This probably wouldn't have been so big a deal if the Seahawks had simply ended up punting and the Packers brought it down and kicked a field goal or even scored a touchdown. ESPN’s failures(and Barstool’s success) as a company boil down to 3 major things. #1. ESPN takes themselves and sports far too seriously. At its core, we’re playing and watching kids games. #2. ESPN has never embraced gambling as it should have years ago. Gambling is why sports are popular. Even its fantasy “experts” and advice are absolute trash, you could watch a random fantasy sports tiktok and probably get better advice than what ESPN is selling you. #3. Cable TV was what made ESPN. Their transition into radio was revolutionary as well. But the move from those mediums to streaming and podcasts have been lackluster and I think they’re seeing big numbers from an aging demographic and losing a lot of steam from the younger, streaming audience.
