Talking about my experiences with the Lord of Nothing DLC right as it launches. Owlcat Games provided me early access to said DLC. This one brings a stand alone module as well effects on the main campaign, on top of 15 new archetypes.

i actually like the concept of the side stories, playing a different protag that can affect the main story is interesting conceptually but its far too limited in the owlcat dlc too linear and little to variation of effects and limited consequences on the main campaign so much so that when you have played it once you never feel like going back to it

I don’t really mind it in WoTR. After a couple of play throughs the mythic abilities have gotten pretty stale for me. They are so overpowered that by the end of chapter 3 you can easily steam roll the rest of the game no matter the difficulty. Having content without them is a breath of fresh air

i bought it before BG3 but didnt give it a chance - after I beat BG3 i gave it an honest go and its absolutely one of the biggest rpg games ive played and VERY addicting. What makes it stand apart from BG3 is the sheer number of classes andskills you can mix and match. Crusade system could have been implemented better but hey, you can manage armies which is a nice touch in itself. Honestly having as much fun with this game as i did with BG3

I need to revisit WotR. I have a habit of finding a great RPG that I love, spending a few hundred hours playing it obsessively, and then getting burnt out near the end of the game and never actually finishing the game. That’s what happened with WotR when it first came out, and that is what has been happening lately with BG3. In any case, I will definitely go back to finish WotR, and I’ll play the DLCs, as well (hopefully).

@@fallometr This is not correct and has been refuted multiple times by Owlcat on the subreddit. The correct answer is that Owlcat is currently focused on Rogue Trader and has not announced a new Pathfinder game, but they have said repeatedly that they would love to - which strikes me as a very corporate "we don't want to announce anything until we have something ready to announce" way of saying it, especially considering the amount of work they continue to do on Wrath with this giant patch.

How do you get more than four people on your team? I just played through it with Rekarth, Sendri, Penta, and a Blood Kineticist MC. The blood blasts were cool (and oneshot the nalfeeshnee) and my lack of any melee character was somewhat mitigated with the Slick wild talent. That said, none of the shard powers are useful for a kineticist, so I couldn't spam blood blasts.

Or that a merchant looted their corpses and sells the DLC items, like Varnhold's Lot. That Falchion, every time you crit, you get another attack, please move that over to the base game.

Story-wise, Through the Ashes should come first, but it offers a different kind of experience from the main game, so I wouldn't recommend starting with it. The ideal route would be to start the main game, beat the prologue, play a bit of chapter 1 and learn the mechanics, then switch to Through the Ashes and beat it. Then you have all the way until Act 5 to beat Lord of Nothing.

This looks good. I put 200ish hours in with the base game and 1 or 2 of the first DLC… I’ve been thinking of returning for another play through, and I feel a bit overwhelmed. I wonder if there is a good roadmap of an best order to play through the base game and all of the DLC since some are standalone, but unlock things in the main campaign. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

prologue of the main game > through the ashes > Chapter 1-4 of main game > Lord of Nothing > Rest of main game > everything else, from my understanding you can do inevitable excess before chapter 2 of the main game to get a few extra OP items, but I really don't think that's worth it outside of unfair runs TBH, mainly because inevitable excess is better after multiple main game runs with different mythic paths that being said midnight isles is great for testing builds in general, so if you don't wanna fuck up a build for the main game, test it there first, since runs usually aren't very long
@Sabamonster
@Sabamonster 8 ай бұрын
As someone who has beaten this game at least a dozen times (1200+ hours), one of which was a Last Azlanti and Unfair - true ascendancy ending run, I personally recommend just playing through the Ashes/Lord of Nothing storyline through it's entirety and then going back and doing the main campaign. As Proton said, you can run Inevitable excess before chapter if you want the items but if not It's probably best to to play it after beating the main game. Midnight Isles, I would personally do while you're playing the main campaign as well. Just makes it easier and you're still getting all the content in the order that it happens chronologically. Or at least in a way that keeps continuity. Well worth the return for another run either way though man - greatest thing about this game is the shear amount of replayability it has due to various different builds, paths, endings, mythic choices, etc, and this is coming from someone who typically doesn't replay games once he's done with them.
@shinon748
@shinon748 7 ай бұрын
So play this just before chapter 5? Prologue -> Through the Ashes -> Chapter 1-4 -> Lord of Nothing -> Chapter 5 - Just before Last boss -> Inevitable Excess -> Final Boss. With Midnight Isles at Chapter 3,4,5 as each part opens up for a full chronological play through.

