Cool puzzle. Couple thoughts: since there doesn't seem to be any clue that hints at it being an "Opposite" mirror (other than the written password sounding odd) I think the little girl could at least say, "...you must TELL me the password." instead of, "...you must READ me the password." because "read" heavily implies that they are to just read the words as they are written. Unless of course you really WANT them to fall in the trap lol, then "read" is probably the better word. Secondly, I like the idea of it being the little girl's room - and in the chest could be items a little girl would own: a hairbrush, a hand mirror, a necklace, ballet shoes and a diary (with only 1 entry). Of course everything except the mirror and diary entry are pointless little distractions. Great video!

I like the diary idea, that one entry could mention something about being excited to play jokes on someone by pretending it's "opposite day" or something of the like as another hint

This is great! I think for an added hint if the players inspects the mirror they can find an engraving on it that read "TO NYM" and if they ask the girl her name she can say its Anne.

OMG... you had me stumped for at least 15 minutes... Finally... figure it out, lol. This is a good one! Anne TO NYM. I am using this! Thanks for the clever idea!

Ah yes, the girl's name "Anne" combined with the engraving in the mirror "TO NYM" can be pronounced ANNE TO NYM or "antonym", meaning the opposite of a word. I dig it! :)

Love this. Another cool way to use this would be to have a letter that the girl never got to finish that that says: To: Nym From: Anne

amazing puzzle, made a few adjustments for my campaign meant for 2 players. I created a language and the chest will have 2 scrolls 1) will be a translation scroll and 2) the password in that language. when translated it will read "It's not safe to stay together" and a door on the east and west will both open. if they each split up they will both have a monster waiting for them (a weak one) and a doorway that will lead them back into the room. if they read the opposite "It is dangerous to go alone" (Huge Zelda fan) A hidden pathway will open.

Brilliant idea, I like it! It would be really cool to have the Zelda chimes play when the hidden pathway opens. Zelda is one of my first inspirations for dungeon and puzzle creation in D&D. Love that game! :) Thank you for the comment, much appreciated. Have fun running your adventures!

Meow used the tried and true ---Always Coming From Take Me Down---- and had the words jumbled and they had to put them in the right order. The clue Meow gave them was that the words are always wrong. They got it right without figuring out what the puzzle meant. After they got out of the room I told them that the words were opposite. It was great.

I was considering working the dangerous version of this trap into an upcoming game, but I think I may have to go with the funny version for my group. Again, thank you!

The Red Queen is an allusion to Through the Looking Glass, the sequel to Alice in Wonderland. You might as well go all the way with it.

The Red Queen Wally is using is not from Alice. It is from the first Resident Evil, live-action movie.

That is very cool. As you were playing I thought "Hey wrong door...i think". Nicely done. Thank you Hmm i wonder if the creepy girl reads it. Maybe she comes out oppositely. She turns from a creepy girl to a super annoying LG Paladin. Haha.

I used this and the alt mirror in the last dungeon and ti went well, they did not get it right away and honestly I helped them out a little I told the dumbest character there( 6int downside of his ridicules strength) it was an opposite mirror and he role played it soooo well, he took the paper stood in front of the mirror and just repeated it out loud 3-4 times, then it clicked with a player. looking back on it I wish I had done it a little differently.

Haha, sounds like another fun time! You had mentioned the players had a few "easier" puzzles they figured out right away, so good to see them challenged on this one. Never any harm in helping them out or giving out hints, I do it all the time :)

I love the printouts for the bed, chest and doors. Where did you get them? Thanks.
@WallyDM
@WallyDM 8 жыл бұрын
The printouts I am using were included in an AD&D 2nd edition supplement called "Cardmaster - Adventure Design Deck". I bought it in the 90s. It has some cutouts, like the coffins and doors I use in my videos, plus a couple of card decks for creating random, improv games. I'll see if I can gather the pieces and do a video in the near future! Thank you for the comment, hope you liked the video! :)

Wally D.M. Well that is what the I love part implies sir ;) its sneaky though. I prolly wouldnt kill em but I would punish em for not thinking, something nasty down in the pit and then of course getting out of it.

Wally D.M. Personally I have never been a fan of instant death stuff. Takes the fun out of the game and can leave people mad. But actions SHOULD have consequences that make sense.
@WallyDM
@WallyDM 8 жыл бұрын
Terminally Nerdy . not a fan of instant death either... or character death for that matter... but i do like to challenge the players. probably shoulda clarified that in the video better.

Thank you for the comment! I pasted this information on one of your other questions, but we'll put it here to. Thank you for watching! The doors and dungeon items were from AD&D 2nd Edition Cardmaster Adventure Design Deck. I did a video review of them if you want to take a look: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aaaxlYVjYppmeas AND... I did a quick search and found a PDF! Here ya go... dnd.rem.uz/Advanced%20D%26D%20%28unsorted%29/Cardmaster%20Adventure%20Design%20Deck.pdf
