Hey, cheers for the video. Do you think you could do a video on your personal favorite visual mods/settings for your XTX since this mod dropped? I personally aim for 90fps at 1440p on my XTX. I saw another earlier video of yours about how raster is king for clarity, but noticed you said in this video that you now can't go back after trying this mod out. Merry Christmas!
@KrushSG10 ай бұрын
@@HankBaxter Hey! Raster is most definitely still king for clarity, but the PT effects from this mod are so tempting. I'm gonna be a little busy the next couple of weeks but i'll see about putting out an updated settings video specifically for this mod sometime. For now, my go to settings are: - RT Lighting Ultra (medium is all you need to turn on the PT effects but Ultra adds more detail to the shadows, it's noticeable to me at least). - RT Local Shadows On (this is just a personal preference, turning it on primarily makes hair shadows much less aliased, but it comes at quite a hefty FPS cost in crowded areas) - RT Sun Shadows Off (this producing nothing noticeable to me) - RT Reflections Off, with SSR set to Psycho (I still feel RT reflections are muddled up on AMD GPU's, even with this mod, and it's a costly setting to turn on, so I turn it off in my normal gameplay) With these settings, u should be able to get ~75-80fps with FSR Balanced at 1440p in Night City, about 65-70 in dogtown, might have to go FSR Performance if you want 90fps. I personally target 60fps in dogtown specifically(cos dogtown always hits the FPS harder), I get about 58-62 in dogtown with these settings on FSR Quality at 1440p. A couple of important things to note though, I have updated the pinned comment, see Points 1 and 2.

Hey Sammi! Most welcome, glad you liked the video :). Love the mod by the way, such a godsend, thanks for all the work and effort! The upcoming changes and fixes sound great, will await the update. And yep unfortunately us amd folk have basically 0 access to Nvidia tech. Wish I were more well versed in ini settings so I could offer more insight on amd stuff but all I know is broadly speaking a fair bit of the RT related settings(rtxdi, restir etc) tend to only work for Nvidia cards(or at best work only partially for amd cards). Tbh I was pleasantly surprised that the mod actually worked so well for me, I was more than ready for it to basically not do much at all cos I'm on an amd gpu haha.

I've really been enjoying your meticulous videos about these topics. Quite a niche thing, but very useful to those of us who are interested in the topic. I've mostly been an NCLM man, since it came out, since to me NCLM does "say" California, and NC is in California, so it feels right to me and it's hyper-realistic in that starkly sunlit way; but I do enjoy the occasional foray into cinematic or bleak/realistic looks too (I'm currently playing with Nova Pure 2.2 and the Pure 2.0 Env and I daresay it's the most hyper-realistic "bleak" combo to date, though it lacks all the extra tweaks that GITS lighting does). I've also played a fair bit with the new Realcolorr 3 LUT and just vanilla lighting, a combo that I think looks really good most of the time (I gather vanilla lighting was tweaked in 2.11 and I haven't noticed what they've done, but it looks good whatever it is, although it still has that yellowish tint, and that's precisely what Realcolorr 3 sorts out - it makes vanilla lighting quite comparable to NCLM actually). As you say somewhere, if you have a proper mod manager like Vortex (or I use MO2) it's easy enough to switch things around to suit your mood and to experiment - although with that very functionality comes the risk of driving yourself mad comparing things and being unable to decide :D

Man you completely read my mind with this one. I just installed it myself a few days ago and was just thinking about dropping a comment asking you to check it out and the next thing I see is a notification of this video! I personally went with the full list of mods the author recommended instead of going with a lighting mod. Looks great, not quite true PT levels but way better than plain RT. There is an area in dogtown where the shadows kinda get weird though, I wonder if you get that issue too. Its actually along the route you usually take in your usual dogtown side by side comparisons, the stretch in front of the black sapphire. Not a huge problem for me cos you really only ever go to that area once or twice. Haven't noticed any other issues.

This is a really cool mod that I’ve been wanting to try and it’s nice to see a video covering it. As much as I love the way path tracing looks in cyberpunk there are just too many distracting artifacts to leave it on. With RR on and off the artifacts differ but happen too often. I went back to playing RT psycho which looks really flat after using PT but I’ll take the trade off for a crisper image and less artifacting.
@KrushSG10 ай бұрын
That's unfortunate, I thought 2.1 fixed a bunch of PT stuff for Nvidia cards. Ah well, at least RT looks decent on Nvidia gpu's even if its flatter than PT. On my end while this mod does have artifacts, on an amd gpu basically anything rt or pt related has artifacts anyway, so I'm picking the better looking of the artifacts hahaha.

