Was I the only one who balled at the end of Patterson because they keep saying there is no drama in it yet my heart ached for Paterson when he met the small girl who he clearly felt a connection to, like seeing something of himself in her and then again when the dog destroyed his poetry book... I literally stopped breathing. I imagined having my hopes dreams, feelings fears, and personal expressions just lost in one heartbreaking moment. And then the quiet scene at the end at the waterfall... he meets another poet whom again I know Paterson see's a large part of himself as which is interesting since first we see the reflection of hi in the youth I previously mentioned then in this older gentleman with a similr soul who with one kind act reignites the poets soul within Paterson.... I balled I mean I balled like I suffered a loss of some one close and then found out they were alive after all. This movie was incredible on so many levels, but maybe I'm just looking into it to deeply or just from my own take.

No, irisheyes0218, you are not the only one who balled at the end of the movie. I did also, and I am a 60 year old man. It would seem that you understood the film on the existential level and not just the manifest level. I am an existential psychotherapist, and for us (I say "us" because your description of the movie, your interpretation, was about the same as mine) I think we experienced ourselves in the character(s): The struggles of humans, the yearnings that are unique to all of us, the possibility of discovering meaning in the mundane, hope in the face of personal tragedy, experiencing many types of deaths in life and yet being resurrected, the coming and the impact of the unexpected "Other" in our lives, etc., this is in all of us and was masterfully depicted in the film. I think you saw you in the movie. You "got it". Thank you for your comments.

It was similar to me. This is a gem, a rare gem. I just wanted to be Paterson and to be married to Paterson at the same time. I had a similar loss a few years ago, and it took me years to overcome it. It's a shame that this film didn't get any award, nor at Cannes Festival neither at the Oscars. Thank you.

If only there would be a way to cut the translator it would be awesome. It is really difficult to understand everything where 2 voices are covering each other. Do you know if there is a video w/out that lady talking on top of the host and the lady actress?

Egads - the interviewer is so patronizing. He's the kinda of guy I would imagine Adam would have beat the crap out of in his "fight club" back in Mishiwaka. Adam is at least keeping it real. Happy for the cast and director.
@samfilmkid8 жыл бұрын
Did he really have one? Is that just from a movie or is that part of his past? Explain!
@MLNEY18 жыл бұрын
No, not a movie. In an interview back in 2012-14, he stated that when he was a kid in Indiana, he started a "fight club" behind an events center in his home town. Reference to how there was not much to do in his home town. He was a bored teenager.
@stephaniept7 жыл бұрын
I would not say patronizing. It's hard for American who never lived in France to understand the culture and way to communicate, so I get the fact that you "see" it that way. Although I have to say, the host did asked one or 2 pretty dumb questions, yes.
@mlpetersen37187 жыл бұрын
Well, how do you know I didn't live in France? I did and regardless, the interviewer was condescending. I didn't "see" others that way. In fact , it was a wonderful time. wonderful people.....Interesting that you make an assumption. Are you from France or are you 13 years old?
@stephaniept7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the compliment. I didn't realize I looked so young on the picture. I'm a native, born and raised in France. I am sorry you took my comment so hard. I didn't mean to hurt your feeling. It was obviously nothing personal as I was just saying that more than often, the expressions and way to talk are interpreted differently than what they really are.

Such lame questions. It's just a rundown northern NJ town. They're ALL like that in NJ! A lot of talented artists hail from NJ, especially northern NJ. But it's ALL coincidence! Stop asking about Paterson being an inspiration for the story. The story itself -- about two people who live in the moment and accept each other for what they are -- is molten gold. If you really want to reach, then think of NJ being considered a satellite of NYC and the ambition that status engenders.
@jamesbns72616 жыл бұрын
Well fuckin put, I haven't seen it still but you nailed what I wanted to think of it in regards to the premise being "molten gold"

I don’t get it, too. By the way: Jim Jarmusch has German roots and I’m German. I assure you: there is NOTHING inappropriate about her behavior in a German’s view. How Americans or Persians think about it, I don’t have a clue!
