The dread Marshal Stance and the Inspiring Marshal stance have different bonuses on a critical success. The Dread stance gives the status bonus to damage and the Inspiring stance gives a +1 status bonus to attack rolls and +1 saves vs fear.

Sorry for comment but: this extra damage is rolled weapon or use number of dices? Example: if use dread marshal stance with a weapon that damage is 2d10 ,rolled the ally a 2d10 extra or is +2 damage? Thanks

Some character's don't get any default use of their reactions. Some, like a shield using champion, have too many choices for their reactions.

Back in 4th edition, I made a water genosi warlord. She was very fun to play, she handed out attack bonuses with attacks like they were candy, and the initiative bonus that she gave out was very high for the level that she was. All in all I loved playing a warlord in 4EI may have to check out this architype .

WOW The Dual Ranger triggering off each other was great. I was originally thinking of a Fighter/Marshal with Combat reflexes so he could use the trip action and still have extra reaction for Opportunity Attack. Along with the Dread stance to debuff near by enemies. But after seeing that trick I think it might go well on Flurry Ranger w/Animal Companion. The idea of the build was Take Flurry so that it hits more frequently as it uses the animal companion's support ability for extra damage. Like the Bear does 1D8 every time you Strike an enemy adjacent to it. So if I get Target of Opportunity from the Marshal class and hit on reaction the Bear's extra 1D8 of damage will also trigger. That damage goes up to 2D8 with feats to boost it as well. To bad there is no way to get Combat Reflexes as it's a level 10 Fighter feat for double this strike and you'd need lvl 20 to get it as archetype but at that point it's pretty much the end of campaign so I like restricting build ideas that at least have their core finished by mid levels with 14 at the latest preferably. I also wish Ancient Elf and Human Multitalented let you pick ANY Dedication and not just the Multiclass ones. It would open up a who lot more options as I often find I wanna dip into a Dedication that's not a class but need class feats for other things or can't get because the previous dip I only used for 1 Feat like when I get Champion Dedication & Champion Reaction so I have a reaction to use but want something else I use Human's Feat to grab another class at 9. It helps with flexibility in builds but still limited due to it only being class archetypes.

Well, the almighty youtube algorithm finally pointed me to your channel and this is the first video Im watching. Really good stuff. One nitpick is that Combat Reflexes gives you an extra "Attack of Opportunity" reaction which is not the same as the "Target of Opportunity" reaction so you can't stack them like you imply in the Two Ranged Fighter Marshal section. I'm thinking about picking up Marshal just for the Topple Foe reaction. A Gymnast Swashbuckler paired with a Martial who has attack of opportunity (especially if they're using a flail or hammer crit specialization) can completely lock down an opponent. The gymnast knocks down the opponent on their turn (and if they have derring-do they get advantage on future trips), the monster stands up on their turn prompting the AoO from the fighter which prompts the Swashbuckler to knock him right back down again. If the fighter has combat reflexes then the monster can waste two actions to get smacked in the face twice. You can do something similar with rogue if you waste a general feat on weapon proficiency and combine it with the harder-they-fall to do damage on the trips as well. Investigators could make use of the Marshal actions when their devise strategy roll is poor. In fact, any character who doesn't really want to make more than one attack could benefit from Marshall assuming your allies don't use their reaction every turn. Ancestor oracle could use Marshal abilities when they roll a poor ancestor D4. And battle oracle could use one action to strike and the other two for Marshall shenanigans. Oracles also dont have an inherent reaction and are naturally building charisma anyways so it could be a good fit.

Hey, welcome aboard!! Awesome trip build ideas...love those!! A trip lockdown build is something i definitely want to explore. Great catch on the attack of opportunity / target of opportunity kerfuffle...you are right on there. I didn't quite understand that then...but starting to get it now. You never get more general reactions (wouldn't that be great)...only additional specific reactions, like combat reflexes for an attack of opportunity or Divine reflexes for a champion reaction. Always glad when people point stuff out because, really, it seems like the more I understand this game, the more I like it. Glad you are here!!

Also, the 4th edition warlord was a Call back to the 3rd edition Marshall class. So this architype is basically Pathfinder to E bringing the Marshal back from Dungeons & Dragons 3. 5.

Just gonna throw out there that a Bard with a Warrior Muse is trained in all martial weapons, and unlike the Warpriest they don't have to slow down their casting proficiency growth. Who needs to sing when you can beat people up and inspire your allies that way?

Ah the 4e Warlord. My group half jokingly called it the best Striker in the game, as it's "striker mechanic" for doing bonus damage was the party. Slap a Helm of Heroes on that bad boy and turn a free action attack into a full standard action so the ally can use a power instead = good times. I'll never forget that time I gave that to a ranger and he used Blade Cascade to get a bunch of attacks or the time I did it to a Fighter that had Warlord multi and then he used the Warlord attack Hail of Blades to give the whole team attacks and used his own helm to give me a standard and I used it to do my own multiclass ranger Hail of Blades effect. I will also never forget the cheese strat that forced them to completely rewrite the Horizon Walker because if you took it on Warlord and hit Epic Tier you could give everyone infinite actions LOL. Good times. Seriously 4e warlord by itself caused so much errata hahaha.

i have a level 1 half-orc barbarian. still pondering what archetype,if any, to choose at level 2... i've considered marshal as that would be the most rp appropriate one for a warlord. but the aura bonuses seem kind of weak and the feats seem wasted on a barbarians. plus the aura bonuses dont stack with the bonuses the bard is already providing us since level 1......

@thomasjenkins57273 жыл бұрын
I have a problem with the Marshal, or particularly, with To Battle! in that it sucks up the action economy. I spend my action to let you move, or two to let you attack, AND you have to spend your reaction to do it. If this didn't cost a reaction, or if it allowed the Marshal to affect the entire team, I think that would be okay. Especially if it didn't cost the Marshal 2 actions to enable a strike. As is... it's not great. And that feels like a theme for the Marshal. A little more flexibility for a cost in efficiency.
