On the "it's so weird when they make a futuristic story take place so close" thing i think Dune is one of the best in that aspect because the story takes place 10 thousand years into humanity's space conquering era. Frank Herbert, to my knowledge, doesn't even specify how long after 1965, the release of Dune, humanity started to live in outer space, but that it's been 10 thousand years since they did, so there's still some vague wiggle room to not have the: "humanity conquered the galaxy since the far future of the year 2000" it could've.

Like a couple thousand years from now they basically made skynet and lost earth to it, then the calendar starts over again and Dune takes place ten thousand years or so past that, so yeah Dune is like way WAAAAY in the future.

I played almost every Metal Gear game for the first time this year and I can't stress enough how much this is seriously one of my favourites, I think it rules so hard to the degree it does some of its ideas better than later games that try to reincorporate them.

The reason the save screen looks like the one for MGS3 is because these games (MG1 and 2) were on the 2nd bonus disc included in the Subsistence version of MGS3 on the Playstation 2.

Operation.... intrude n313 Metal Gear 1 is a fine enough game, but Metal Gear 2 is legitimately one of the best 2D action games of all time. What people don't seem to understand about Metal Gear 2 is that it already got a full remake, and then its remake also got its own full remake. They called it Metal Gear Solid. (My ass was proven wrong immediately by chat when Pat said it was Metal Gear 1) The MSX wasn't a video game console, it was a home PC like the ZX-Spectrum, Commodore 64, and Atari ST and was primarily used as a teaching aid for early home PC adopting countries. It did well enough to get 2 follow up models before being obsoleted by DOS-PC. It's primary competitor in the Japanese region was the Family Computer. It sold between 7 and 9 million units, and was incredibly popular for its time, beating out just about every other Home PC save for the Commodore. For comparison, the Apple II sold a total of 6 million units.

I love Twin Snakes when you view it as Raiden undergoing his VR training to replace Solid Snake. There's an easter egg in the Twin Snakes Rex hangar of a VR training target floating by the ceiling which helps make that perspective more compelling. It's also funny to think Raiden is a ridiculous edge-lord thanks to training on a dramatized version of MGS1. That said, the look and feel of the original is super satisfying.

Ghost Babel is a VR mission too, and the player is referred to as Jack at the end.

CDs levels and aesthetic aren't very pleasing or fun to me and Sonic Adventure 2 is possibly the only good 3D sonic game aside from Robo Blast 2. But even then SA2 is barely a *sonic* game as its gameplay Isn't based around momentum at all and only the Sonic and Shadow levels are good. Pat sounds unusually sane here if anything.

After mgsv true ending i'm conviced that the new canon of the events in mgs1 is that Big Boss sent Solid Snake to Outer Heaven to take out a rogue Venom Snake. We know Big Boss knew David was his clone, we know david knows cqc from instics and that snake was also big boss' code name, mgsv makes too many parallels between venom's and skull face situations and Venom looks mostly displeased hearing that tape from big boss so it seems to fall way too perfectly in the classic mgs plot to be coincidence.

TTS is a perfectly fine remake. It even has some nice shortcuts to cut down on backtracking. The only real problem is it's too easy. I barely face any challenge on hard mode.

ICBMs are stationary platforms (except the USSR had truck mounted missile platforms and the US has nuclear submarines with ICBM capabilities). In Metal Gear Solid 2 every character that Raiden interacts with grabs his dick and thinks he's a beautiful woman so much so, that in Metal Gear Solid 3 they made him gay and the lover of Colonel Volgin. Snake and Otacon are a married couple, and Sunny is their adopted daughter. His name is Vamp because he's a bisexual. Not because he's a vampire. In Metal Gear Solid 4, the final boss fight between Old Snake and Liquid Ocelot includes Ocelot giving Snake a big wet kiss on the face.
