A Lot of people drag down the zip-neck version of R1 Air compared to Full-Zip Hoody version. I disagree with them. This is a typical 2nd layer fleece, not a jacket. Design for warmth, not as a wind stopper. For me, hood is just a nuisance when worn under my jacket so zip-neck is a far more better version. As for sizing, depends on the person. I am 195cm,110kg, athletic build and XL is tight in my arms while perfect size on torso. XXL is just too wide. As if it was designed for people with large stomach
@IamManOnTheWay2 ай бұрын
In general, I have absolutely the same opinion about full-zip/zip-neck versions of mid-layers.
@bmd63439 ай бұрын
Hugely informative. For running (around 5:15 min/km) in 2-10C with or without a wind over a base layer would you be too hot? Or would a ultra light wind shirt be better? I’m torn between the two? Keep up the great work!
@HendrikMorkel9 ай бұрын
Thanks! At that speed I might be too hot already, and a windshirt over a baselayer would work probably better for me. You might want to try a Vest, though?!

Seems like a good option from the Nano Air hoody, ie, a R1 Air hoody plus a Houdini /Houdini Air . More flexibility.
@HendrikMorkel4 жыл бұрын
Or instead of the Houdini a Black Diamond Alpine Start Hoody 😉
@cannibalmanimal23364 жыл бұрын
For cold runs I’ve been going w a cap air for insulation depending on situation, and the older airshed pullover as the breathable wind block. The Houdini’s too clammy and works against the wicking of the baselayer, but the airshed breathes so well it’s symbiotic. Blocks just enough wind but let’s the steam out. The nano air is great but with the air shed+fleece it’s separating the insulation from the shell so it’s more of a versatile combo. If less active but still moving in the cold it’s either the R1 pullover+airshed or if it’s really cold the R2 tech face, which is basically a slightly beefier R1 grid fleece w a built in airshed. It’s far superior to the regular R2 but at the same price
@sdnalyam4 жыл бұрын

a question about the combination with the Arc'teryx insulation jacket. Is LT or AR Atom model?. Would it be too warm with AR? Do you think LT model is enough? What temperature range are you thinking about? Thanks a lot.

LT should be good for anything around fifty Fahrenheit by itself. With a mid it can drop lower. I’d personally check out the Proton LT since it’s warmer and better fitting.

@cannibalmanimal23363 жыл бұрын
@@bikeinmotion I concur wholeheartedly, the cap air crew is the one thing I wear every day, from fall to spring, I had to get more than one so as to never be without a clean one although they stay surprisingly fresh for what I do in them. My regular R1 is the full zip since it’s easier to get on over a clingy wool base, but I ordered the R1 air crew hoping they will pair up well. Can’t wait to put is under my Airshed, so far the cap air+1st gen airshed has been the perfect cold combo from 40°F down to the twenties. Lower than that I swap out the airshed for the R1 for max therm and airflow. If it’s below 0 F all 3 lol

@cannibalmanimal23363 жыл бұрын
@@GermanBadGuy the half zip is classic, but the full zip isn’t much heavier, and it makes it much more versatile. It’s easier to put on and take off, especially over clingy baselayers or thin sweaters. The main flaw of the regular R1 full zip is the pockets don’t zip which was a major oversight they attempt to make up for with the new Air version. The one advantage is the lack of zippers makes the pockets real comfy for jamming cool hands in since the reinforcement binding isn’t cold or scratchy, but they ain’t for storage
