I can imagine an adventure where the Ghost King Geb convokes a group of adventures to slay an Umbral Dragon that has attacked Geb, since his own army would be weak to it.

Given the lore that powerful necromancers often try to tame umbral dragons I can imagine that one of his death lords had made a disastrous attempt at taming the dragon, gotten devoured, and that the dragon is now loose in Geb and rapidly approaching a heavily populated area on its snacking spree

(and the fact that the dragon has just made a Blood Lord position up for grabs could make for extra fun background intrigue where some parties want to make sure THEY are the ones to slay the umbral dragon in hopes of receiving the title. so the dragon may not even be the only threat the adventurers needs to watch out for and they may not be able to trust every offer of assistance they receive ;))

As someone who transitioning from D&D 5e (though I still consume much of its content and mostly lore from some of the sages there) I am glad I finally found someone who's lore content I enjoy for pathfinder. The real fun begins when I finally get to fuse the two for my own multiverse. Already working on the inner and outer planes which has been a fun transition.

This video just flew by, and the two dragon videos are easily the best of your creature features to date. Occult dragons sound like they'd be great to trade really strange stories and lore with. Is it possible to get dragons drunk enough to loosen their tongues, and how hazardous is a drunk dragon? Having now seen both dragon videos, I think my favorites are the outer dragons from the end of the 1st video. It's odd that a technically material plane creature would seem the most exotic, but I felt that grouping really stood out for creativity.

I clear them to pay for several bathtub's worth of high proof dwarven alcohol so my Occult Dragon buddy will slur out the embarrassing habits of planar Lords during our yearly bender. Once she started listing all the ways the universe could conceivably end in the next decade and it was the most entertaining existential crisis I've ever had. I make sure to leave before she sobers up though, because a grumpy dragon makes for dangerous company and it turns out even the Akashic Record doesn't list a reliable hangover cure.

A few people have noted this, but I think for the most part I will just need to do a video about the "lore updates" and let people convert the lore in whatever ways suit them. I think Paizo themselves will also not reproduce every single detail of the universe with the new lore either. Most old lore will stand so long as it doesn't conflict directly with the new lore.

@@TheMythkeeper When I wrote a novel centered around a dragon I still didn't have that many species and most weren't intelligent to human level or above. It was 254,000 words long, so I could never find a publisher for it.

Good editing is impossible to afford for any new writer unfortunately, which means essentially on that one you have no choice but to roll up your sleeves and do several edit passes yourself until your comfortable with it - and rely on the kindness of friends and family to read it and give you the kind of feedback you can't see yourself. Cover art is not as expensive as you think. If you shop around there are many artists that do commission based work that will be happy to help you there for a reasonable cost.

Fantastic video as always :) would you ever be interested in doing a video on magic and alchemy? I like the different schools of magic and how they work (especially with relation to rune magic) and alchemy is such a signature part of pathfinder to me but i don't actually know if there is an explanation on like how people liquify spells and such

I don't think the spells are 'liquified' per se, they are just magic potions that have similar effects to spells and from a game abstraction standpoint it makes sense to use a common set of abstractions. Ie: Potion of Invisibility isn't necessarily the exact same thing as a Spell of Invisibility in terms of the lore of the game world, but the mechanics are the same in terms of the rules. Honestly this is kind of why I've avoided this topic so far. Things like the schools of magic, and the intricacies of alchemy can overlap with mechanical discussions. As we'll see from Remaster, the schools of magic as they currently exist are probably going to change in the near future, so I'm going to sidestep stuff that requires me to discuss game rules. But never, say never, I may get to this topic in the future, we'll see!

I really wish Pathfinder had a race similar to the Dragonborn from the Dungeons and Dragons Forgotten Realms setting. You could have an Astral Dragonborn or a Magma Dragonborn. Lots of awesome possibilities.

I think the only reason they don't is that the dragonborn are now very iconic D&D creatures and they want to differentiate the brand slightly. That being said, we know dragons can easily cross-pollinate with humanoids because they are magical creatures so half-dragons or dragonborns are a really easy ancestry to homebrew for your own setting, and it doesn't break the world any if you do.

