I love how seemingly "random" and abrupt the suicide part is. It captures the feeling of being blindisded to other peoples struggles it makes it feel much more real.
@potenviking8 ай бұрын
I think the last part about the suicide, basically what it does is that it shifts the whole song before that, it changes its whole meaning. You kind of feel the depression that all of the previous characters are experiencing. Its kind of "all good until someone just walks over the line and then its all horrible, but it was always horrible" type of feeling.
@phildiciano91802 жыл бұрын
Its important to remember, the recording here is very attuned to the DIY vibe of Folk Punk. Ramshackle Glory has the OG version with the whole band behind it. As far as the suicide asoect of the lyrics, it lends itself to the chorus lyrics. Begging our dying friends and family to hold on. To anyone out there hurting, keep on loving and keep on fighting and hold on.

If it's not your style, it's not your style. Folk-punk is largely a mixture of social commentary + personal expression. The lyrics might ring true for you, but if the style doesn't fit, it's still chill. I appreciate you checking Pat out. Also, folk-punk fans have the potential to list the most "stand-out" tracks, being controversial or what have you. It's a less popular genre, and they wanna share the core of it.

I personally look at this as Pat’s Redemption Song. He had his trials, he lived his messages, and he came out alive. I’ve never delved into the darker side of substance abuse, but I’ve seen it up close. I’ve seen some people not come out alive, and if you can’t find the strength to exercise that muscle to pull yourself out of that tailspin you don’t come out. I appreciate the depth of your review, and your ability to apply criticism in open way without coming off punitive. Pat may grow on you, but I can also understand why it may not be for you. It hits different when it hits home, though. Thank you for the reaction, guys.

There is a much higher energy full band version of this song if you look up the version by Ramshakle Glory which you might prefer (although this is my preferred version).

100% fair. folk punk is a pretty inaccessable genre to most
@thetragedian41998 ай бұрын
well, this album is mostly about pat's rehab and return into society and the song highlights his most important interactions with people He mentioned in other songs too that he is glad he at least put things right with the dude before that happened listening to it blind is not a big deal and i can see but knowing pat and following him up to this album this song shines the most, since it s his way of saying "i have a purpose and a reason to be happy after all these years" and it really is something to see someone making up to his life so much he also used new mexico as an euphemism for death in his johnny hobo era (before pat and wdu) as a way to show the impact of his friends death Overall you dont get into Pat for the music, you just get to a point when you relate to him in a way of another may it be not fitting in, substance abuse, being lost, or even small things like apathy, he was one of the most influential guys and for good reason, he gone from a gritty angsty teen to a grown man that realises it's okey to feel all these things and you gotta stay positive, and that s how everyone i know grew into Pat

It's weird, I also struggle to get into folk punk for the most part, but for some reason this song just hits for me. I remember a seminal point in my life when a lot of things were changing, and I was walking outside listening to this song and just feeling...okay. For the first time in a long time. But yeah this version is a little rawer than the one I was listening to.

New Mexico is essentially a metaphor for death, mainly outlined in a previous project of his, Johnny Hobo and the Freight Trains (the song being New Mexico Song).
@Locoantropologo Жыл бұрын
No, from Genius; "Patrick has reportedly directly contradicted this interpretation of New Mexico Song, starring that the meaning of New Mexico in this song is very literal. "Your Heart..." and New Mexico Song are two of the artists most popular songs so that people would read this into it makes sense. Pat’s songs can be categorised (not very neatly) into 3 themes, anarchism, travel, and mental health/drug addiction. This song is very clearly a travel song depicting pay hitchhiking to New Mexico after his friends who went there a couple of months ago"

Hi guys. Cool review. Sorry about your sister. It’s good for everyone that you can talk about in this public forum. Pat the Bunny, Pats music has helped a lot of people. I don’t find the line about suicide gratuitous. It really serves its purpose to reinforce the chorus. Be well dudes.

@kevinwillems8720 Жыл бұрын
You're gonna want the studio version then. The second half of this album is essentially demos for the Ramshackle Glory album Live the Dream. It's still his voice but you get drums, bass, guitars both acoustic and electric, banjo, trumpets, piano, and accordian. It's almost a split between folk punk bangers ands songs that would sound like country songs if they didn't have the Anarchist edge(with the exception of Never Coming Come, that's just an old-school country song with different vocals, and I mean this in the best way possible."
