Honestly, PF2 probably has the most unique but not overbearing implementation of firearms out of any fantasy TTRPG I've played. The Fatal trait plus the way crits work just feels like a perfect blend of narrative and mechanics. You line up for a careful shot, you don't get rewarded with just a higher chance to hit, you actually get rewarded with significantly more potent damage that people often imagine guns having. (And yes damage and HP is already a massive abstraction from reality but we're talking about the fantasy of using guns in this setting.) And the 3 action system makes reloading feel neither oppressive or ignored.

Reloading on a misfire with actual black powder guns is a very bad idea, because the flash in the pan does not mean the bullet has left the barrel, and if you double load, you could create a squib which turns your very nice gun into a pipe bomb. Which is why black powder reloading kits always come with a screw attachment, which is used to drill into the bullet so that you can remove it.

Thanks for the video! The class ones are some of my favorites because they serve so well in giving new folks that I'm trying to get to try out the system an idea of what they can play in a manner that is way less overwhelming than both the official rules material and the videos that most other community members make for them. I was having trouble finding out the purpose of ‘Capacity’ weapons for some time but I did find it! Capacity effectively allows you to dual wield guns. It’s not an reload action, so you don’t need a free hand, meaning you can fire until your guns are empty. Is this optimal? Probably not. Is it cool? Fuck yeah.

Reloading a gun with Capacity does require a free hand though. However the changing barrels or chambers does not. Capacity (and Magazine) based weaponry is usually better on Non-Gunslingers, as those users would not have the action economy of a Slinger’s Reload to make single-shot weapons more palatable. Also keep in mind that some Capacity weapons are not Repeating, so changing barrel/chamber still requires an action; though any ability that contains a Reload action can also be used to change the barrel/chamber

Firearms in particular are great for ranged thaumaturge just cause there's more one-handed options. Capacity is great if for some reason you can't have a hand free, and you either can't or don't wanna spend the feat to get a one handed reload. The key thing is, you're banking on your capacity lasting you til the end of the fight, and probably don't plan to reload and will just swap weapons if need be. Most fights should hopefully be done within 5 rounds at least.

Reload 0 Firearms and Crossbows are pretty worthless for the Gunslinger. It does not interact with their Reload at all. It is better to run those weapons on a ranged Fighter. Similar applies to capacity weapons.

Capacity + Repeating weapons are worse on a Gunslinger, though just Capacity weapons aren’t too bad; you can use the Slinger’s Reload the change the chamber or barrel, and most non-Repeating weapons don’t have a multi-action reload; so you can still benefit there too. This is why something like a Double-Barrelled Pistol is useful for a Gunslinger if you’re a Pistolero or Drifter

A cleared gun is not a clean gun. Take the hour during daily preparations, or every shot is DC 5 flat misfire

Great video. The class does a pretty poor job explaining itself in the book, and I really didn't understand what it is supposed to be good at until I looked at the guns themselves and found all the "fatal" guns. "Ah, you are about critting well. okay, got it" It's really good that you start with this information.

I made an orc gunslinger named dakka with a Barracade Buster (gun with 0 reloading). Except I picked the fighter class with all the archery feats. It portrays the rapid-fire fantasy better than the gunslinger can.

At 1:42 ish you mention the doubling of damage. The way you've written this is wrong - you don't roll 2d8 + 4, you roll 1d8 + 2 and then double your final result. This changes the math slightly.

Pathfinder 2E should have had revolvers in it, I know they have a whole diatribe about how it’s “aDvAnCeD tEcHnOlOgY” but considering this is the same book that lets us take a class that can build a robot companion or straight up power armor, I think have a pistol with a revolving chamber is the least absurd thing they could have done.

dont they have revolvers canonicly? unless im wrong i think revolvers exist they are just increaadibly expencive
