Got you beat Brian planned our move to France for 30 years 😂😂😂😂 and had about 40 different plans 100 different budgets and thousands of ideas we loved it 🤣🤣 our lady ( holding hand ) is marvellous we have become friends and she still helps us now yearly tax returns etc an absolute gem. For our residency, carte sejour, Driving permits ( licence ) carte vitel ( NHS) translation and official print of some documents, registration of the only vehicle we took with us, etc etc total cost for both of us was €890, for a friend who was going to work here and set up his own business to do that and their residency etc etc was about €3000, just to give you and idea of cost, because some people have the belief no doubt from KZbin that it can cost thousands one mate was convinced cos he had been told by someone that it would be €10.000 each. Thanks for that Pete. We are really expecting it to be pretty reasonable in cost. Yes, we have decent savings which will pay for the ‘extra’ bills over normal living. We know what rent is going to cost, services, food, cars, insurances etc. our way of budgeting is to find out the high end of the costs, add 20% and budget for that. We are not super socialites (apart from enjoying coffee in a taverna) so anything left because we’ve overestimated takes us out for meals. Like you suggest though the internet would have you think you need to spend a fortune. I think that being moderate will allow our plans to work out like yours have for you. Best wishes Brian

Only talk to people that have done it! Talking to people on line is not always the best advise but you know that already! Once you are on social media anything can happen, personally I would keep off social media until you are there and settled in safely! best wishes....

Can I just say that if you choose to share yourself on social media and ask for subscribers and comments, you are going to encounter all that you have mentioned. Sometimes useful information from people in the know but also from people all too ready to criticise. Unfortunately it goes with the territory. Good luck with your ongoing search for all the answers. x

cars are very expensive in cyprus, so if you can bring your car it might be cheaper, plus its a good way to get your dogs over
@PathToPaphos2 ай бұрын
By the sound of things the car tax situation makes it expensive to run and the shipping/import duties add to that, however, not having to buy a car could give me a few years before it actually turns out more expensive. The car tax would make it difficult to resell but I’d probably just run it into the ground rather than sell it. Plus it’s a Skoda, basically a VW golf underneath so spares are reasonably good to get in Cyprus.

Hi Brian. I'm new to your channel and wish you the best of luck with your move to sunnier climes. Don't worry about the critics. You'll always get them whenever you criticise Blighty no matter how non political you are or constructive you are with your reasons. They always take umbrage. With regard to getting your pets across, you know your pets and if they can manage the car journey then why not. I have done the drive myself (no pets) - albeit from London to northern Cyprus i.e. Kyrenia, then on to Nicosia. It was a very very long time ago in a right hand drive Mercedes diesel. Took three to four days. I drove to the port of Mersin in Turkey and took the ferry across to Kyrenia. There is another route from Mersin to Famagusta (very close to the Greek border). A third route is from Tasucu to Kyrenia. Crossing the internal borders within Cyprus , Turkish to Greek, has improved immensely over the last 10 years. Best of luck whatever you choose.

Thanks for the kind words and the appreciated suggestions. Unfortunately since someone started a punch up over the water in Gaza/Israel/Lebanon and also the Turkish are sabre rattling aver the size of their territorial waters the Southern Cyprus government put some big blocks onto the movement between north and south since 1st October this year so I’ve presuming it cut those routes off for a while. Best wishes Brian
@billybob75222 ай бұрын
@Brian-James-Singer Oh, I didn't know that. Worth finding out what those blocks entail. An alternative route is Piraeus in Greece and a ferry to Limassol, but it's a much longer sea crossing. Good luck.

I only knew because we were over there recently and were told it then. It is heresay as we have not attempted to go near the border for some years now.