How does that fit into the main campaign? I will probably only play this game once. How will I get the most out it? And can you START woth from the ashes. Finish that. Play the main campaign. First play Prologue of main campaign, then complete Through the Ashes DLC, next continue main campaign till the end of act 4 then stop, start Lord Of Nothing DLC and after finishing it you can continue main story till the end. At least devs said its optimal way. Midnight Isles content can be encountered in several acts of main campaign, basically it's just repetitive clearing dungeons from enemies with a minimum of story, you can skip it or play as standalone game mode.

A bit off topic, but as you are a big fan/player of CRPGs and TRPGs, have you ever played the free browser game Caravaneer 2? For what it is (an ultra-indie, free web game) I was amazed at the game and loved it so much. The big downside I had with it was the tedious late game combat when you have really big fights of many enemies (and likely many characters to control as well). A hard issue to fix though, and some people might like the large scale combat, which is certainly rare to ever see in turn-based tactical combat games (probably for good reason though, since it is a downside for me)

A darn shame this one isn't really tied to the main story either, was hoping for a dlc that could be played in it's entirety by the character from the basegame.

I found through the ashes very nice because it was different to the main campaign, ditching some of the epic overtones and the superhero vibes of the main story (i found refreshing to play as a bunch of "normies"). I also liked the survival element, and the environmental interactions involving the npcs you saved. I was hoping for something similar with this one, instead i had like a cheap version of the mythic powers, no environmental interactions, no npcs mechanics, and no meaningful final boss fight. the story was a bit meh, and the angel of serenrae a bit useless. I liked penta though, she is very cool. And the new archetypes.

Maaaaaaannnn.... after playing a lot of BG3 and P:WotR at the same time interval, I kinda got to understand the reason behing some changes made on the D&D system, with it's 5th edition. The skill/spell "bloating effect", at the final levels of the characters progression, in the "older systems", becomes freaking ridiculous. Several skills/spells that are the same thing from the low level ones, but with more damage and/or additional effects. Seriously, once you reach end game, managing the action bar in these "old system" games becomes quite a hassle. Indeed, I found it a much better idea, from a gameplay perspective, instead of giving my character a new, stronger, version of an old skill/spell, make the old one become stronger as my character level progresses. I also found quite reasonable the "nerfing" done in the 5th edition on the number of possible active buffs on a character. In the "older systems", that number was ridiculous. In the case of the game P:WotR, you could even make your character portrait disappear because of the amount of buff icons showing at the same time. Also, the time spent casting all these buffs was quite long, which made de process super boring. Some times you would spend more time buffing your party than fighting the enemy... hahaha... But, to be honest, I also found exaggerated the limitation imposed by the 5th edition. I would like see a more "not so much, neither so little" approach. A system that added new effects to the existing spell buffs, as the character's level progresses, would be the ideal IMO. The spell buff that, at level 1, gives one type of buff, at level 1+X starts to give two types of buff, and at level 1+X+X, three types. Of course, all logically related the original spell effect. One simple example: the spell magical armor, while at lower levels it would only increase the AC value of the armor, but at higher levels it could also, on top of giving more AC, reduce the armor check penalty value or give some damage reduction/immunity effect.

@@SirCanuckelhead Because they added a bunch of archetypes with the DLC that you can't use in the DLC because they don't get their central gimmick until 12+. And because they already made Beneath the Stolen Lands, and The Midnight Isles, which are both 1-20. And having a non mythic campaign to go along with a mythic campaign to see how different they are would be nice. You forget that demons are supposed to be unstoppable killing machines when you can't ignore their damage resistance/immunities, and you can fight 3 turns after you are killed

I really wish Owlcat would do a PF2 game instead of these stand alone DLCs on an old game engine. I know it's unpopular opinion. Everyone loves their super high numbers in PF1, but I'm one of the few who love PF2. I played PF1 since it came out and will always choose it over D&D, and I've got over 400 hours in each of the PF1 CRPGS. Not knocking PF1 at all. I've had great fun with it. It's just that after more than a decade of the gameplay loop of "only choose options that lead to highest numbers," I'm now greatly enjoying the "horizontal progression" of PF2. The numbers may be low, but there's so many more things characters can do and so many more tactical choices. Would love to see it given the WotR or BG3 treatment.

The base game is already incredibly long by itself. They should have just formed all the DLC into another entire game. It's probably too intertwined

I actually have the reverse problem lmao. I played Pathfinder Kingmaker first, then WotR. After the brutal trial of Kingmaker's learning curve, BG3 feels like a baby's first CRPG for me. Doesn't help that the story is mid and my god did they drop the ball on evil playthroughs and the endings. The thing that saved BG3 for me is the gameplay and immersion.
