This game is my first real PoE experience. I played PoE1 for less than an hour. Not really long enough for me to learn or remember anything so I came into PoE2 fresh with an open mind and I'm absolutely loving it. Haven't looked at any build guides and have just been learning and trying things as I go. I watched some videos for ideas of what skills to go for and to help understand the basics of skill/support gems, but that's about it. I've been trying what I think sounds strong and fun and so far it has worked out pretty well. As for the difficulty, I mostly like it. Not a fan of the ascendancy trials, especially the chaos trial, but I like that the bosses feel like actual boss fights an not glorified loot piñatas like in D4.

D2 was really tough when I was a kid. I had trouble getting past act2 playing offline barb not knowing how bad my build was. Later on as I had bricked my barb and learned more about synergy after LoD and the game became much easier. Way easier. There aren't clear build guides out yet and nobody can copy/paste and win. Could be the mechanics, could be lack of build knowledge, maybe both. I'll say one thing my improv build was slow and tough up til act3 when I got my first lvl2 support I 6x my damage with one support and continuing the build. Now I know to use something else similar until act 3 and then refund/swap right into my current build. I'm having a blast personally with slow tough fights. Heck act 2 boss took me 20+ minutes for one fight and my hands were sweating.

I like PoE 2 for the following reasons. 1.) It is challenging, it takes more skill than in other arpgs. The monsters are not just standing around waiting for you to kill them. I need to use all of the tools in the tool kit that I build properly. Also using strategy as well is good. Some mini bosses and end act bosses will need you to stay close to them in order to cut out a portion of their attacks that they only use when you stay at range. Others it is a good idea just to stay within sight distance of the boss in order to be able to make it easier to dodge his abilities. This active play style is fun to do. It feels good to finally take down a boss even if you lost to it a few+ times. Plus it doesn't take perfect timing in order to be able to beat bosses with the skills that you have on your character. 2.) The skill UI, where your skill gems are no longer tied to your gear. This is good because I have had many chest upgrades that I had to vendor in PoE 1 all because they didn't have the right amount of sockets, wrong color, not linked or a little of all three. Now if it I get a chest piece that is an upgrade I can use it without any fear at all. 3.) The thing that makes PoE 2 hard and challenging is that defensive layers matter even more in PoE 2 than in PoE 1. Even more so in the endgame where dying means that you will have to find another way to reach the area that you want to reach on the atlas. They could in time remove this which might not hurt much because they still have the experience penalty for dying. Since it takes a long while to get more levels if you are continually dying then it means that, you just might need to farm maps that are a few tiers or so lower than your character level to get good gear to run the higher tier maps. 4.) A good build is important in PoE 2, more so than in PoE 1. Choosing the wrong supporting skills or even support gems to make great combos will cause you more problems than it is worth. But at least that part is able to be fixed by getting more support gems to try more combos to see what works. Or watching a build guide video for your chosen build. Or join the PoE 2 discord community along with PoE 2 Reddit community to ask other helpful players questions that you need to know the answers to. If they know the answer they will gladly tell you.

I would be very curious if D2 was released today with updated graphics and quality of life updates to be on par with modern games if we would all still love it the way we currently do. And I don't mean if it was remastered like D2R, but if the OG D2 never ever existed and was released now, if it would have a positive or negative reception. I love that game because I grew up with that game, and I'll always love it. But I'm not sure if that's the rose colored glasses or because it was legitimately a great game by today's modern standards and expectations. I'm going to dump countless hours into PoE2 for sure, I think this is my new favorite ARPG.
@jbhunterfire8155Ай бұрын
It's early access, and changes are needed. What changes need to be made will be highly debated until the game is released. I think GGG made a mistake by nerfing things that killed various builds without allowing for a full free respec or at least reducing the cost. Even though we are in early access, by doing that they take the joy out of the game for players who don't have time to sit around all day playing, which includes a large part of their new player base. Money and quality items drops are too rare, and boss drops are lackluster. I play these games for the loot and gold; I don't want endless loot and gold like in Diablo 4, but I do want the drop rates increased. The combat is fine, but it needs to be tightened up a bit; it does feel slightly clunky. I'm sure this will improve by the time the game is released. People need to understand this is early access. GGG needs our input to improve the game, and we're not all going to agree on every change each of us wants. It has the potential of being th greatest ARPG of all time but it's not there yet.

