My Father died this May. He had a big influence in my taste of music, politics, and the way i see the world today. We played that song at his burial at sea... the melody sounded loud over the smashing waves and the crying of the Seagulls, it was one of the most beautifull and sad things i experienced in my life, but i hardly believe that he would have loved it, because it united the two things he loved most in life: The open wide ocean and this beautifull music. I can not listen to this song without crying, though i love it because it reminds me so much on my father...

(TomaJazz)

All his songs are really more than music ... they make me cry, they make me laugh, marvel & surprised. Every time i hear him playing, it is a new adventure. And it is also a secret ... I wonder where he buys those striped Shirts ...lol

VIVA METHENY, VUELVE A MÉXICO.

GREAT song. This "Antonia" must be (or have been) quite jewel of a lady. He laid a beautiful track for her with a multi-dimensional structure that takes you through sweet smooth vibes to a mid & up-tempo snappy groove. Pat Metheny never loses a beat in the process of delivering this polished gem.

A favorite of mine. Note that the guitar part (PM) is accompanied by accordion (David Blamires) and whistling by the late, great Mark Ledford. If you watch the video “We live here” where this performance was taken, you will find out David Blamires does not play the accordion and learned this part on the accordion just for this song. He is a versatile and highly sought after musician who can play multiple instruments and sing. The same was true of Mark Ledford.

Mr. Metheny is peculiarly methodical in an approach to his interpretation of an original score by another artist -- and he does it much better than most with little feedback from the original composer, who's thrilled to his/her hip-joints PM even considered doing a rendition of it(!) Well, how would you feel if a million-selling world-renowned artist decided to invest his own effort into a song you'd spent blood, sweat, years and tears to create and get published...? ...with, hopefully, a modicum of success? Can you pronounce the word, 'jump' ...?

Pat's music is universal. Listening his songs, you will perhaps think it's a simple fusion. Big mistake! critics non-musicians will never understanding the simplicity is a lot harder to transmit to the audience. Remember, if you se a rose will admire it, never really thinking the complexity of it. Just because Pat's songs are easy-listen, doesn't mean his music has no value, just the other way around. Musicians will always enjoy and play his songs for what matter most: beautifull
