What are you doing in Egypt in the 80s? On the other hand, the '80s were a great time. I'm sure the time you spent there left wisps in your soul you'll never forget. And that is composed dither life. Moments that, good or bad, make you happy to remember. Greetings from Santiago de Chile.

I'm aware of the OVA that existed before, but they said 2012, which is the time PB was adapted. Unless you mean that Last Train Home was used in the old OVA version, I don't know much about the OVA, thanks.

I listened to this song a lot during a trip I took to Egypt back in the 80s. My gramps, or “old man” as I used to call him, my friend from high school, one of my old man’s friends, a man from France, and myself all stuck together as a group and had many good times there. It was the last time I got to spend with my old man, his friend or even my high school friend come to think of it :(. Me and John became really good friends and still keep in touch to this day. Good grief, this takes me back to the good ole days.

I'm sure that Pat Metheny fans are looking at these comments in pure confusion. To me this is the power of culture that's truly transcendent. It gives me real hope for humanity to know that great music can be used to bring different demographics together, and really shows that some things are truly timeless. What a time to be alive.

When I was 10, circa 1988, somebody at school hand me an illustrated ghost stories book. I was scared to death, and afraid to tell to my parents. When the night came, I couldn't sleep, terrified that the ghosts would come for me... finally, after a really horrible night, 6.00AM or something, I turned on the radio, and this incredible song came from the speakers.... and I could relax and sleep... never forget that to this day

Thanks for your comment Philip. You reminded me of my own childhood ghosts, which I never quite managed to leave behind. Even now, when I am at the last bend in my path, they accompany me, only now, as the great Julio Cortazar used to say, I have made them my friends. The song is just perfect. You should not be mad about Jojo fans. You should be happy that good music is being showed to a new generation of kids and teenagers because of this anime. What's the odds of kids these days listen to Yes outside of an anime? It's not the kind of music that plays in radios and tv. Jojo's ftw!

My whole life has been related to young people, as a father, as a grandfather, as a teacher at the university, as a human being. I appreciate the dreams and admire the strength and determination of the young people. But my experience is a bit different than yours, since I see young people very interested in music, painting, literature and cinema. We are responsible for giving them the means to get closer to art. I sincerely thank you for the comment. Greetings from Santiago de Chile

Since the next 1000 comments are gonna be all about Jojo, I guess I'll explain. Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is a long-running Japanese comic that started in the 80s (and is still going on now) that was recently adapted into an anime. The comic is partially famous for the insane number of musical references, and as the author is a huge fan of classic rock and western music in general, the endings of the new anime have been western music. The first ending was Roundabout by Yes, the second was Walk Like an Egyptian by the Bangles, and this is the third ending.

It makes us all cry.. I used to be a flight engineer on the C-141 Starlifter aflight engineer.. morphe myself into an airline flying Boeing 747 jumbo jet freight cargo airliner, 830,000 lbs brake release out of JFK, 😢 I'm too old to fly anymore according to the FAA. But I travel the world all over. These train remind me of it all. Hauling freight and cargo all over the states and we did it all over the planet. Anyhow, thanks for the video. So cool. We used to be badass of aviation and now we sit here looking at KZbin. Why the freight haulers and train guys were the bad asses of freight. My great-grandfather was a train guy and my grandfather as a child work it too, back in the early 19 hundreds before the child labor laws. Love it man keep up the good work. We may have to go back to covered wagon and trains and stage coaches but let's keep them rolling. Or put bicycles. Amen 😇✈️😎🇺🇸

I remember this song so much years ago here in Atlanta there was a smooth jazz station and my mom God bless her soul I would dedicate this song to me because I worked the evening shift and would always be taking the train home., and when she passed for months every time I heard this I would start crying, because of memories now., when I hear it I smile even for just a moment and she made me a Pat Matheny fan for life

