Man you guys really need a dedicated soccer guy. 1st. The gold cup is North America’s version of the Euro’s. However it has slightly less prestige because the only countries that ever win it is either the US or Mexico because there really no other competition. Sending the U.S. b team is literally handing your biggest rival the biggest international trophy that they can earn apart from the World Cup. 2nd. The concacaf nations league literally means nothing, it was a way for friendly matches to be a little more organized. It’s like two years old. 3rd. The Euros is not the soccer super bowl that’s the World Cup , it’s more like winning your division but has the prestige of being a NFC/AFC champion especially when you realize that no country has won the World Cup that was not part of Europe or South America.

The gold cup is not a prestigious cup at all, even in the soccer world. It isn’t considered prestigious because the teams that compete in it are significantly worse than the teams that compete in the Euros. Winning the “gold cup” means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things (even for the U.S.). It is like winning the NIT in basketball, it is being the king of mediocrity. The teams that have won the gold cup the most are Mexico (11) , U.S. (6) , Costa Rica (3), and Canada (2). Like I said, it is winning the tournament of losers (teams that are not world class or even close). Finally, the “world cup” being the “super bowl” doesn’t make sense given one is played by clubs and one is played by countries. The Champions League final (happens every year) makes most sense for being a soccer comparable to a “super bowl.” The World Cup is a one of a kind competition given it involves countries from all over the world. The world cup is closer to that of a soccer olympics (happens every 4 years) than a super bowl (happens every year).

@@mabix53 in UCL you face the best club in the world with the best player in the world. The rules are most harder to. Play vs peru and play vs Atalanta is totaly different but atalanta have lot of best player. The player are 90% of her times in club, that make more harder to kick them of the ucl. World cup is most prestigious but not the most harder competition
@mabix53
@mabix53 2 жыл бұрын
@@LeBrestois Yes its true that especially in the World Cup some weaker teams are in it and that makes it easier to win these games. But also as you said the teams play together all the time, which also makes it harder for the national teams to find the same chemistry in this short time. But see this years semi finalists in the UCL vs the euros for example. Chelsea, PSG and city are all just teams that have been bought together. You can argue that real is almost the same, only they have done it for a long time. So essentially you just need an investor with big enough pockets and you can get to the semis in ucl. Another factor for that is that there's always two legs in each stage, where you can have a bad day and still have a chance to advance. In the euros not so much. You need to build a good fitting team without the chance of buying players as you like, install a working gameplan in a very short time frame and then also perform every single game, as there is not 2nd leg. I do agree that the level of play is a little higher in UCL because the teams play together a lot more and the top teams usually have more better players than the top national teams, but like I explained, it is much harder to win a tournament like the euros.

Well that is because you are talking about an international competition vs a competition that is confined to the borders of its nation more or less. The FA cup final is not a "super bowl" because at times teams will prioritize being league champion / champions league champion over the FA cup. There is never a situation when any team prioritizes anything over the "super bowl" in football. The only comparison that makes sense is the champions league final. The vast majority of elite teams would choose being the winner of the champions league over winning all other domestic titles. You might of well said "nothing in America sports comes close to the summer / winter olympics" lol. You are talking about world wide / international competitions vs domestic competitions (apples to oranges to say the least lol).

I dont get it either how Americans always show sympathy to England but don't consider any other European country. Italy has been in 3 European Cup finals since 1968 until they won it in Euro 2020 (in 2021). Italy is also a real power house unlike England. Italy has been regular at finals like 1934, 1938, 1970, 1982, 1994 and 2006 winning 4 of those World Cups. England only ever made it to 1966 final at home. And Euro 2020 as a home nation pretty much. So England can only seem to do Well when all stadiums is cheering for them and they can boo and mistreat minority fans. Italy had a real redemption story on so many levels. yeah, the world cup is the equivalent to the SB, even though world cup viewing figures are bigger. The Euros would be comparable to the conference championship games. See football, (Sorry US fans, soccer) is a world game whereas the NFL is played in 1 country, at least the NBA has 1 team from Canada in the Raptors.

CONCAF and Gold cup < Euros Also I think that putting everything being the Super Bowl is because the super bowl is the only event the US can compare. I love the Super Bowl but you need to understand that people play from all over the world clubs and countries. The NFL is like 90% US (probably 95%) and it’s ridiculous to call them world champs when all teams are in one country

Just wanna put a few things to rest. World Cup > UCL > euros > European leagues. I’d say the Super Bowl probably has as much audience as the UCL quarter finals. The Super Bowl has about 10x the audience of the AFL grand final. The association football best of progression format is distinctly European, the league division and conference format with Allstar games is distinctly American, half of one league being located in one city like the AFL and NRL is distinctly Australian. In Australia only one outdoor sports team needs an indoor practice facility
