Kenny join my band when he was 8yrs old. Gifted, Kenny wowed everybody then. At age 8yrs old Kenny was writing his own music. I must say Kenny was, and still is very down to earth. Keep doing what you love Kenny.

I agree! Google REFUSES to let me share the link, but check out "Pat Metheny & Friends - This Masquerade." The genius performance of the masterful musicians (P. Metheny, M. Brecker, N. Landgren) will blow your mind!

Kenny writes amazing tunes that are unique and original, yet with great swing and live playing, a creative visionary that bridges an old school melodic approach of the jazz greats and new fresh harmonic style that audiences love and appreciate it.

What a pleasure ! I saw this line-up on a concert in 1996, far away from home - in Montreal on the Montreal-Jazz-Festival. I can even remember the public singing during that song (8th minute). Hmmm, makes me think of the old days ;-) Wonderful summer in a wonderful city, wonderful concert ! Thx for posting !

Dave Brubeck famously said that he considered the audience to be the "5th" member of the DBQ, pointing out that how they act, react, and even the potential for participation would determine to some extent how inspired the playing of the group would be that night. Boy, was Dave proven right here. Also got a kick out of the duet between Kenny and Brian -- reminded me the epic John Coltrane/Elvin Jones double solo on the Half Note version of "One Up, One Down".
@jpssoares917 жыл бұрын
I wasn't familiar with that quote, but I can surely hear Kenny Garrett improvise with the croud, a shout here and there, and respond to it. Magnificent interplay, great musicians.
@jasonnstegall7 жыл бұрын
The actual quote (I paraphrased what Brubeck said) can be found in the liner notes to the "25th Anniversary Concert" album, which also contains notes from Paul Desmond (his are by far the most hilarious), a brief statement from Joe Morello, and some thoughts from Senator Eugene Wright (that's how Mr. Wright signed it). Mr. Brubeck also mentions in his notes (briefly) the role that music in general (and jazz in particular) has played in human society.