I played this everyday on piano the week leading up to the day we had to put our dog we had for 14 years, Max, to rest. We got him when I was 8, so theres not much of my life where Max wasnt there. He grew up with me, saw me through everything, he was my little brother. and no matter how shitty or miserable a day was, whenever i saw Max wag his tail or when i scratched his ears or heard him bark it made me happy and every bad feeling went away even for just that moment. Max always loved listening to piano, and playing this song for him helped me say goodbye for now, until we meet again and i also take my last train home. I love you forever Max

julio radrigan Thank you my friend. I remember a Lodge a family had that only referred Customers were allowed to visit for fine dinners. It was family run and in West Central Alabama, After dinner I went out on the back porch enjoying a full moon over their farmland and having a smoke after stuffing myself on an incredible home cooked Dinner. It was 1975 or so and I heard a distant Steam engine whistle traveling north to south and a unique technique. We had a long way home that evening an my girlfriend an I were in the back seat of here parents car, and they were driving. Later I heard that song for the first time and adopted it as my own. There had been 6 Engineers in my mothers family and a Great Grandfather that was a Confederate Steam engineer was their grandfather during the Civil war in USA. The young men of the family all became Train Engineers starting back in the Turn of the Century and untill the local industry closed after a Century of production. So suddenly so many thing lined up for me when I heard that song. I remember my Uncles telling me how a Steam engine was from an era when such things were alive and deserved respect as such. And how they bonded with their Engines they shared the journey's with. So this song touched my soul when I heard it the first time. It will always be in my heart and soul. Again, I thank you for your lovely post, I had almost lost faith in KZbin with all the childish people here using it as a way to argue and get attention, And now I can remember the better places here again. May I offer another Artist I enjoy as well? Try some Suzanne Cianni her earlier work, And the work without the word Waves in the titles are more pleasant to me. Try Neverland or the Velocity of love as a start and see if you enjoy. And greeting from Atlanta Georgia!

I describe the scene should be one of the most beautiful you can imagine. And unforgettable. In this quiet night I can almost hear the distant train. Thank you for sharing your family aspects, which are beautiful. I will listen to Suzanne Cianni and see if I can do something with his music. Thanks for pointing. I wish you good night and good life.

Today one of my oldest friends passed away. When we were young we did listen to PM a lot, he was the favourit guitarist of my friend and he also was an outstanding fan of steam trains. So it's a must to listen to this great piece of music from Pat with tears in my eyes. Fare well, old friend, on your last train home ❤

Life is like a journey on a train, with its stations, Change of routes, differing scenes, and accidents! At birth we boarded the train and met our parents, And we believed they would always travel at our side. However, at some station down the line our parents stepped off, Leaving the train and us alone to continue on our own. As time passed, other people boarded the train; And they were significant: siblings, friends, children, And even the Love of our life. Many will step down and leave a permanent vacuum. Others will go so unnoticed that we didn’t realize That they had vacated their seats. This train ride will be full of joy, sorrow, fantasy, Expectations, hellos, goodbyes, and farewells. Success consists of having a good relationship with all the Passengers … requiring that we give the best of ourselves. The mystery to everyone is: we don’t know at which station We ourselves will be asked to step off. So we must live In the best way - Love, forgive, and offer the best of whom We are. It is important to do this, because when the time Comes for us to exit, leaving our seat empty, we should Leave behind beautiful memories for those who will Continue riding the train of life without us. I wish you a joyful journey for the remaining years on Your train of life. Reap success, give lots of love, and Be happy. More importantly, be thankful for your journey! Lastly, I thank you for being one of the passengers On my train. AUTHOR UNKNOWN

Rest in peace Lyle Mays. You created some divine and heavenly music. It had this very special spiritual vibe, with those wonderful vocals starting at 3:45. Truly beautiful.

I love that jojo showed me this song. It's a great song by itself, and even better with the memories it invokes within me. A sort of timeless nostalgia on both fronts, anime and normally.

This reminds some of a trip to Egypt with their grandpa during the 80s, and others of coming to Florida for a Holiday dinner furnished by Publix in the 90s.