Radeon 6700XT here. I installed PT 2.0 Balanced and changed Ultra control settings in game accordingly, I went from 109 fps as I was used to play... to 14fps.... :( Then I went to try the RT file version only (no PT), unfortunately the game didn't even start and crashed out with any file version of RT only, including RT with mixed PT. This was weird. I went back to install the PT 2.0 as at least the game didn't crash, but didn't enabled neither RT or PT in game graphics and chose Raster in Ultra control. I gained +20fps from what I was used to play in the beginning so in the end now I play at 129, 130+ fps at 1440p with all graphic settings on high, no scaling. Another thing I noticed is the mouse responsiveness is so much superior, zero lag consistently, the game was already smooth to me but now is super smooth as butter. At least these files served for something although still no RT or PT. Oh well, I'm happy. Thanks for the video!

Neat. I just got a 4080 super to replace my 7900 XTX, but this is a pretty interesting mod.
@KrushSG7 ай бұрын
Nice, ngl the 4080 super is tempting for me too. This showcase covered a super old version of Ultra Plus, the current version is miles better. Give the PT specific options a try(PT21 is more for Nvidia GPUs, PT20 has tweaks to suite AMD GPUs), gives a nice fps boost with PT enabled so your 4080 super should be able to crank up the quality settings a fair bit with PT21 versus vanilla PT.
@ErgonomicChair7 ай бұрын
@@KrushSG I HAD to replace mine because of the drive timeout issues I was having in half a dozen DX12 games. Like... it was bad, you can never tell what game you willt imeout on (or application) but ever 7900XT/XTX will have timeouts with SOMETIHNG. You just, kinda luck out if its not something you play... which unfortunately Darktide was something I love to play and those timeouts were a deal breaker for AMD. I might try this mod just to see but like... on my 4080 Super I am on PT on maxed out EVERYTHING and its a solid 66fps! Haha it's, amazing. DLSS Quality of course, rayreconstruction, no frame generation. Frame generation I haven't even tried but I just feel liek it'll be bad? BUt yeah I literally cannot crank the settings more! Which tbh was the same story with the 7900 XTX on RT Pyscho no PT. I goes a solid 60fps average on the 7900 XTX with psycho RT. If I could have kept the 7900 XTX I happily would have... it was fantastic in terms of Raster and hardware when it worked. But when Helldivers 2 kept timing out just as I would extract or be having fun? Yeah f-that haha.