May I suggest a couple of subjects for your "possible videos to do in the future" list? - An overview of the situation of Golarion from 4719 AR onward (i.e. when 2nd Edition was released) and the events that lead to such situation (like how Lastwall fell and turned into the Gravelands). - A series of biographies of prominent figures in Golarion, particualarly the iconic characters (Ezren, Kyra, Valeros, Amiri and so on). Thank you for your works, very well done and filled with informations.

I've had the 2nd Edition lore updates primer video request a few times now, so I probably will do that at some point. As for the prominent figures, right now I am basically doing Creature Features, Region Deepdives, Religion Guides as my primary videos and I have a lot to get through, and in the near future I will add Faction Guides to that list as well. I think as I wrap up my Region guides I will look at potentially doing significant character guides as well, but no plans in the near term for that.

I´ve been expecting this. I find the elemental and planar dragons to be a lot more interesting than the material plane ones. I know I´m on the minority here, but Im glad they´re getting rid of the original red, gold, silver, green, etc dragons. My only question is what they´re gonna do with the named dragons that already exist, such as Daralathxyl or Mengkare. I´d wager they´re probably getting converted into an infernal and heavenly dragon respectively.

I doubt Mengkare is going to be featured in many upcoming products - he's heavily involved in one of the 2e adventure paths to a level where I'm not sure if they want to confirm his fate.

I don't think they will reprint old books with lore updates to make them fit with retconned lore, BUT I do think there is a possibility we get some kind of general lore conversion. Ie: Gold Dragons are now "Sacred Arcane Dragons" and Black Dragon are now "Profane Occult Dragons" etc...

Jabberwocky are formed by any Fey lord due to them being a member of the tane. Linnorms are the spawn of the linnorm lord who rules the ocean of the fey realm.

I’m disappointed, because I was really hoping this week’s video would be the Azata one. But I can’t really complain because More Dragons! I kind of want to criticize Pathfinder for having just so many dragons (after a certain point I have to wonder how many of each type there are), but they kind of get around that with extra-planar and extraterrestrial Dragons. Also, they’re all just so good that I can’t complain. I’m a little annoyed couatls aren’t Dragonkin given how similar they are to amphiteres, but whatever, bit of my beloved winged-snake-dragons are in Pathfinder. Thank you for another list of wonderful creatures to use in campaigns and homebrew!

@@JamesAdams-nd1td - I think this may be a rare case of parallel design rather than copying. Paizo developed the 'elemental dragons' around the same time gem dragons entered D&D, and I think associating earth with crystals was just an obvious association. Of course, I could be wrong. They share a lot of the same writers and designers after all.

@@TheMythkeeper Gem Dragons are actually pretty old; they just never got the love that the Chromatics and Metallics did. They've been around since at least 2nd Edition DnD and were also in the Basic DnD setting of Mystara. Though on Mystara they were called Gemstone Dragons and had different "colors" than the 2E ones, at least according to Mr. Welch's Welcome to Mystara channel. I'd guess the Paizo people thought they'd be redundant or confusing with Earth-aligned Primal Dragons, so they condensed. I guess it's kind of like how Pathfinder doesn't include the Dragonborn race. I joked earlier, but the designers of Pathfinder didn't just copy and paste everything from the Forgotten Realms into Golarion. They did make their own creative decisions. Usually for the better.

@@TheMythkeeper i think the series format is both more consumable for people and gives more freedom to be a bit more comprehensive, but regardless your channel your rules. great videos as per usual, i busted out my copy of dragons unleashed and im now adding the physical locations of the dragons (with age, type and name) to my big 4 poster wall map of the inner sea as inspired by that VERY useful map you made with all the dragon heads. unfortunately my copy is using sticky notes for now... but im looking at colored acrylic or 3d printed ones after im done! did you know that a ancient dragon is literally no distance from all spots? 420 miles is 10 minutes at full speed (in 2nd edition, everything got a speed bump in 2nd) so the 6 and a bit required to go from the top of the inner sea to the bottom is an hour. i do NOT wanna be an hour away from a UMBRAL DRAGON AT ALL TIMES
