The niners played Luke and the Panthers earlier this year and I remember watching and thinking he was the only one actually trying out there. You have to imagine how many dudes really play out there every Sunday and dont care if they win. They are paid so well now all you have to do is survive a few years and tuck some money away. I believe there are so many players and teams that have huge potential if only the players took it seriously and study before each game.

Maybe that had something to do with it - but Gronk left a Super Bowl winning team. Andrew Luck was on the cusp of it. Joe Thomas rode it out for ages. I'm not sure if that was it. Maybe, but maybe it was just time for him. He got enough $$$ and he wasn't about risking his long term health to chase more. The dude was a stud, best LB in the game when he played, and arguably should be a lock for the Hall of Fame.

I really wanted the Panthers to draft him. We took Jon Beason instead. Beason lost his job to Luke, just like Paul would have.

maybe ron rivera leaving also played a part in this, also he is VERY underrated. I feel like a lot of ppl dont quite understand how beastly this man was. Dude had an insane motor+intelligence. He knew the other teams play before they were even fully set. He could do it all on the field and the fact he was an amazing tackler and ball hawk LB was crazy. Dude was always doing it all on defense for Carolina. He would go sideline to sideline blowing up a play, getting a pick, getting a sack etc I think Luke will go down as one of the best LB ever. He was so versatile especially in this era in the NFL where every player has become bigger faster and overall more athletic dude was a beast. Luke was like a polamalu/ray lewis/urlacher hybrid. A true generational talent.
