such a great technique. so many directions to build off of this.

Thanks for this. I love Step 8 but I’m still only scratching the surface with it. I’m in the process of patching this up now.

How did you manage to get Jean Reno doing modular tutorials?

This is a great video! Thanks Bries! I keep flipping back and forth between selling my muxlicer and getting a step 8 instead after watching your videos. There are a few really cool features that Step 8 has that would be pretty cool to play around with.

Nice ideas here! I don't own Step 8 (I have Select, Compare, Switch, and Fold) but I had an idea for using Switch 4 to help with transposing. Patch 4 different sequencers into A-D, and mult thru to filter parameters, envelopes, fx, then patch E-F thru the adder (You use Add 2, I use MI Links) into the two main oscillators. Switch through the E-F rotaries to change the incoming sequences, and use the performance switches of A-D to latch or toggle the A-D signals, so filters/envelopes/fx can be held or momentarily activated. For such a simple and cheap module, it's really effective. Gonna take a closer look at Step 8, Route 4, and the Pivot, they all look like great additions to the utility rows.

v.useful tutorial. i n particular i liked the way you patched select2 and compare 2. thanks

13:45 Really looking forward to you sharing the technique using Select 2 and Compare 2, to randomize just the first step of the Step 8 melody.

Hey! Me too =) I've figured it out in my head, but sometimes these 'head-patches' don't work exactly like I imagined. I will of course document the result, be it here or on my channel.

Yep, I agree with @cryoz1s. Top video! It's nice to see the Lesser Spotted Add 2 get a mention. It's not too surprising you don't see it so much because it isn't the most exciting module, and it is small. But I find mine useful. By the way, I think it clips at + and -10V, so it won't go all the way to the rails. Edit: Sorry, ignore me, I was wrong about the clipping (see the replies below),
@briesmodular9 ай бұрын
Hey hoofjaw thank you! I think most modules are designed to clip at +-10V but in theory you wouldn't be able to go past +-12V anyway. There must be a very good reason for that 10V threshold (I don't know the reason though).
@joranalogue9 ай бұрын
Many Eurorack modules clip at around ±10 V, due to the use of older components. However, our modules, including Add 2, reach (almost) all the way to the 12 V power rails.

@@joranalogue, I am not sure why but I thought I' read that Add 2 clipped at +/-10V. But obviously not. Apologies. I didn't know that about older components and the clipping on a lot of modules. That's kind of interesting, so being wrong didn't turn out so bad from my point of view. Thanks for clearing that up. And thanks for making the modules, all the ones I have are great.
