five runs so for them to have gotten mercy ruled they would have to score another 15 runs at that point

Played team sports for 40 years. When we play, we play to WIN! Perform to the top of your ability. The OBJECTIVE is to CRUSH the other team... There’s a reason for the saying “There’s no crying in baseball”

Baseball has so much crying to the point that watching managers get kicked out for hissy fits are normal wtf

I’m a Texas Rangers fan and I hate that Tatis apologized. I’ve played my whole life and if my team is up big, I get a 3-0 count meatball, I’m swinging out of my shoes

Football has it too. Don't blitz when up big in the 4th. Don't throw when up big in the 4th, just run the ball. Don't go for it on 4th down when up big.

Yes there are unwritten rules in the NFL. The most obvious one that comes to mind is that when you're blowing a team out, you start moving to less air attack and more ground game. This lends itself to not running up the score. Unwritten rule.

only 2 "unwritten rules" that i know of in the NFL is lineman defend the QB regardless of what happens, and typically if you're up big in the 2nd half of a game, teams tend to run the ball to end the game faster. Which i mean.. if you dont a team throwing all over you, get a better defense? /shrug
@brianjames98324 жыл бұрын
This is the same in football. If you're up 28 late in the 4th quarter, you put in the backup quarterback. In baseball, you don't run up the score.

That stupid non written rule is just an excuse so the other team can try to comeback in the 9th. Baseball is never matematically over, if you get a nice pitch in the middle of the zone crush it no matter what the score is
@jackherrmann5864 жыл бұрын
The issue with this is that the teams that are losing are trying their hardest to make a comeback. If both teams agree to just let the next six outs go by, that’s fine, but you don’t just wait for the other team to come back into the game

As a baseball fanatic, this is one of the dumbest “rules”, unwritten or otherwise, that’s ever been uttered. You don’t want the guy to send one to your moms front porch? Don’t groove one down the middle regardless of the count

Rules that aren't important enough to be written down are not important enough to be obeyed.

The question isn't about the HR. He was given the take sign and swung anyway. I know coaches get pretty upset when players miss signs. If he did get the green light, hats off to the young man!

Isn’t there unwritten rules in football like an offense not passing if they are up big late in the game?
