I still dont understand the hatred towards big boss, what did people expected him to do, i still think kojima couldnt get over his father death, its sad to see that big boss being a salladin level hero at the game, my father is also a ex soldier until he was arrested illegally in his country, I wont say every battle he went through was heroic but absoulutly not this "evil" either, kojima is a genious but i still think some of his ideology is really unrealistic and shadowed by his father death, this is just a bad revenge taken from his father for passing away and being absent, i want to finish the video but it still pisses me off, some of the things big boss did was wrong but today at our world people would loved him, look at the wars today nobody has to make war we allready have wildest ones happening every 20-30 year, the same boss at peace walker would be called hero today

@@KingBubblesV Having LOVED them all when I was younger, I picked up the "HD Collection" for PS3 (2, 3, & Peace Walker) a few years ago and shelved it for the future. About a month ago I decided to finally open the game(s) and give it a go, & I was hella-excited! But I have to admit that I had a VERY hard time with the controls, dying over and over - I'm ashamed to admit that I rage-quit MGS2 before I'd even finished the opening tanker section (before Ryden even shows up). Back in the day I played MGS2 quite a bit - bought the guide & collected EVERY dog tag, etc. I hadn't realized just how much games had changed over the years! I'm certainly going to give it another go while I still have a working PS3, & I know I'll settle in to it again with a little patience, but I just don't remember having any issues with the control scheme back when these games released. I'm not a big fan of all of the constant, lazy-ass game remakes nowadays, but I'd absolutely LOVE to see the entire Solid series remade for modern times (Solid 1 - 3 at least). I believe there's an upcoming MGS3 remake in the near future, but I sure wish that they hadn't skipped over MGS2!

When I first read The Shedding last year and learned that Kojima's games are about his parental trauma, everything suddenly made sense. I never thought anyone would make a video on this subject because it's so obscure. This is amazing. The same theme is present in Snatcher, Policenauts, and Peace Walker as well, it's unfortunate they couldn't make it into the video, but this is still really good.

One of my earliest memories is my Dad playing Metal Gear, which he then used to teach me how to play games. We'd joke that I was so similar to him in nature and appearance that I was his clone. Up until the series ended, each installment was an event that my Father and I would use to discuss our experiences with it. Much like Big Boss and Zero, we both interpreted what The Boss, and in turn, Kojima, was trying to relay in different ways. By moving on to something like Death Stranding, I like to think that Kojima has realized that in his void, he has created a media that brings people together. Even Father and Son. And though that hole he tried to fill came from loss, he has inadvertently given life to a community, his own Outer Heaven.

@@dolurosu Yes, that is the excuse for the cases when even someone who lived on diet of videogames as their only entertainment has a hard time ignoring the stupidity. There simply is no nuance other than in the lack of new ideas for each game, rehashing the narrative of the previous ones, updated in "nuances". Like hardly at all. It is hilarious how gamers try to intellectualize the sheer banality of video game narrative, especially when like in this case, it juggles with the same prefabricated pieces, using them over and over again, because the "artist" clearly lacks imagination. If one seriously wants to discuss true art in video games, one should talk about gameplay and how it ties into the narrative, as that is truly where the medium shines. But the narrative as a story is in almost all cases just worse than in some straight-to-video B-movie. Or like in this case, a B-movie and its subpar sequels. This is not where video games add to culture and sadly enough there are not enough people who are able to analyze that, which is why video games never have become a serious art form and most likely never will.

Great video, you have worked really well and it shows with the editing. I wish there were more video makers like you for all the significant video game titles like you. Simply well done. I'd like to add my own thoughts as a commentary here, you as the writer and editor of this video, you give Kojima more credit than he deserves because he doesn't have deeper persona than any of us, any of the consumers in the real world. He simply accepted Sony's proposition back in 2015 to work with Sony and having his own game studio, without letting Konami know anything while Konami was ready to work with him for more projects shaping up to be ready to go in that year. And how he dropped Hayter out of the project without letting him know about it, while Hayter gave life to the Solid Snake character with his iconic voice acting and you can't bar that, he litterally was the Solid Snake's first ever voice actor as MGS1 voiced Solid Snake for the first time. Kojima has just too large of an ego, he always wants to be the rock star, the center of attention and you can clearly see that from his tweets on the X platform, the guy is just so full of himself. So TLDR for everyone else, Kojima for sure managed to bring to the audience a strong and significant IP but he is no one to give a character example of moving forward as a whole.

As a lover of literature, reading writers like Orwell, Elliot, Woolf, Hardy, Edgar Allan and philosophers like Neitshcze really gives metal gear a new meaning. Especially when you consider how much 1984 the novel predicted as much as MGS2 about the future world. I swear if you’re reading this, the Metal Gear series can teach you more about life, society, technology and people than any degree or 20 years of education. Add Spec Ops: The Line, Stronghold Crusader and Dues Ex series and you’re a rare intellectual.

This was awesome. I'm kinda proud i picked up on some themes as I played the games but there was so much more behind it all and that they all reflect Kojima's own journey is a great piece of information to tie it all together and give a whole new perspective. I teared up again at 4's climax in Haven with Snake in the hallway as it was describing breaking out. Really hit close and then giving me a new appreciation for V because playing it, it did feel so empty and it was hard to pin down why but this really gave such a great explanation and orientation of how it fit in with the overal narrative of the MGS world and Kojima's world. Really great work, this was amazing!

With all due respect, I just picked this video because it was long, and it had MGS in the title. But after finishing such an INCREDIBLE piece of content (for one of my favorite series), I didn't notice how new of a channel this is. A truly spectacular parallel analysis of both the entire MGS series and its amazing creator, Kojima. And don't get me started on the impeccable video editing. GREAT VIDEO.

Incredible video. The talk about filling voids reminds me of something from the tao. We all contain a void. A cup is 90 percent empty space, if it weren't it wouldn't function as a cup. This video explains in great detail why I think that judging the stories of the MGS games individually is a bad idea...they all came from the same mind and they're all meant to be looked at and reflected upoin as a collective.

But you see, given nowadays, it is clearly that it is more of a collective rather than a singular mind. We also know that this collective is what made the series into a solid thread. If it were for Kojima alone, the Series may have turned out rather differently. And not in a good way I dare say. Kojima is not as a visionary as we would like to think he is.

​@@cobra8888 Nobody ever said these games are soley from Kojima's mind, he himself said that he had help from others, but even those others went out of their way to say that he is a genius and a visionary and they said that he always gave people the chance to share their ideas with him (Yoji Shinkawa for example, said that Kojima trusted him on character designs and rarely asked for changes). So to say that "he's not the visionary that we think he is" is not accurate...a visionary doesn't just push their own ideas, but rather they have the intelligence to let others influence their works and take the best elements of that influence.

So example, what purpose does it serve having Otacon and Snake be executed by firing squad at the end? That would have been canon if it weren’t for his team meddling.

@cobra8888 It was meant to mirror the unjust execution of Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti, but just because some people didn't like it it doesn't mean that killing Snake and Otacon off is bad from a narrative standpoint. I'd still give him credit for listening to his team personally, I don't know why you overplay that having people on his team giving their opinions saved the series from ruin. EVERY dev effort is a group effort, it just that Kojima had the most influence on the success of the series.

Look, if we were talking about the general appeal and all the initiative the series created, then you and I and everyone else will give credit to him as a genius. I owe it to him cause this is my favorite series. It is just that when one digs deeper into the themes of the games, then it is obviously either a) it is one reading too much into it or b) taking away credit from others. Like I don’t think MGSV is how he intended it to be as the video suggested. Sure one can believe that, but not Kojima’s intentions.
