(If you don't know, D&D's silver are verry "live and let live;" unless your a chromatic dragon. Then your "too dangerous to be kept alive!" (even if you havn't done anything evil *yet.* )

Personally, I alwayes liked the fact that the PF 'western' dragon designs were not as drasticallty different from each other compared to DnD, as that seemed to correlate better with the lore that they are all related, and descended from a single origin. Still, the designs seem unique enough, and still identify as a distinct group compared to the Tian Xia dragons (who also have similar designs within the group). I know this is fantasy, but that makes it more...biologically logical in my head. Awesome content as always!

There could be more differences The physical one are great! But coloration, safe and tropy. How about having Yellow, Blue, Red, White and Black to be the most known while Orange, Purple, Green, Grey and even Brown as less known/ supplementary? What the blazes stops Paizo and even WotC to do that?? No excuses really. Homebrew sure but I want the proper official take. Dragons sells like cookies in any form * facepalm through my head *

One of the unexpected things this series is teaching me is more about what I find inspiring in terms of running games. Because while the information on dragon types and where they come from is great it doesn't make me think 'Man I really wanna run a game with dragons'. Whereas the information on the individual, notable dragons I found really inspiring and could see multiple points where I'd love to run something.
@TheMythKeeper
@TheMythKeeper 10 ай бұрын
This makes a lot of sense. Some information here is here for completeness (like all the ecology stuff) while some is here because its world-building. The former is useful to have in the back of your head when running a dragon npc, the latter is more likely to prompt you to include a dragon in your game.

But spent most of his time shape shifted into a human with brass colored eyes. And no molars in his mouth. He said they felt funny.

I always figured the "Dragon Creation Myth" is only spread by Metallic/Chromatic Dragons due to braggadocio and an inferiority complex from being "rural hicks" compared to other dragon-types. The Creation Myth is only true if you consider it the Kobold Creation Myth. That the First Kobolds were spawned from the torn flesh of the Chromatics when Tiamat healed them with her divine power.

Thank you for another wonderful job. I love the lore of Pathfinder. It is both expansive, rich, and really does draw some great depth. And thank you for going into the IRL lore. I think that if Pathfinder does anything, it is really a melting pot of ideas that seeks to allow for representation of our real world myths and ideas, so that way players have access to the whole sandbox, so to speak. When you include some IRL research, it is really fun to see themes being extrapolated in the lore. I wish for you an abundance of new viewership and may the liches of the coast be reminded of what once was their spirit.

I love these lore videos. it has allowed me to learn more about the lore, I've actually gotten the Pathfinder Starter Box and after we finish moving I'd like to play it with my family. Really though the real thing that got me into the franchise were the two video games which are interpretations of Adventure Paths by the same name. I'd love to see a future series where you cover the various adventure paths chronologically: starting with the ones in First Edition and moving on to second edition. Also videos comparing the video games of Kingmaker and Wrath of the Righteous to their original adventure paths to see how they stack up in terms of adaptations of the two. For me I love Dragons. But I'm fairly certain we can all agree that the best dragon in Pathfinder is Aivu, Aivu is the best Dragon and I will die on that hill.

@TheMythKeeper
@TheMythKeeper 10 ай бұрын
I'm guessing that some of the lore around Tiamat and Apsu will change, but I'm not sure, it hasn't really been disclosed. Although Tiamat is technically a mythological figure, and not D&D IP, its become so closely tied to D&D product identity that I think Paizo will want to put some distance between them and the progenitor brand. I found myself wanting to put this video out _before_ the lore change, so people had a chance to see how it used to be. I'll put together a new vid after Remaster.

Combined the obsession with order of pathfinder's silver dragons, with the zenophobia against chromatics of D&D's silvers, but colored like whites, and you get Wings of Fire's icewings. ... The bronze dragons sound just like the sea-wing royal fammily, except they are blue, and have no breath weapon. ... Night wings are edict dragons who look like black dragons. ... coppers are like the sand wings from the squarpion's den, who tend to look more like gold dragons. (edit: clerification: sand wings are abit like a gold/copper/psutodraon hybred. With the personality of the copper, the gold's firebreath and yellow(ish) scales, and the psutodragon's tail-stinger.)

Now they will be based on four essences of magic (arcane, divine, primal and occult) with various subtypes and not bound by alignment. Will there be a new video when Pathfinder Remastered comes with new info?

It should be mentioned that dragon lore in Pathfinder is getting a rework. The rework in autumn is to avoid conflicts and to disconnect it completely from dnd and future prof it away from the OGL. Guess that means we are getting another dragon creature feature in autumn? :P

I wonder how will Paizo handle continuity changes with chromatic and metallic dragons going away with revision of 2e Pathfinder. Remastered edition will no logier have OGL dragons, but Paizo will make new dragons flavored as according to pathfinder magic traditions: occult, arcane, divine and primal.

Sometimes I think that the idea of a dragon is too compelling. Whenever a dragon presence is known in the game, the PCs will either immediately consider it a challenge to defeat (in case of evil ones) or a tourist atraction to visit (in case of a good ones). I think it would be cool to have dragons as just a part of the ecosystem, shaping the world around them without immediately becoming the focus of the adventure, but that's difficult to do. Assuming that adult dragons usually live alone, don't want to share territory, and don't like to spend night outside their lair (or leave the lair unattended for a longer time), I conclude that a dragon would control a territory with a radius being the distance they can fly in half a day (so that they could scout any place within their territory and return to their lair for the night). Considering the speed of dragon flight listed in Bestiary, it would mean teritorries around 100-150 miles in diameter. As there are many types of dragons, for almost any type of the terrain there's a type of dragon which would enjoy living there. As a result, the dragons would divide the land between them, reaching the maximal density. Only events like Dragonplague or mass dragon hunts could prevent them from doing this. Considering the sizes of countries, that's a lot of dragons, much more than there are mentioned in the gazeteers. Imagine that wherever you are, it's likely that there is a dragon lair within 50-70 miles from you, even if it's not known to the public.
@TheMythKeeper

That's a good analysis and if that sounds like an appealing detail for your gameworld, remember its your game and you can run it your own way. Because of the power of dragons, I do tend to make them a rarity, even though you're right that logistically, creatures of this power would probably spread to maximal distribution.

Only recently did I stumble over Pathfinder. Kinda wonder if it's the RPG of choice to rebel against D&D's new rules regarding fan-made content. Are you planning class videos in the future? Just reading about the monk, since the idea of werewolf monk is a lifelong concept I always enjoyed.
@TheMythKeeper
@TheMythKeeper 9 ай бұрын
Pathfinder was the RPG of choice to rebel against 4th edition! But maybe its the RPG of choice to rebel against One D&D as well, I guess we'll see. What goes around comes around. I may do some class videos eventually, but since my content is lore focused and classes are really more of a mechanics thing I may not. Classes also change substantially between editions, so we'll see what ends up being core in REMASTER and maybe do something with that. No immediate plans I guess is the point.

@@TheMythKeeper A lot of people really liked D&D 3.5 edition. Pathfinder appears to borrow a lot more from D&D than it probably should, but given Wizards of the Coast's own shameless lifting I guess it's not such a big deal.

I'm actually working on an Alkenstar video as I type this, but its going to be a bit of wait before it hits the channel. I have a few other videos still to release between now and then. As for gargoyles, there are few PC races that have wings from the get-go. You might consider looking at something like The Strix and reflavoring that as a gargoyle if you want to play a gargoyle character. Or perhaps even better would be an Oread if you don't mind playing a gargoyle without wings.