Hey, I recently discovered the mod and your video is great! Your last point in the conclusion about being able to pick and choose whatever effect does sound like a good thing, but I also wonder what would the effects be like if you only choose certain RT effects. You mentioned that it seems like it would need RT lighting to medium, but what if I only want RT reflections and local shadows for example with how those two impacted the game visuals the most. I would love if you can do some testing to figure out if there is an optimal RT combo that would have the best visual/performance ratio with this mod similar to how Hardware Unboxed have a RT hierarchy of importance. Again great video and you got a new sub :))
@KrushSG10 ай бұрын
Hey glad you liked the video! As far as optimal settings go, it's a little harder to provide a list in this case because optimizing for a mod is much more subjective than the more generalized lists like the one by Hardware Unboxed. That said, let me give it a shot in writing. First off, I believe the way the mod works is it requires RT lighting to be enabled in order for the path tracing effects to be applied. The reason for this is because enabling RT lighting changes how the game handles both global illumination(RTGI) as well as ambient occlusion(RTAO). A lot of the most visually prominent path tracing effects granted by this mod are tied to RTGI and RTAO, with only some tied to reflections and local shadows. With RT lighting turned off, the game switches back to stock GI and SSAO, meaning you'll lose the most prominent path tracing effects. With that in mind, unfortunately it would seem RT lighting(at at least medium) is a hard requirement for this mod. As far as the quality settings go, going from medium to ultra improves the ambient occlusion detail, and this is noticeable. Examples would be shadows casts by arms and legs on the body, or shadows under the chin, or shadows cast on skin by clothes. Medium quality basically handles it as a yes or no equation(does this thing cast a shadow there?). If yes, it renders a generic shadow in the area. With Ultra you start seeing gradients in the shadows, lighter shadows vs darker ones depending on the lighting situation. This is further increased with psycho but honestly I personally can't tell the difference between ultra and psycho, psycho RT just costs a bunch of fps for no gains to me. For the rest of the RT effects, RT local shadows brings the most benefit when it comes to finer shadows cast by local light sources, the best example is shadows cast by hair on characters faces. Stock local shadows get very aliased and jaggy, especially if you turn up the dlss/fsr upscaling. I am personally very partial to this and get very annoyed by jaggy hair shadows, so RT local shadows is extremely high on my list. Unfortunately rt local shadows can also be a very fps costly setting, especially in crowded scenes. RT reflections is about what everyone else says. High cost/high reward. Turning it on gives the biggest visual impact, but as an amd user, this isn't high on my list because RT reflections only looks good with Nvidia tech, on amd hardware rt reflections get really bad in wet weather with FSR turned on. Finally rt sun shadows is basically not even on anyone's list, including mine haha. I'd rather bump rt lighting up than turn sun shadows on. Anyway, hope this helps in some way.
@henrypdt10 ай бұрын
@@KrushSG Thanks for your great reply! Since my original post I have been using RT Reflections, RT Local Shadows, and RT Lighting Medium which coincidentally matches your recommendation here which is great. I think that is the maximum I will be able to pull out of my 3070, especially with the 8gb VRAM which requires me to go down to Medium textures. I have been debating on using High textures with no RT, and Medium textures with RT, and even though Medium textures imo does take a noticeable hit on texture quality compared to high, RT (+PT) simply have more of an effect of the game so the second option is what I go for. I have also asked the author of the mod for a clearer answer on the RT option and they said they will look into it so hopefully we'll get a more definitive answer in the future. Thanks again :))
@SammiLucia10 ай бұрын
hiya @henryp663. keep an eye out for v1.7 of RTPT, it works around a bug that's especially bad for low vram (like my 3070!) so I can also confirm "sun shadows" does very little... a moving light on fixed objects, which is what a sun shadow is, is called a cascade shadow. from what I can see in CP these are done in raster, not RT, even if you enable the RT toggle. I believe the difference between Ultra and Psycho is "ray length"... how far from your character rays are calculated. I haven't looked though, but this would explain the performance hit without much visual difference. changing from Medium up to Ultra lighting probably changes the number of GI ray samples, so GI occlusion gets more detailed as you increase 😊

I tried this mod a while back and immediately stopped using it within minutes because when I was in the paralez mission where v went into the outdoor side of his high location apartment, I noticed something, the reflections on the distant buildings with this mod turned on with anything other than the "beyond ultra" mod version (which at that time even have bigger frame rate hit than the official path tracing) were all messed up, I saw building reflections literally turned on and off depending on the angle of the side window glass you're looking at. I just cannot unsee that and therefore I stopped using the mod. So this is one are people need to be aware when using this mod because it can totally ruin the experience, I don't know if this kind of basically optimization has been... well, reduced... by now, because I realize that's where you can cut corners and optimize the game, so to speak, this is basically what game dev actually do when people are crying about game optimization these days, they wouldn't do what they did back in the 80s and 90s when they could still recode the game codes to optimize the game, today the only solution for game optimization may very well be reducing the graphics.

Aye, I say as much in the video, it definitely ain't path tracing. Unfortunately beggars can't be choosers, taking what I can get. If the 4090 wasn't so stupidly expensive, or amd wakes up and gives us more rt horsepower, I guess these compromises wouldn't even be necessary. As much as I like cyberpunk, I just can't justify dropping so much on a 4080+ gpu just for 1 or 2 games. Even the 4080 costs ~$200 more than the 7900xtx where I live, which is a real shitty deal for what you get. Maybe in a couple of generations it'll get better, when rt/pt become staples in games and all gpus need rt horsepower as a baseline. Or it won't and we'll see $5000 gpus in 2025.

