How come some people give thumbs down to such beautiful beautiful tune. This is sublime.

One of the best compositions ever made and this rendition is even better than DeJohnette studio version, thanks to the immense musicianship of Pat Metheny

Your analysis is far much better than the song itself. What a song. Never seen Herbie been rattled like this. Pat overwhelmed him. Respect

The introduction Metheny plays here is a proper composition in itself, alluding to Antonio Carlos Jobim / Bossa Nova. I transcribed it and play it on the piano, it‘s fun!
In my humble opinion Metheny on acoustic is another level... leave techniques on a side but what you feel when he plays. They are all monsters, my first music teacher used to say - you see if they are real musicians when they play ballads - now I understand why.

DeJohnette is a great drummer, but also a gifted composer and pianist. Check out the original version of this tune on his first "New Directions" album--stunningly beautiful.

Interesting..Pat's classical fingering..right hand is wonderful..and then he takes a wrist anchoed on the bridge attack..as he does almost always...I personally think there are more expression points in an anchored of the sound board with righthand fingers ..but the guy makes me a lover of genius creativity
