I actually don't know why the men's team brings in more money. They have Dest, Pulisic, McKennie, and they're sorta big names, but they're not good as a team. They're always overrated because CONCACAF is so weak, they didn't even qualify for the 2018 world cup, lost in the 1st knockout stage in the last world cup (2022). For the last 20 years the women's team has kept international soccer on the map for the US. The men can't even beat Panama or Canada last month, historically weaker teams.

You have to remember the standard that this team has, you talk about the great defence of the past 4 years but the lack of goals is what cost them in this tournament. Up to feb this year the routinely put 3+ goals past teams. Since then 1 or 2 goals has been the norm. They bought into their own hype and forgot to bring it for the actual tournament. Alex Morgan had a Michelob ultra commercial where they handed her a golden boot before the tournament even started. How many goals did she score again? Oh that's right, zero. One of our best strikers was left out of the squad so that the big name political queen who was clearly washed could get 10 minutes at the end of each game and provide zero impact and actually a net negative. Rapinoe was subbed on late against Sweden and gave the ball away about 7 times in 20 minutes and then missed the game winning pk. The coach deserves the most blame for allowing the team to come in a severely weakened state, bullied by the politics that don't actually win games. We need a new coach who picks the best players and not the players with the most commercial deals.

from a pure sports perspective... Morgan is 34. Rapinoe is 38. Others are over 30. For any pro athlete, that's ""old"", particularly when they're playing 60+ minutes per game. The US has relied on the NCAA system to produce elite level women soccer players for too long. The rest of the world caught up, and adopted the soccer player development models in the better soccer playing countries. If you're good, you're pro at 18, that's it. They also put about 100x more money into it than the US does. Every Premier League team has a women's team, even the Championship and League 1 do, that's fully funded, uses the same facilities. MLS owners actively don't want to do that, even though smaller teams Europe can afford to do it.

Regardless, while she played terrible in her last game for the US, she's far from the issue. The coaching and tactics have been atrocious and didn't put anyone in a position to play their best games. Good coaches play to their roster's strengths and Vlatko has not done that AT ALL this entire cycle. His Olympics and World Cup coaching performances were atrocious.