I want to have POE1 and POE2 game designs as separated as they can be. I love POE2 for what it tries to be, a challenging and hard game. It will be way more fulfilling when I get the gear to make the content easier. In POE1 if you know what you need to do you blast through campaign and depending on the build you have just a few blocks. It's a lot of fun, but a different fun.
@Tiago_HavocАй бұрын
Its hard for sure but the major dificult is that we don't know the builds and interations yet, i mean, we don't know what works. And, there are contents that they migrated from PoE1 that needs balance, like Sanctun for example, that's why we are in early access.
@MrGilfredАй бұрын
Where PoE 2 is different is that its variety is in the fact that you have many different skill gem setups that can be used in combos to get the job done. Even though you will no doubt have meta builds in PoE 2 but as long as the build you are playing can handle the content then you should be fine playing that build. The only time you wouldn't be okay is if you had some goal you had for the season and you don't have a lot of time to devote to playing PoE 2. Without that extra time you might have to use a meta spec to pull of your goal for a given season. As the meta is shaken up ever season your build can change every season. The biggest problem with PoE 1 is the bloat from previous league mechanics that PoE 2 removes. Bloat in things like having to hunt down the beast with the one that has the nets. Having the one that helps out with delving. Essences also take away something from the campaign. Because instead of focusing on the campaign to get to endgame you might put too much time into the other activities. This made it too much stuff to learn for new players to PoE 1.
@ClubberLang7225Ай бұрын
Great video and well said! Just too add, I am noticing a common theme. That is the copy/paste people are the ones bitching and saying the game sucks. They say "They nerfed my build! #1. Good!! and #2. It wasn't "your build". They nerfed someone elses build you copied. The people sayin "I dont follow guides, I went in blind and made my own build" are the ones having a blast and talking about how great the game is. Am I the only one who notices this?
@Dopamine_DropАй бұрын
I think this represents the views of alot of typical players. However, the "theres only one build to play at endgame", is a community mindset that absolutely is not true if you understand the building mechanics of PoE very well. People tend to flow into path of least resistance to get the rewards in the game they want. Then those same players will copy builds and be the EXACT same player that will complain that people follow meta builds. Its been happening for a decade at this point.
@kobarsos82Ай бұрын
I use WASD too and it's pretty great. The game as far as the campaign goes, is hard if you let it be hard. Its very gear/gem skill dependent some times. Weapon is like super important and it can't fall behind. If a boss seems too hard this is usually the issue. Or its the bad resistances/low HP life. If you never played elden ring/souls games, which is valid, then you might have gotten the dodge skills from other games. Hopefully? Like hades or hollow knight. I belong in the 2nd category so i'm ok. If you are not an action enjoyer at all and played none of all of the games mentioned, then yes, it can be super troublesome. So yes dodging mechanics does make it a bit harder. Just a bit though. I will say this, you can significantly make the campaign easier by simply buying a few items from trading website. Like rare items with the prefixes/affixes you want. From other players. You can also craft them yourself or buy them from shops and craft on them. Most people don't do any of this. So of course it's hard. Also no optimized guides exist because its still one week in. So everything is new. This makes it harder of course. It is what it is. Kripparian video is based, he touched a lot on the "REAL" issues in the game, and they are mostly for endgame. Hopefully it improves in EA. There is time.

