As a friend of mine keeps saying, Thaumaturge is probably the best class to roleplay a complete peasant of a character. Every other class has your character be a very skilled bastard, sometimes even magical; meanwhile, a Thaumaturge could very easily be someone who's been a lowly turnip farmer all their life, only to one day have dug out a talking amulet or pulled a sword out of a stone, and now they're involved into some weird destiny-saving-the-world mess, armed only with their weird artifact and various rumors and old wives' tales about the local bestiary. Oh, and all the assorted trash they've got in their pockets, because Thaumaturge is also a peak hobo class.

I love how you completely disregarded the Thaumaturge feats since the implements alone are OP. For those interested, the best Thaumaturge feats are: Diverse Lore: use charisma to recall knowledge on everything, screw Int. Scroll and Talismans feats: A group of feats that give you free scrolls and Talsimans every day, essentially making you caster in some major capacity. Sympathetic Vulnerabilities: Do exploit vulnerability once for repeated creatures. Share Weakness: share your knowledge with your ally. Esoteric Reflexes: Use reaction implements twice. Implement’s Flight: Fly! Implement’s Assault: Ever watched that arrow scene from Guardians of the Galaxy?

I love that you've done a video for both Kineticist and now Thaumaturge and hope that it may be part of a larger project to do all the classes! You have a real knack for getting a lot of valuable information into an easily digestible, entertaining package. When I share your videos with new players, they actually watch them as opposed to hour long analysis!

Speaking as a D&D DM doing some research to help my group transition to Pathfinder skills like "exploit vulnerability" are miles above anything 5e has ever had. Its amazing

The thing that scares people away from PF is the fact that everyone who plays it has a really big “our game is superior” attitude. It’s off putting, not charming.
@Totema1 Жыл бұрын
One important point to make about exploit vulnerability: by RAW, you only learn the amount of weakness a creature type has on a critical success. On a normal success, you do learn what its weakness is, but not the amount.

If not for this video I likely wouldn't have realized just how PERFECT the Thaumaturge fits in a mystery-horror campaign with lots of homebrew monsters like the one I'm planning. Definitely gonna be recommending this to my players!!

Just found your channel and am a recent pilgrim from 5e. I am absolutely loving P2E classes and their variability. You can run a whole squad of fighters for example and they could all be unique and useful. But the Thaumaturge is especially customizable and useful.

This video reminded me that I should be getting within 20ft of the enemy so I can get that sweet +1 from my lantern. So thank you for that. Just had my 2nd session ever last night so I'm still learning but I love this class and how versatile they are. Instead of the classic Witcher vibe I made my PC an Indiana Jones style treasure hunter whose implements are things they found in their various tomb raids.

If i am understanding this correctly, a holysymbol can act as an amulet but it can also act as a Regalia. Since people wear holy symbols for protection but they also act as symbols of divine authority. How would a GM react to someone having both Amulet and Regalia as implements, would they still be required to switch implements or could the single item be counted as both of them? Cause if i think on this harder, there are other overlaps like a Beermug acting as a chalice and as a Regalia since it is the holy symbol of Caeden Caylean.

What if you use a weapon implement in one hand... And then you use anothrr implement in the other hand, could you do that? I guess no as it says you can switch between implements, but it would be cool to have both thinge in each hand
@eamk887 Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can hold two implements at a time, one in each hand. Otherwise, the class would be honestly pretty terrible.

Should have wisdom for it's class ability
@MrWerwoolf Жыл бұрын
Don't understand how Charisma can help you with monster's vulrnerabilities. Wisdom maybe, but Cha is strange, like what, you just asking it?
@Yurt_enthusiast7 Жыл бұрын
Cha doesn't necessarily have to be how hot or suave a character are, it's also how they can instil their will on others. The opposite side of wisdom if you like. A Champion for example isn't generally a social butterfly but their utter conviction can easily convince others to agree with them. At least that's how I think about it😅
@MrWerwoolf Жыл бұрын
@@Yurt_enthusiast7 it's interesting, thanks for you vision! I was thinking more about that thaumaturge is just know a lot of facts, like witcher from Witcher. Like, it can be anybody with knowledge.
@Yurt_enthusiast7 Жыл бұрын
@MrWerwoolf yeah I would guess the Thaumaturge is a bit more like a sorc or bard then a studious wizard in how they use their talents. It's a bit weird ofc, some of the Thaumaturges abilities feels like they should use Int and some of them Cha but at least it's nice to only have to speck one mental stat when you probably need all of the physical stats as well.
@einkar4219 Жыл бұрын
this is minor misconception, thamaturge don't necessarily use existing vulnerabilities they are creating ones
@alphads200010 ай бұрын
In pathfinder, charisma is associated with will power, like a high enough charisma means you can bend reality to your own will pretty much, its why the default spellcasting stat is always charisma, for like innate spells and other stuff that dont out right tell you what stat to use, they are assumed to use CHA by default, its why also the only way to get greater investiture is through charisma, to invest in more magical items... so basically the thaumaturges BULLSHITS a solution so hard, it becomes true, ever heard of the warhammer orkz? their waaaagh logic that if enough orkz believe something it will be true no matter how impossible it is? like blue being the luckiest color thus the ultramarines being pretty much the mary sues of the whole franchise lol lmao... ya can think of exploit vulnerability as exactly that hahahahah, these thaums really got some magic even if they are not casters
@fritchim5765 Жыл бұрын
Now why would we have them be charisma when its clearly supposed to be intelligence. Real question why do that
@a.h.s.3006 Жыл бұрын
Esoteric knowledge seems to be less academic in nature, like you sit in a bar, talks to a random guy who turns out to be an expert in lycanthropy who tells you: oh and btw, Werewolves are totally afraid of silver, like this spoon for example. Then you take the spoon and show up suddenly in combat and be like: oh werewolves, that guy in the bar told me something about them! *digs through his random objects* "aha! Behold my secret weapon, a spoon!" (Deals +5 flat damage)
@eldritchone1775 Жыл бұрын
Because their capacity to pull stuff out of their proverbial behind is similar to that of the sorcerer, right ?
@dji7732 Жыл бұрын
Charisma in this game represents your force of will. In fantasy games like this, your force of will can manipulate the laws of reality through your sheer dominating personality. For using the laws of reality to your advantage, see the inventor class. That's just an in game explanation though. None of this has to actually make sense.
@tessdreams2006 Жыл бұрын
The Thaumaturge's magic lies in the realm of the sympathetic. It's finding power in beliefs, folklore and association rather than concrete evidence. They make these things real via that sympathetic magic. I would say it might also make sense for them to be Wisdom-based, but I don't think Intelligence would necessarily fit! I would vibe with a more academic spin on the Thaumaturge though that uses INT, I don't think it would mess things up too much!
