These deep dives are truly excellent. The density of information makes it engaging without being overwhelming, and the prose and narration make it highly enjoyable to listen to. I think you're one of the first Pathfinder youtubers (along with Tower of Tomes) to cross into making lore videos I want to watch because they're well told, rather than something I want to watch because of it's subject matter alone.

This seems like a really fun place to set a game. Just a wide selection of horror tropes to draw from and enough variety and bright periods in its lore that it doesn't seem completely bleak. That's a nice background to build an adventure from.

@@TheMythkeeper Thankee! I am looking forward to running a "classic horror" campaign! I am still reading through Harrowstone, in my research I have heard that the BBEG (Tar Baphon, I imagine) is not super present in the early chapters of the campaign other than appearing through his cult, the whispering way. And thus the story seems a little disjointed. I am scouring the paizo forums to see what clever things have been done to tighten the story up. If you have any insight or advice, I would be grateful to hear it!
@TheMythkeeper2 ай бұрын
@@Nekron999 So ultimately the Whispering Way want to bring back Tar Baphon, but the heroes thwart them. My suggestion to make the story more tight is to have Auren Vrood be the bad-guy throughout the whole campaign. Auren is the guy responsible for the events in Books 1 and 2, and he is confronted and killed by the players in Book 3. Then the villain becomes someone else after Book 4. Easy fix is, have Auren creepily welcome his own death (he's a necromancer) and have him come back as a lich in Book 5 (teasing him at end of Book 4). Make him the BBEG they face in Virlych at the very end of Book 6. Makes for a better narrative overall.

As someone who is currently finishing up the Carrion Crown AP, this deep dive was both enlightening and like a fun trip down memory lane! My party and I really bought into the AP during the Beast of Lepidstadt arc (I think during book 2, unsure as I'm not the GM) and dubbed the lovable monstrosity Bartholomew. When we eventually got to meet Caromarc, we berated him for not giving the Beast a name before allowing him out into the world and for just generally not setting a good example for our Bartholomew. We didn't want the lad to be as bleak and depressing as his creator lmao
@TheMythkeeper Жыл бұрын
That's funny, my players had the exact same experience playing Carrion Crown. The 1st AP was fun, but it was right around the trial of the beast that game really clicked for us and everybody kind of locked into their characters. Carrion Crown remains one of the favorite pathfinder APs.

My group and I began a new campaign a weeks ago of Pathfinder 2nd edition, the area were the story happening is the creation of the DM, but is heavily influence by Pathfinder Ustalav, so I find this video very interesting even if the lore may not be 100% respected at my DM table. It open a sort of windows into these the people of this land and my character was born in that region and raise in a village beyond the border but after some involving some accident connected to my Vampiric heritage (My character is a Dhampir) my character fled to the frontier and now she is essentially in Ustalav. I introduced a youtube membership club a few weeks ago - $4.99/month for early access to the videos. You can click the "Join" button on the channel to join that. Otherwise you have to wait for it to hit the public channel (~4 weeks, as they get videos 4 weeks early). I don't know why KZbin shares the members-only videos TBH, I kind of wish they wouldn't as it ruins the surprise of what's coming. But yes, Geb is about 4 weeks out now, or you can join and watch now!

Sorry that my only two comments so far are pronunciation notes. Demesne is a French term borrowed by English and is a bit odd. The proper pronunciation is apparently similar to domain. Di-mayn with the i being like in bit. It refers to the lord's directly controlled lands as opposed to the lands he has granted to his subject lords.

I feel really bad for the players that went through the Carrie and Crown adventure path just to see everything their characters did be undone in the second edition of the game. That would have really bummed me out. I played through the first two books of Carrie and Crown and they were amazing. That second book is one of the best pre-written adventures I've ever ran. The third book wasn't all that interesting to me into the campaign kind of died, but now since they totally made the carrying crown adventure meaningless in second edition I'm glad we didn't finish
@TheMythkeeper7 ай бұрын
Few thoughts on this that I have. Carrion Crown really was an amazing AP, and a strong recommend from me on all fronts. That said, as for feeling it didn't matter... I disagree. First, I'm not sure that the Tyrant's return means that Carrion Crown doesn't matter. That's like saying the first X-Men movies doesn't matter because Magneto is back again in X2. Beating the Tyrant the first time still matters. Second, the choice to bring back the Tyrant happened in 1E not 2E, in the Tyrant's Grasp AP. Finally, its actually really fun to play Carrion Crown and then Tyrant's Grasp as part of a connected series of adventures. In our game group, our epic Carrion Crown characters turned up to fight against the Whispering Tyrant in Tyrant's Grasp and that made the whole experience really amazing.