I tend to welcome dificulty, im at the endgame and I loved the campaign, buuut, the endgame should be a little curved at least in the begining, im stuck at waystone tier 2 because i keep getting one shot and sometimes its ok because I legit didnt see a skill from a rare monster and it kills me, ok, but now sometimes I play a perfect game and here comes a normal mob with a spell, the spell hits and im dead just because I missed 1 spell from one mob in a sea of mobs doing abilitys, they need to curve that

It's not easy, but I just farm for a bit and doesn't take long to find better gear and crafting materials and then I'm able to blast usually for a long time after I upgraded my gear. Probably not how people like to play but I've been doing that with every arpg and it never fails. Plus I noticed that when you do run areas a couple of times the rare monsters sometimes become more abundant than the first play through in a area. Plus get those rare boxes that have a rare and it's mob. It's good for experience and gearing. Then the game is a lot easier afterwards.

I'm ok with having a hard game, but I think currently POE2 just needs a fine tuning, I think movement speed is a tiny bit slow for what we need to dodge things... and minion builds (the only one I did try xD) minions are useless as they are always dead :D and then you need to wait for them to re-spawn, I would like more that this class would be more about applying curses, spawning minions manually and dodging things... currently minions spawn automatically to die almost instantaneously! So yes, I think it's just a matter of fine tuning! I'll might try another class to see how it goes. And I think the hardness of the game should be scaling as the game progresses and not be easy all the way until you get to the boss and find a 8 to 80 difficulty increase!

Create a lightning Deadeye and take all + projectile damage nodes. The game becomes a cakewalk. And it is difficult to nerf as the power comes from the passive tree. Of course, you can be one shot, but your defenses are speed and proper dodging.
@miramichi30Ай бұрын
I play this, and the game is definitely not a cakewalk. As you point out, if you miss a dodge you will be one shot. I just entered cruel difficulty, and took me two hours to beat Doryani. To be fair, it had been too long since I upgraded my bow. I bought a bow off trade for 5 exalts that more than doubled my damage, and then I beat him on my second try. Also, the ascendancies are over-tuned. Still haven't gotten my second ascendancy, but I'm going to try it today.

I only killed the Ubers once, and the server crashed the moment we grabbed the torch. Of course that wasn’t saved, so we had nothing but the personal experience 😅

I'm stuck at the wolf for the moment. I wish we could pick up gear at our level instead of the zone level.

He gave me a lot problems. I finally beat him after I changed up some skills and switched to controller. If you have any exalts, you can probably get a better weapon from the trade site.

I think people aren't spending enough time improving their character and just rushing to the end. If you take your time the game is much easier

I liked D3 when it released and have good memories of it then because it was challenging. When it became all solo self found and tweak things to be easy I just didn't see the appeal.
@vohbovohborian28Ай бұрын
I don't agree at all that POE is just about numbers. The best content requires a lot of movement and doing mechanics. Many builds rely on the POE version of dodge roll (Flame dash etc) to dodge mechanics instead. It's mechanically extremely similar, so much so that I feel like I'm playing POE 1 most of the time, just with roll instead of flame dash.
@miramichi30Ай бұрын
I get what your saying, and mostly agree, but PoE 2 is much more mechanically demanding than PoE 1.
@AlbertCloeteАй бұрын
Excellent monologue. And I agree - there should always be content that is out of reach. It's ridiculous when I see people complaining that they can't find a unique that their build depends on. Like why are you doing this build? Do a build with what you have.

ive never played an ARPG.. im almost through act 2 as a merc with little clue how builds work in this and ive blown through every boss so far. I dont get how its too hard.. do people who love this genre just never play other types of games?
@Q_thuluАй бұрын
The problem isnt the roll. Its the overtuning of bosses. The question is do you want a playerbase of half a million players with alot of different builds that can enjoy playing. Or a 30k playerbase using 9 or 10 different builds that can enjoy playing. Sometimes I wanna chill play and not play roll simulator. Been stuck on viper natzua on my sorc for 3 days....i put the game down might come back and check it out in a year.....might not. Might be a different game im playing then. as the old saying goes " You have to strike while the iron is hot". Early access kills alot of games because devs cant keep the cadence up to keep players.