I tried this mod but uninstalled soon after. Honestly the thing I hate the most about it, is the way the mod is described on Nexus. It seemed like nobody really knew what it changed, and then the posts were a ton of people changing the mod with improvements. Just confusing

It's definitely one of the more edit-heavy mods out there that's for sure, though most PT/RT optimization mods tend to be edit heavy and a lot of the ini settings aren't well understood even by most mod authors, let alone regular folk like us. It's alot of trial and error on both the authors' and users' ends, tryna figure out what works and what doesnt etc, a community effort in a way.

my apologies on that. I'm actually not a modder (I'm a hacker/software architect). I don't really know normal mod etiquette... on the other hand apparently not many are making mods like the ultra+ series? I develop mods using scrum. basically, release early and integrate feedback quickly - hence the rapid development at the beginning. but we get there 😊 it's starting to settle down now... though, that's normally when the devs release an update and I have to work out what changed (and what's broken) 😜

Cyberpunk has turned me off from pathtracing. It just turns my game into a smeary, blurry mess. "ray reconstruction" removes a bit of the delay / blotchy artifacts as lights change, but it also creates so much more smearing and ghosting. Cyberpunk looks so much cleaner when you just use full Raytracing only. You lose a lot of the nice natural shadows, but the game looks way better in motion, and much sharper.

Yes, if you're going to do Pathtracing (and you're introducing it to the masses of laymen) you need to do it right. You need to do it whole hog, or you'll get people saying "I don't see the difference". This is a nice pseudo PT look to the game, but I'm glad things like CP2077 PT and Alan Wake 2 are unabashedly pathtraced. The future should not be beholden to weak RT performance from certain vendors or older GPU hardware. Look at how annoying GTX 10 Series GPU owners got when they found their performance tanked in games that use mesh shaders (not supported by the 10 series). Eventually progress has to happen and people will need to be left behind.

1000% with you on that. Didn't mean to suggest I felt it shouldnt be done properly. I'm wondering why cyberpunk's RT didn't look better to begin with, even today I am firmly in the "what's the difference" camp when it came to cyberpunk's RT specifically. Then they dropped PT into the game and it just floored me. I think rt and pt are technologies that absolutely cannot be half arsed. Look at the multitude of "ray traced" games out there that have horrible and lazy implementations of rt. Clearly slapped on just to ride the wave. I personally want to see more games with well implemented RT and PT. Give me a reason to actually get a proper RT capable card. Or even better, give amd a hard kick in the butt so they'll finally put some RT horsepower into their cards. Ngl, I kinda chuckled when the whole mesh shader fiasco happened. I mean i owned a 1080ti myself, was one hell of a card. But come on now... It's 2023, how long can any card be expected to be relevant for?

@KrushSG I got a 7800xt because there is nothing in that range that can run pt well the 4070 just isn't worth buying for me I'll wait maybe 2 more years or 3 to see if there is a Competition between these companies and for rt and pt technology's to Mature

@@-psycho-0when gta6 will drop and we will see how a good engine uses rt everyone will forget that cyberpunk ever existed. Imagine spending this amount of money on a gpu finish those 2 3 games and then you're like ok now what do i do wwith my life. Imo spending for 4080 4090 without producing money with these gpus is a total waste of money during this economic enviorment.

@@KrushSG Yeah, when I first saw even the Psycho RT implementation of raytracing in CP2077 I was unimpressed for the same reason you mentioned: It felt exactly like the half-assed implmentations we saw from Call of Duty and other developers. A really limited approach that only touched reflections and maybe shadows. So hearing they went to full blown pathtracing I called "Bullshit" at that happening, and then Bullshit again when I actually saw the ridiculous improvement in-game. Yeah, the 10 series is legendary but we're entering a new era with a burgenoning new rendering paradigm slowly becoming the norm. We've seen this before though, as older beloved generations had to be dropped because they either couldn't run landmark new rendering features or couldn't run them well enough. Oh well, here's to more games getting more pathtracing and GPU vendors really stepping it up with major performance boosts in RT going forward. I love that we can manually edit GP2077's ini file to get it to calculate more raycasts and raybounces. I dream of the day when I can run 8 rays/8 bounces per pixel at 60fps +.

@@pR0ManiacS then it'll be us pc gamers going "pretty please launch on pc" haha. My last console was a PS3 and I hardly used it but I've been following gta 6 and gosh it's tempting. Might have to start saving up for a console for that one, wife's not gonna be too happy.
