Looks like an optimal underseat, "personal item" size 20L daypack. Don't roll your eyes at the tote handles - it might help altering perception at ticked counters and boarding gates. No kidding, I had a conversation like this at one international carrier one time, departing from the USA: ticket agent: "you have two packs" me: "yes, my carry on item and my overhead luggage" ticket agent: "They are the same size" me: "yes that's because my overhead is really small not because my personal item is oversize" ticket agent: "still two bags, extra fee" That whole exchange 7 years ago leaves me paranoid to this day - not about bag sizes, but about how if they are the same style (both packs vs. one pack plus a shoulder or cross body bag) some switch goes off and ticket counter monster mode kicks in. Nowadays if my bags are similar sized, I make sure that one of them has a different visual profile (pack/not pack, like "hot dog/not hot dog" on a Silcon Valley episode). In contrast, I've seen passengers walk on easily, no "two bag" issue, simply when the overhead is a 22" rollaboard and the personal item is a 25L pack (bigger than either bag I had that scar inducing day with Cathay), even though using a personal item sized bag overhead is actually to the airline's benefit.

I've been waiting for a review on this bag, thank you! It looks like a good alternative to a Fjallraven Kanken No. 2 15' Laptop backpack, though it's a shame this Patagonia bag doesn't have more dimension in the front pocket, it looks like that takes up space in the main compartment. I also like that the Kanken No. 2 15' has a separate laptop compartment. This Patagonia bag has better water bottle compartments, better back panel and better straps, so it really comes down to preference, I guess. Thanks for the video!

Do people actually put their phones in those external mesh pockets where everyone can see them? Seems like a good way to need a new phone.

thanks for this review...it's a nice simple pack but it's too expensive at $89 - and agree w/ other comment about front pocket; it would've been more useful for Patagonia to make it gusseted so that items don't eat into main space. and for the mesh pockets to be tighter at the top so that water bottles don't slide out...or have water bottle pockets like on the Osprey Apogee/Aphelia. i've seen those "hugging" mesh pockets on a Pacsafe backpack as well. *sigh* oh well, we can't have everything we prefer in one pack...
