Hey the way you do vids is amazing and extremely helpful, can you do a vid series were you start by going over the basics of the class then make a vid of that class for lvls 1-5,6-10,11-15,16-20 then repeat it for a total of 4-6 builds I think this way you could get not only a lot of content but also help people understand thier classes and make builds as they please (im about to make a sword and board/bow n arrow fighter for the first time in pathfinder 2e)

Easy clear explanations with proper usage of visuals. The only thing I could think off improving would be using chapters. They're a huge help for people using videos as an information resource. Regardless, keep it up, and thank you for your effort! Going to use your playlists to make the swith from 5e to 2e more palatable.

As a 27 year veteran of AD&D, D&D and now looking into Pathfinder 2e, most of these things were basic stuff for me intuitively, but some like the varying actions for spells and such were not clear and you made it very clear. Thanks for that. Very informative.

Hey Dave! Great video as always. I do have a suggestion, whenever I try to explain the limits of early game action economy to new or prospective players the immediate reaction is usually something like “well that sucks, you’re telling me I have to spend my whole turn standing up just to move 5 ft and attack somebody?” I find the thing that helps is leading off with a comment that at higher levels, you can do more on your turn through action economy boosting feats like Effortless Concentration for a free spell sustain or a Bashing Charge (just 2nd level) to stride twice and try to break down a door anywhere along your path. Higher level characters can just do more stuff and it really helps to know that
@HowItsPlayed
@HowItsPlayed 2 жыл бұрын
If the concern is spending an action to stand, followed by another to move only five feet -- the good news is the GameMastery Guide has some advice on managing that. Basically, the GM can combine the standing and short walk together, if they like. I have a video about that here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nKuWmWWwZp2arpo

Very informative! If several Free Actions have different triggers, can they all take place in one turn/round? In D&D you only get one Free Action, so I'm wondering how it's different in Pathfinder!
@HowItsPlayed
@HowItsPlayed 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, if you have access to several abilities that cost Free Actions, you can use them all provided they're different triggering events. And you can use the same ability multiple times, as long as the triggering event occurs multiple times. Say, you have an ability that costs a Free Action and the Trigger is "when an adjacent ally is hit by an attack." You could use that ability every time an adjacent ally is hit... because each hit would be considered a different triggering event. But keep in mind the GM is always allowed to set their own limit to Free Actions too.

It makes sense to me -- the Stride action represents running as fast as you can for up to 2 seconds (one-third of a round), but you need to slow down in order to attack accurately. (Or maybe you could run in a straight line while swinging a weapon, but such a telegraphed attack would also be easy to dodge.) On the other hand, I don't like that you can't split activities between two rounds -- the end of a round isn't something that exists in the game world, so why should it affect what the characters can do?

A friend of my group had difficulty remembering the rules and stuff, but it clicked as soon as she got physical token of the different things. So the 3 actions became "3 rocks". I'd wager that approach could be quite effective for some people with learning disabilities or having hard time with gaming mechanics in general.

@How It's Played: Concerning retributive strike: i read several discussions about Retributive Strike and the Damage Reduction: does it really reduce different kinds of damage or only one damage. F.e. if the character receives slashing and fire damage, does retributive Strike reduce X damage slashing AND x damage fire? Or is this reduction applied only once?

I'm considering picking up Pathfinder 2E. I've never played before. I'm considering picking up Pathfinder 2E. I've never played before. I'm curious, if a character chooses to stride 15 ft. Example to get closer to an enemy, is the enemy able to counter? Let's say that an enemy was in an open field, was 20 ft away, both the player and the NPC had swords drawn and were aware of each other. Let's say that the player chooses stride as an action to get closer to the NPC. Obviously in real combat, when somebody approaches, the one would have the opportunity to retreat back, to move forward, or to stand their ground. Does the NPC have this option? When the other character moves? How would that work?
@HowItsPlayed
@HowItsPlayed 4 ай бұрын
Under most circumstances a character will need to wait until it's their turn before they can move or take other actions. So, if a player strides over to an enemy, that enemy will not move or act immediately but instead would allow the player to complete their turn and then move when it is officially the enemy's turn. There are some exceptions to this. Each character (including enemies) can spend one Reaction per turn. Some creatures have reactions that allow them to move away when someone moves next to them. Others (and more common) can spend their reaction to follow when someone moves away from them. But each creature is limited to how they can spend their reactions... they need to have an ability or effect that allows it. Another option is what's called a Ready action (I have a few videos on the topic). If the enemy had spent 2 actions on their previous turn, they could have said "I'm going to Ready an action. If an enemy moves next to me, I will move away". And then when the player moves next to them, they could spend their action to move away. But not if they had not readied their action.

@@HowItsPlayedThanks for the very quick and thorough response. I look forward to watching the remainder of your videos. You obviously have a love for Pathfinder. Jordan iron, given the amount of material published to support the game, it seems like a good option. I'm coming from Rolemaster (sometimes referred to as chart master) which was published in the '80s. I love the gritty realism and own most of the material published for the game. That said, I've played through all of the adventures. I'm looking for a system that has published adventures and this seems like a good fit.