if you're a stat warrior and cant actually play games, stay in poe 1. 1k hours of that im tired, poe 2 is better.But dont get it twisted poe 2 i still based on stats. first. then ability to dodge etc.
@GC_RalloАй бұрын
I think a middle-ground is the answer. PoE2's more responsive, twitchy combat is cool for those of us that like the Souls series and whatnot, but traditional ARPG fans don't always like that, alot of them hate Souls-likes. I want them to keep active blocking/dodge rolling and whatnot in the game, but maybe tone it down a bit so that it's not ALWAYS gonna result in your death. Reduce/remove death explosions, they suck and nobody likes them. Lower the damage overall basically, even if you build a tanky character, you can't tank alot of the hits being thrown at you in the end-game, that sucks and it'll make ranged meta builds be the only option for high end maps. I don't want to have to get one hit in and roll away in every fght, I like having a tough character that can stand toe-to-toe with tough mobs and fight it out. Having to roll away every time I get hit sucks, makes me feel like I'm playing some light-armor Rogue build or somethng, and not a big heavy plate wearing toad

It's definately not too hard, and it wasn't too hard before loot patch where I think they honestly over corrected. If it's too hard for you you are standing in aoes or your build sucks

This game requires you to be a mathematical savant to make any progress in endgame and drops almost non existent over 40 hours of gameplay and have yet to find a unique that’s not under leveled losing Xp+maps+bonus on map is literally dark souls so in conclusion it would be awesome to enjoy this game without needing spreadsheets just to still get 1 hit and no poison resist lol shits a joke GGG pull ur pants up
@effindave6909Ай бұрын
I thought it was perfect till I hit the act 1 boss, then the first boss in act 2. That was it for me. I regret spending 60 bucks on a rolling simulator. I play dark souls and elden ring as well. PoE2 is a near perfect game held back by scarce loot and overtuned bosses.
@miramichi30Ай бұрын
If you can get past those two bosses, the game actually gets easier until the end boss of act 2.

Iceman, have you tried Helldivers 2? I think you might like it. Lots of ducking rolling and diving in there ❤
@pompejioАй бұрын
Iceman, I have 12.300 hours in PoE_1, and I would disagree that it’s just a spreadsheet-simulator. Because I am able to do the same thing as you in Diablo_2, like building hundreds of different characters, different acendancies with changed up playstyles and always trying out other combinations of uniques and skill-gems, different endgame goals, and not to mention the skill-tree routes. I believe you can sink in 100.000 hours there and not be done with everything, also because GGG changes things up inbetween with patches and new leagues. The meta and economy are different also from league to league. But I am on the same boat in PoE_2. In these first 7 days I have not died once playing hardcore. I farm the shit out of this game to get me just an additional +20 life ring (or buy me an amulet from the vendor), because 177 life is more than 157. Preparing for the act 1 boss, so I’m even way behind you despite my vast PoE-experience. I am really preparing like it’s the hardest endgame challenge. And without minions you actually have to dogde… ;-) It’s a spiritual journey, and I have only pity for the once who don’t get it. I’m looking forward to all the unique-drops that will turn my brain around, to lead me into adifferent direction.. again and again.

thats my problem :C never got into the first one. i loved all diablo games, but when endgame is complex and such things and all the armor and abilities and skill point stuff and you cant play without a 249024 site long guide about the game and you need to stick to the script, i hoped they will make it a bit nicer for "casual" player like me, but now i see this video. i didnt watch it completely yet, but im really afraid of getting the early access now...

Poe2 just needs some tweaks and it’s fine.. more build variety and more lvl1 skill gems and the passive tree is kinda bland.. some of the ascendancy’s need to be worked on.. the game itself is fine we still need few more months to try out other classes and see what skills and support gems come out.. most of the ppl don’t even have 5 links let alone 6 complaining about nerfs to trigger spells and damage lol
@brandonzanzig3200Ай бұрын
It blows my mind that these "gamers" want just another numbers game. PoE2 is so much more engaging because you need to hone your actual ability to play the game. Great talking points today IceDawg. Like you said, it opens up more creativity for builds and that's always a good thing.
