@phillystevesteak69824 ай бұрын
We'll see. One major flaw of path of exile compared to d2 is the lack of meaningful "maneuvering of the battlefield". Not having systems like hit recovery and block frames meant it wasn't that necessary to kite and lead enemies, and it was more acceptable to be swarmed (and just rush in guns blazing). In d2, maneuvering matters. You need to kite enemies. You need to avoid getting swarmed so you don't become stun-locked. This made it more tactical when approaching encounters rather than rushing in and mashing your skills. If they don't iron out this issue in PoE2, I will be disappointed. It will be a deeply missed opportunity. There are various ways they can go about this, without blatantly copying D2s mechanics.
@feo1304 ай бұрын
@@phillystevesteak6982 This is patently untrue. Path of Exile is far more mechanically challenging than Diablo 2. A simple comparison would be Hillock vs. Duriel. There is no "mechanic" to the Duriel fight; either your build sucks, or it doesn't. Hillock, on the other hand, requires you to sidestep his attacks. Either way, both are dogwater in terms of their approach to boss design. Last Epoch and No Rest for the Wicked are the games you should be playing if you want to "maneuver" during fights.

One of my favorite things as people talk about the classes in PoE/PoE2....is how they almost always spend 95% of the time talking about SKILLS, which aren't locked to your class AT ALL. Same with weapons. It's not the CLASS that gives you these things, it's the SKILL GEMS. Which in PoE2 of course they are given to these classes more automatically, which gives them identity. I wish more folks pointed out that the skills are not exclusive to the classes, though. So your class is still just your Ascendency and starting point on the passive tree....but the skills and equipment you use are always up to you!
@evg3nius4 ай бұрын
never played POE. Are you saing your class doesn't matter towards the end game? All classes can use same skills ultimately at the end? Whats the difference then?
@whypick1_4 ай бұрын
@@evg3niusNo. Any class can use any item or still in the game, so long as they meet the attribute (STR/DEX/INT) and level requirements. Your class dictates where you start in the passive tree, which makes it easier to grab some nodes over others (if I want to use bows, most of those points are in the Ranger area, meaning a Templar that starts in the opposite side would have a rough go of it), and the Ascendancies for each class show for specialization. Sure, any class could get a bunch of minion gems to create an army, but Necromancer (Witch) and Guardian (Templar) have nodes that really benefit minions. So no, it doesn't mean all characters converge to one set of skills. In fact, it allows for far more flexibility. For example, a very popular starter build (one that can get off the ground with a completely empty stash) was an Elementalist (Witch) that summoned totems that used a bow skill to set the entire screen on fire. "Totems" and "bow" don't scream "Witch", but this build very much worked.
@DustinHarms4 ай бұрын
@@evg3nius Any class can use anything: Skill, weapon, armor, etc. However, where you start on the Passive tree (the big sprawling tree people meme about) is dictated by your class. The only big end-game difference is your Ascendancy, which is a small tree you unlock that will be one of 3 variants depending on your class, and while you can switch between the 3, you cannot switch to another class's Ascendencies. Regarding skills though, no limits. A Necromancer could use all ice spells, or wear heavy armor and wield a big axe and exclusively use melee skills. It probably won't be very good, but you can. :)
@viseshism4 ай бұрын
@@whypick1_ as someone who plays bow templar, I can vouch for this.
@tsunamie10154 ай бұрын
@@evg3nius Basically, almost nothing in the game has class restrictions. Meaning all you need to use an item or skill is the required level and required dexterity/strength/intelligence, requirement (all of which are fairly easy to achieve). You can take the witch, give her tons of armour and a big 2 handed axe and smack enemies with it. You can take the big, bulky barbarian and make him cast spells. That said, certain classes usually make achieving some kind of build easier. So if you want to make a necromancer build it's usually easier to achieve on the witch than on other classes, but still achievable on all.

Well ggg has grown and is now like maybe 300 people strong or so. It's like how recently the ftc decided that using monopolistic powers is illegal in itself, you're not allowed to create a market advantage by any other means than just providing the superior product. (Like paying distributers to not use competitor products) Its somewhat related, these other companies need to be making money by providing a better product, not by more aggressively squeezing the players.

Its been said, but the biggest thing about PoE is that classes are not typical classes in most arpgs. You are not locked into certain weapons/skills based on your class, they are just guidelines, so you could make a big melee witch if you wanted or a spellcaster mercenary. So if you see the shapeshifting gem and go "this is the only skill I want to play" you will not be locked into just druid or certain skills, there will be a ton of different ways to play that skill. Im a new player (started 1 week before the most recent league dropped), and i dont really think POE is that unfriendly. I guess my experience is maybe a bit different since I knew to use a build guide before playing. Other than that, I don't think the massive amount of content the game has really makes it inheritely unfriendly, just subjectively overwhelming. Personally, it makes me excited knowing the game has so much content I have yet to engage with, but I very well understand the perspective of someone who is put off by not knowing the full breadth of possibilities. In multiplayer games where you are at a competitive disadvantage for not having a comprehensive understanding of game mechanics, I would agree that it's unfriendly. But for POE, I can make an exception since it's basically a single-player game.
