While I definitely like the full length tutorials, I can see these condensed versions as a great way to get a quick remind/refresh on the concept. I have had to go back several times periodically to watch the video on Stealth to reference after a certain 'situation' came up in a game just to make sure I still had it correct. Awesome, keep the hits coming!

Glad to hear it! I like the full-length videos too, but (by far) the biggest piece of feedback I've received about them is they can be too long. So hopefully this new series will help those who don't want/need all of the info given in the main series.

Basics4Gamers That surprises me. I’ve never felt they were too long. But I do see a place for the condensed versions. If you have time to produce both then better for all of us!

This is helpful, especially your little summaries that you add to as you speak. I'm gonna take screen caps and laminate a collection of them to keep behind my GM screen

This is great. Please do the Basics of Alchemy. A 3 minute video could go a long way.

Every month my Patreon community votes for what topics I cover, and I've made a note to include Alchemy on the next one. Thanks for the suggestion!

These are all super helpful and the only ones of their kind as far as I can tell. As a new GM I really appreciate it.

What is the range for imprecise hearing? When do two creatures who aren't avoiding notice gain awareness of each other? Is it dependant on Perception bonus? Let's say a Blinded creature with +1 perception strides in the direction of a Blinded creature with +0 perception, neither is Avoiding Notice and both start off far enough from eachother that they are both are Unnoticed. Do both become Hidden to one another at the same time? Or does the one with higher perception notice the other first? Or do they roll against the others Stealth DC even though they aren't Avoiding Notice, if so, when do they roll? If they're in vast, straight, soundproof corridor? If they're in a noisy jungle? If they're in a maze? If they're separated by wooden doors? If they're under still water? Under rushing water? I find it hard to decide if and when the party or the monster notice the other first if no one is aware the other is coming up or if they should always be on common ground in that respect, and how the environment should effect at what range they can notice with hearing.

With sight it's easy: if there is line of effect and you have the prerequisite vision for the environment you observe the creature. So sight is infinite with line of effect. We know that hearing isn't infinite, that would be silly, because it can 'move around' objects just like Scents which only has a 30 feet range. I reckon hearing should also have range stated for all creatures with rules stating what environments would decrease or increase normal effective hearing range. It makes sense to me that some creatures have extremely better hearing that normal humans or other PCs or creatures. In what cases, barring complete Deafness, would you deem Scent (30 feet) as more effective than hearing? How noisy does an environment have to be for you to sooner smell an out of sight creature than hear it?

So is Perception always secret?
@HowItsPlayed4 жыл бұрын
Usually, yes. For things like the Seek action to spot something hidden or for Sense Motive (which I'm going to cover in a video on social encounters), the Perception check is made in secret. But can't really say "always" -- for example, Perception checks rolled for Initiative are not made in secret.
