Pathfinder Pack Stove Review: This is a full review of unpacking and using the Pathfinder Pack Stove. But put your seatbelts on.. unfortunately, the stove design has a number of pitfalls to it. The burner itself is the best part of the whole package. No product stats here. That stuff can be found on the Pathfinder website.

I have purchased many of Daves products in the past. In my experience, his products come to market before being tested properly. After the fact they tend to make adjustments and redesign the products. In my experience, they do stand behind their products. Give them a call/email. In general, any item made in China that has moving parts or electrical components go through zero quality control aspects. You do get what you pay for.

I should note that I have been using it fairly regular now and it has since patina’ed up a bit, it does not pop apart that easily anymore. In fact, I had a tough time pulling it apart to try and straighten out one of the arms a little more. Even a tougher time putting it back together. I install the gas tube first, then the burner.. and only spin it just until it stops. That’s it. Do not tighten down, and after cooling it disassembles nicely. I have read many similar complaints on this basic same version (different brands) that folks can’t spin off the burner after use (prob because they instinctively muscle it down). My video obviously delivers on first experience frustration, however has actually turned out to be a decent burner. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Scroll down. One commenter notes the original from which it taken from.. however it lacks the fold out arms, which to me are a benefit. It’s a toss up 🤷🏻‍♂️ Best of luck and thanks

Wow... thank you for your review of the Pathfinder Pack Stove. I was interested in getting one, and now I am not so sure. There seems to be some design issues (not liking the weld job on the supports), and the quality seems to be lacking. When you head out with a portable stove - it needs to be safe, stable, and effective. Even attempting to make adjustments on the supports looks like it could break easily. I think I'll stick to paying more for a reliable stove setup that is safer and more dependable. Good luck with testing it in further videos... it'll be interesting to see how it performs outdoors in different weather conditions. Best regards. 🇺🇸 🏕

Thanks for the feedback. I was afraid the review may have been a little over the top with my ranting... lol I am further testing it as being kitted with the Trangia mini set. Getting ready to upload a quick video on it. But I do make quick mention of "issues", and plan to provide a link back to this video. Bottom line: Pros: * Cost * Large powerful burner *Fits into the two kits shown I really do love the burner size Cons: * That plate almost popped off on me yet again! * The center loaded spring actually creates an unstable rocking (NOT the rocking from the arms which I fixed), but if you watch closely when I put the Stanley cup on, the WHOLE things rocks! The pan support is spring loaded and unstable. It is a piss-poor design. * The valve stem will get stuck to the burner as shown (had to use a small screwdriver shaft to break it free). BUT... I have since experimented with it: Spinning the burner on, do NOT "snug" it, just spin until it stops. DONE. Gas doesn't not seem to leak. The next few times doing this, it broke free from the burner without issue. No user instructions - which isn't really a con, as it is self-explanatory. BUT... no mention of how tight the stem should be.

I luckily got a properly welded one on discount for $5 from China delivered to door in Australia. That's where Dave's came from.

I thought Dave would have a little better quality control on product's he endorses. I do have some of his products.

As a couple of comments noted, it appears not so much. Although one comment notes he usually goes back to his products and fixes any issues overtime. Which to me is kind of silly, why don’t you get the major bugs out first before you market (???) 🙄

Try a primus classic trail stove. That is what all this cheap stoves are copying. If its too big the primus essential trail stove is a excellent option as well. I personally use the Soto Windmaster. Great video!

Really interesting real life experience vid, too many other YTs get promos to act schtum and talk up their freebees . As to the offending product itself , well these clearly are being assembled by hand at break neck speed in a Chinese sweat shop that pays 50cent for each one that speeds off their production line .QC being a random process that pays even less , resulting in a total lack of pride or incentive to care about the finished product or even less the users experience , as you have found out. Paradoxically You and others may be interested to know the Pathfinder BRS300T knock off is actually an improvement of the original by virtue of the quality control , I have both so can testify a much better experience albeit at a higher cost .

Sorry. I’m just seeing your comment now. I’m new with this whole KZbin thing, I have to get used to this platform. I don’t understand why I don’t receive alerts for ALL comments as they’re posted! 🤔😑 Thanks for the comment. Yeah I’m not here to blow steam up anybody’s back. If a product is good, I’ll promote my experience. If it’s less than stellar, I’ll promote my experience 🤷🏻‍♂️ I prefer to let others make their own judgment call based upon what they see! Peace!

I’ve been up in Dave’s stuff since he first started his website several years ago….majority of his products, whomever he gets them from before putting his logo on them….are complete junk!! All of them! He is a company directed to newbies who don’t know any better and are sold by his tv stardom…nothing more! He were of time company!

Interesting comment, for as a “newbie” myself, I kind of resemble that remark! 😆 😂 Personally I’m not seeking to dump on him. But the “low quality” thing in life is unfortunately one of my life long rants. My own 60 years has taught me: I don’t care if you buy brand-name today… just about everybody is building junk. I’m going through this with Trangia cookware. How much worse when we’re at the lower end of cost base, definitely should not expect much 🤷🏻‍♂️. Thanks for chiming in 👍

Nope, I am not going to purchase it. Instead, from Walmart $14.97, I purchased the Ozark Trails 4 in 1 stove, it appears considerably better. Also for their price it comes with a bag, burner, cannister folding stand, and a propane bottle adaptor as well, thus it can burn Butane, isobutane, and Propane. Price a propane adaptor alone, they sell for $10.00-ish, being as this Ozark Trails includes a propane bottle adaptor makes this Ozark Trails 4 in 1 an outstanding purchase. In your upcoming videos mount your camera. A bouncy, moving camera quickly becomes extremely annoying and spatially disorientating. As the camera moves about where are viewers to focus on the screen?

Sorry again, I don’t understand why I don’t see these comments alerting me when they post. I got to find out why KZbin is screwing me over here. So sorry for the late response! Yes, that Ozark trails stove was the very first one I bought. What I don’t like about that one is that the surface is really uneven. I’ve pulled that thing apart. Several times to try and get it flat, it just doesn’t fly for me. So I use the bag for something else because it’s handy, And the little base comes in handy all the time. Thanks for the comment about the camera, I am using a tripod, but in some instances I need to pull it off. But you ARE correct! 😎

I have a Coleman Peak 1 which also works well with this. I specifically went for this because of the wide burner, and durability. Although I do really like the F1 lantern. Neither of them seem to be available anymore, although haven’t checked Flea-bay 🤔
