I saw Pat Metheny with Gary Burton Quintet in the mid 70’s and again with his band at Vermont Jazz in ‘77. Not sure if Lyle Mays was there. I’d have to go back & find my slides. (35mm, K64 and Ektachrome) Who knew how far this formerly young man would go. You knew the cat was a bad dude on the axe but still…..it’s like Tony Williams @ 17 playing with Miles. You knew he was one of the best but the extent of his legacy was unknown. Now, in 2022, Lyle Mays has passed on and Pat Metheny is considered an old tiger. Funny how our perspective changes as the shadows stretch out behind us in our youth and then start to stretch out in front of us as we age. Shalom Aleichem to anyone who sees this

I can still recall seeing the CTI Jazz All Stars at Central Park. Grover playing Mr. Magic and really doing it right. These cats were all playing their best live. Creed Taylor had made jazz music commercially viable and the blending of R&B with pop elements had really permeated the music.
